imo, at the end of the day storage capacity is still king.
besides, it PAYS (read: freakin' burns your pockets) to be an early tech-adopter ...
but on the subject of the M2, there ought to be a MemoryStick adapter as well, no?
my old cybershot's still serving me well ... |

there is an adapter for M2 cards to be read in MS devices, but not other way around.

Sony plans to ship the 256MB and 512MB versions of the 'M2' media from March, and the 1GB model from May 2006.The estimated end user price of the 'M2' media will be similar to the price of the current 'Memory Stick PRO Duo.

if that's correct then it's a bonus. I'm a bit sceptical though due to the price of transflash cards which M2 will be competing against.

When i first noticed these cards i was quite frankly pissed off!
There are soo many things which are either out or being released soon which will make having a produo card irresistible. PSP's, digital cameras, phones, ps3 or so i hear.
Unless sony really make good use of these cards, everything is having to start again. Once their up to the 2gb limit, are they going to release even smaller cards, that are once again revolutionising?
I guess i'll be for them IF they use this compactness to an advantage. We as a user do not gain anything from having this reduction in format, but the manufacturers who build gadgets do. If it is 1/4 of the size of a normal MSduo card, why dont they make 2 if not 3 M2 holders in such items like phones, digital cameras.
That indeed would be revolutionising, not creating a new product in which will take 5 years creating things based around it.
Price will become an issue and what will happen to these newly anounced 4/8gb cards? Will the produo's continue?
The best thing I've heard about these darn cards so far is that there is an adapter to convert them too produo.
But is that officialy confirmed? It would make sence as the pro duo cards have adapters to make them just duo.
I don't know about these cards... just when i was ready to dish out anything for an 8gb card these little toys arrive. It will be far from now until they have high capacities so i wonder what card the next w phone will come standard with?

duo is the size of the card. So for example "Memory Stick" is the original size card, "Memory Stick Duo" is the smaller newer card. Both "Memory Stick" and "Memory Stick Duo" come in either normal or PRO configuration.
The Limit of non-pro memory sticks is 128MB. The limit of Pro sticks (both standard and duo sizes) is 32GB.
The limit of M2, which uses the same architecture as Pro cards, is 32GB. There will be no non-pro version of the M2 card, although there will be 64 and 128Mb M2 cards.
The M2 comes with an adapter that allows it to be read in standard size memory stick holders. However, from what I've heard, there is no M2 to duo adapter.

The K610 will come with 64MB card but that is not a walkman phone. The next walkman phone is rumoured to have 4gb internal so wont need external memory. It is also rumoured that the next walkman phone will be announced today. |

such goes the march of technology....
It's unfortunate but necessary. But I think a 64MB card in this day in age is just rude - it should be atleat minimum 128MB in my view.
