Security.app is used for Inactivity Lock, Which locks and ask's for security code after your phone is idle for some time.
It can be activated/deactivated from Control Panel -> Security -> Locks.
If the phone is locked and this app is killed your phone will behave like keys are locked and won’t respond or display any message to any key pressed (not even power switch). Only option is to remove battery.

I called SE support center. I asked about the release and they said that the do not have any information about that. Their statement was that there are no problems with P990! |

I have all locks off... why then does this service still run? I'd expect it to be listed in the tasks only if one of those locks is active.

F***ERS! They are in denial!!
Gah... we all need to call and complain about the memory-leaks, the closing down of programs, and the whole phone, and so on. Seems like they need a overload-breakdown in the support-lines before they get it!

I totally agree. To declare the customer as stupid by denying faults on the phone is not a way to go! |

SE in India also seems to be in denial.
I have been pestering them and shown them various instances when the phone hangs up or acts funny (if the keys are locked and vibrate is on and one gets an incoming phone often the phone will vibrate but wont allow you to pick up the call unless you unlock the phone first) but they claim there is no new release of the firmware expected. |

@virgo79
Thanks for the info. That means I can freely kill it since my inactivity lock is off.
It seams that SE miss internal communication. It sounds so stupid, not to say idiotic, when we hear different statements from various service centres specially when we know that there is a new fw and that some forum members (My-Symbian) actually have it although not as official release. |

The admission of a new firmware is an admission there is something wrong witht he current one. It's so surprise that the company line is everything is OK.... until they release an 'improved' firmware. The fact we know they're working on a revised FW is due to leaks and inside info.

Ok, I work in a development dept. We are working on new products and improving existing ones. We all know about this in this dept as do the guys in out technical dept. Our sales staff however do not as if they were to tell people new products etc were due it would generate many questions that we wouldn't have the full answers to. so we work hard on the new products and the product improvements and get them to the market ASAP. Our sales staff only hear about this when we deem they need to. I suspect SE is the same. |

@Tail: While it's not fun to wait (I got my P990i last friday, so I've waited quite a while), see it from the bright(er?) side, the longer it takes, the more the firmware gets tested.
I don't think wants to ruin their reputation more than they have done already...
