hi i've had my v800 for a week now...have read all the posts about flashing...it really annoys me that i cant have certain mp3 tones on my phone because of drm..(can someone explain what drm is....sorry but new to this)...i would love to flash my v800 but am scared i will cock it up...i cant afford another one...voda charge enough for calls on payg so they should at least let u down/upload what the hell u like. anyway what is drm?....and is there anyone in nottingham that flashes?........please answer in simple terms so i can understand..

DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. A fancy way of saying, "you have to buy your ringing tones from us" with us being the GSM operators. There is a SonyEricsson ring tone converter that will "package" your .mp3 into a DRM wrapper that will let the phone play any .mp3 ringing tone that you want. If you need it, PM me with an email address and I can send it to you.

As far as flashing the phone. Follow the instructions in this thread. It works. I did mine about a week ago and I will continue to love me newly flashed z800. It is worth it and you can not wreck the phone. I used Da Vinci and it worked perfectly. You could also PM Jonny and ask him what he did as well.

Cheers mate

I have tried unlocking (not debranding) my v800 using tms and a T28 service cable. It recgnises the phone and cable ok but I get an error when I try to unlock the phone. It is a CID36 phone and TMS say that they unlock CID36 phones ok. I have sent an email with the error logs to TMS and am waiting for a reply. Any ideas what could be wrong? Has anyone unlocked their CID36 V800?

@JC

I used Da Vinci and it worked like advertised. I do think that JonnyQ did the unlock and flash using TMS. Send him a PM.

Not sure about unlocking CID36, if you run Da Vinci's remote unlocker program it says it can unlock CID36 handsets but not CID Z800's.

Whether or not this works for CID36 V800 handsets before they are flashed to Z800, I don't know.

Your best bet is to email Da Vinci and ask them first.

TMS will now unlock CID36 phones if you use the latest version (1.67). I started doing the job for me but my computer crashed halfway through (just after my credits had been taken).

@JC

Did they give you the credit back? The are pretty good about this. I have never had a "locked" phone, so I could not advise you on this, but when I flashed my v800 --> z800, the flashing worked just fine and it installed some other applications that the Vodafone f/w did not have.

I used DaVinci not TMS to unlock my CID29 V800, not sure about CID36 though. If anyone manages to unlock a CID36 V800 post your results here.

DaVinci's says it can unlock CID36 but not CID36 Z800's, not sure about V800's before they are flashed to Z800.

I used Da Vinci and went from a v800 to z800. Mine was not locked(can you define this) but was Vodafone branded. Now no branding and I have WorldMate(unlocked). I am one happy camper. I must say, I think the black z800 looks nicer than the champagne color, but it is my opinion.
