Windows 7 is awesome! Definitely better than vista. Runs pretty smoothly on my bro's 7-year old PC (his previous one).

So what's the recomended amount of ram to run 7 basic or home what ever they call it, I just seen some nifty 14 inch notebooks in asda for 200 quid, only 1 gig of ram tho, it would be ideal to take to work if it runs well,

The wiki for windows 7 pretty much sucks really, doesn't say much about specs, I think we all no really 2 gig of ram will be better than 1, so i'm going to pick up the little notebook and just add more ram

It runs really well on my laptop and my specs are:
AMD Turion 64
1024MB ram
80GB Hard drive
ATI raedon xpress 200m graphics.
Full areo and everything.
Vista on the other hand crawled on my system. |

bought my pre order from comet.co.uk last night.... £49.99 not too bad in my opinion for an OS that works for once lol...
I've been running the RC Beta version on my Laptop and nettop and can honestly say this runs like a dream and i couldnt be happier (unless of course it was MAC OSx which is still a lot more reliable and quicker for certain tasks).
Anyone else grabbed a pre-order? |

I've just installed Windows 7 64-bit a couple of days ago and it works really well. All the bells and whistles of Vista and the speed of XP. It's one OS I won't mind buying off the shelf since my 2 months old HP Pavilion P6090D came pre-loaded with Vista Home Premium. The best part was I didn't even have to install any drivers manually. Windows 7 detected all my hardware correctly. Most of older software run fine on it.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. |

Pre-ordered home ultimate from PC world, plus 2% quidco for £44.99 delivered, seems very zippy so far.

windows 7 is quite good. Faster than vista, less cluttered UI, windows snap open, clean and lean. I like it a lot. I will buy it off the shelf but I still plan to wait three months just to see what issues arise.
btw, it runs quite well on 512MB ram even.

I agree with max wedge... I use windows 7 since new year (december/january)... Mainly pirated torrent versions which seem to work very good, even the beta ones. The win7 seems to be the best OS microsoft ever released. A real XP successor imho. Lot faster than Vista, more stable, better experience, better multimedia and etc...
P.S. Also program compatibilty rocks.

Here you go:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx
It'll make you sign up for Microsoft Live account if you haven't already got one before you can download and obtain a key.
Which one is best depends on whether your laptop has a 64bit processor. Just choose the 32bit version if you're not sure.
