hey guys. this isnt really p800 related but.... ive recieved quite a few .pif files lately, from unknown senders. im not particularly computer literate, but understand that a pif file could be a virus? anyway, the only place ive submitted my email address to is this forum. has anyone else been getting these?

.pif files from unknown senders - 99.999% chance that it's a virus. If you e-mail address is from a free service, or is posted openly on the net the probability of it found out by spammers is much greater then normal.
[EDIT]
If someone who has your e-mail address is infected, the virus will be sent to your address as well. Viruses can disguise their origin by using a fake source address, so it could actually be comming from someone you know.

@vr: you have just described 95% of the human race, so it's not all that surprising. and there are still a lot of people out there who don't fully understand computers.
@semi: update your AV software and do a full system scan. if that doesn't work you may need to wipe your HD.
there may also be other alternatives of which i am unaware, so ask your computer nut friends or the IT gurus at your place of work/study.

In case you do not have a virus scanner (nothing surprises me anymore ) you can get a good, free scanner here: http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php
Make sure you run it regularly and update it at least every two weeks!

I got infected by a virus - trojan! Tried deleting it from my PC but went vain. Is this a deadly/ (PC) threatening one? What if I just leave it there ... I update my files with Norton on a 'daily' basis. What I noticed here is that, I never got any of these viruses ever since I surfed the net (2000) - quite late huh?, and how come I just recently got it, when my registration with Norton is due by next week, was it planned? to have my registration renewed asap? Thanks! |
