There are many people out here, which seem to have big problems with synchronization of outlook and the T610.

There are many tips and hints about the configuration of the 'phonessetings.exe' and about assigning the right com port to the phone.

all these tips did NOT work for me.
my pc did not find any phone.

in my opinion, this can't be problem of the T610 phone software, and it can't be a problem of having a compatible bluetooth stick installed.

this seems to be some kind of security and access rights problem.

---------------------------------------------------
here is my solution:
> go to your 'network connections' panel on winxp.

> find the entry 'Bluetooth Network', which should be installed in section LAN

> right-click and edit go to 'advanced' tab

> activate 'allow other network users to connect through this computers´ internet connection'

> go to settings, and activate all of the services.

>> this will force your computer IP to 192.168.0.1

>> leave that! (this is the trick)

>> if you use a router, it whill normally have exactly that IP, so now your pc and your router have the same IP.

>> change the IP of your router to 192.168.0.2 (ore something else) but don't change the IP of your pc.
(and don't forget to change the IP settings for your pc on your router if you use some kind of IP or MAC address filtering, otherwise you will loose access to your router!)

> open your bluetooth advanced configuration,
find the 'Local Services' tab.

> double click on 'Network access'

> in the dropdown list activate
'allow other devices to create a private network with this computer'

> i'm not sure about this point, but maybe you need to restart your system here.

---
now, let's test it.

> activate the 'Serial Port 1' connection to T610 on your BlueTooth device

> now, find 'Dial-Up Networking Wizard' or 'phonesettings.exe' in the SonyErricson folder (or on your desktop) and doublick it

>> make sure, you have set up the correct com port
if you don't know, how to do this, browse this forum, there are many howto's:
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=38877&forum=18

> now, your pc should find your phone. (well, mine does!)

try to sync your phone
and ...
... enjoy.

and, i'd like to know, how it works.

yes, me again, replying to myself, ....

my t610 and my PIM have been running and synchronizing now for about 2 months.

some days ago, it stopped working.
well, i really don't know why (and i didn't change anything on th network connection setup, i swear).

so, i came back here to look at my own post, just to check, if my cofig tip here is correct.

well, it is correct so far, but not complete.
again it took several days to find the configuration trick.

to start,
my system is WinXP SP1 with t610 connected via Bluetooth (Sitecom USB Dongle CN-500),
BT Software is original sitecom (newest version from their website), sync with XTNDCon.

ok, first thing is to install all that bluetooth software.
in my opinion there is no need to find a special version of
BT driver, the one delivered with your usb adaptor should be fine.

afterwards install the SE software, important is to install the Phone Monitor.
I tried the newest SE Com suite v1.5.9.2 for z600, but that one dd not work, so i choose the one delivered with the phone. that one works fine.

now, follow the guide for setting the right com port in the phone settings. (see post on top)

run the phonemonitor.exe to see, if it finds your phone.
without phonemonitor, there will be no syncing.

if it doesn't, you have to set up your network settings as i mentioned above (allow the bluetooth network to create a VPN with your computer).

to test that, take your t610, go to 'my pictures', select an image and send it to your computer via bluetooth.

hopefully, your pc will make a notify sound that there is a BT connection and the BT icon in the tray will turn to green.

at this point, my fone tried to send the image but the connection was not established.

first, go tho the main menu screen (joystick down) and pick the icon in the lower left corner.
go to blutooth > 'my devices' and pick your computer.
(if it is not visible, initiate pairing via BT advanced config)

pick 'services'.
there should be a point called 'file transfer' or something like that in the service list.(my phone is in german, so i don't know the correct entry).
if this point is missing, click the refresh button.

now,go back to your images and send an image again.

if you hear your pc making the notify sound or see the BT icon turning green, click the BT icon!

you should now get a window, telling you, that there is a device trying to access your computer, asking you to allow or deny that access.

choose the action meeting your security (or paranoia) needs,
I took the last point (always allow this connection), as it should be no problem, if you set up your BT advanced config to only accept paired devices.

well, thats it.
run phonemonitor.exe. it should now find your phone now.

then try to sync (not that one in the phone, but XTNDcon)

i hope it helps.

---

if your phone sync does not work, don't look for a problem with your phone, don't send it to SE for a firmware upgrade, don't buy a new BT adaptor.

the phone talks to the BT adaptor.
if you can access your phone via 'my bluetooth devices',
you can be sure that your BT setup is aboslutely correct.

the faulty part is the phonemonitor accessing the phone via virtual com port on the BT stack and the network settings (VPN between phone and pc)

the window asking to allow or deny the phone - pc connection like a firewall popped up only one time on it's own. it would be much more easier, if this window is raised every time a connection is established.

now, let's hope the phone keeps on syncing until we all get a new one christmas 2005.

have a nice time, enjoy your phone.

somebody out there with another SE phone?
it would be interesting, if this one works for you, too.

I feel I have to clear up some misunderstandings here.

1. VPN (Virtual Private Networking) - Is used to establish a connection to a private network through a public network (internet for example). It has nothing to do with BT connectivity. It has nothing to do with synchronisation. In this particular context it's used to give connectivity to BlueTooth Network enabled devices. T610 is not a BlueTooth Network enabled device.

2. BlueTooth PIM Synchronisation - Is a native bluetooth service. It's not in any way related to XTNDConnect. It allows synchronisation between bluetooth enabled PIM devices. You don't need any additional software to run it.

3. Changing the IP address of a router is a big NO-NO. Unless you know what you are doing, you can make the whole network unrouteble.

4. XTNDConnect accesses the phone exactly the same way, no matter how it's connected. It tells MPM to open the connection to the phone. MPN will try looking on the enabled COM ports, which can be either a standart serial, IR serial, or BlueTooth serial. Once detected, XTNDConnect will communicate with the phone via MPM via serial port. Your PCs IP address has no effect on this sort of communication.

5. The phone firmware - older firmware for T610 had problems syncing more then 4-5 times in rapid succession. After that, MPM would simply not be able to connect. The only fix was to turn the phone OFF, and then ON again. My only conclusion is that it was the phone firmware was at fault. The new firmware does appear to be much more stable.

6. If you pair your phone to your PC you won't have to confirm everything.

just checked it:

if i disabled the 'bluetooth network' connection, sync still works.

switched my firewall to 'block all connections', and wow!
sync again still works!

so there seems to be a slight possibility, that the BT stack server listening to all the tcp/ip ports has nothing to do with the virtual com port to the phone ...?!

hmm, you are right! thanks!
that enlightens me a bit more.

but i wonder, why the phonemonitor always runs that search on all the com ports. why don't 'bind' it to a special port (i know, my phone is connected on com3, no need to search!)?

I am also unable to sync from Outlook. I have read the posts I can find, and understand some of it, but I think my problem may be different. When I try to load either the communication suite or the mobile phone monitor, I get the message that "capiinstall.exe has performed an illegal operation". When I try to run the sync software, it says doesn't recognize and says to connect the phone.

Note: I'm using Bluetooth, and I am able to use file transfer between the computer and the T616 successfully.

Any ideas or workarounds?

Thanks,
Gsquared

P.S. New here and just found this amazing site. Wow! What a wealth of information!

seems that your phonemonitor installation is broken.

maybe you need to get yourself a new phonemonitor installation from sony erricson and try to install that.

the phonemonitor is the most important part to set up the connection bewtween the sync software and the virtual com port on your phone (via bluetooth).

there will be no connection, if the phonemonitor.exe is not installed correctly, so you have to get that right first.

good luck!

I get this error message with both the communication suite and when attempting to install the phone monitor individually. It looks identical when it happens. I hava also uninstalled the communication suite and tried the phone monitor alone with the same result.

Any further ideas/suggestions?

Thanks!

First uninstall the communication suite
If your phone monitor is not removed with the communication suite, you will have to remove it manually (this is how)
Restart the PC
Download the most recent version here.
Install it (if you are using win 2000/XP you will probably need to be an administrator to install the software successfully)
If I had all the answers, I wouldn't have any questions.

Hi,

I was hopping to find a solution here in this very good forum but I can't believe no one has experienced the same strange behaviour..

Hardware: Sitecom CN-500 Bluetooth Stick + T610 + PALM Tungsten T
Goals: Sync Outlook with PALM Tungsten T and T610

1) Tungsten T = ok! so far.. The BT software find the Palm device and open a COM5 for Hotsynch (coud not work better..)

2) T610 + Outlook Sync through XTND Connect (
on the first install, everything works great so far! The Sitecom BT Soft open a COM6 as a virtual serial and the Communication Suite phone monitor find the T610 right away! I was so amazed about simplicity..
First XNTD Sync perfect! but..

.. shut down PC, go and get a black cofee and when I boot my system again, start BT stick and believe me... the BT icon goes from "red" "blue" to ... damned "green" and that's the end of the miracle..

After checking, I found out that although BT stick and T610 are "not visible" on each side, the Serial port connection start-up alone without any request..

Results:
1) I can PALM Hotsync! (less worse..) although BT icon keeps "green"
2) I can dial-up a GPRS connection! (good too..)

BUT I CAN'T SYNC my T610... because of COM6 permanently busy..

anybody with an idea? I can't symply uninstall Sitecom BT anytime I need to sync my T610..

another interesting fact is that this BT serial autostart-up was not effective with the T68i.. (Guys I can't even imagine switching now my T610 for the unprecedent T68i disaster..)

Thanks for any help!
