Thanks a lot to MikLSP for posting the following settings in another discussion:

Internet Accnts:
-Accnt name: O2 WAP GPRS
-Conn. type: GPRS
-user name: payandgo
-password: Password
-Address: payandgo.o2.co.uk
-IP add. auto: Tick
-DNS add. auto: Tick
-Use Proxy: Tick
-Proxy add: 193.113.200.195
-Proxy port: 8080
-Enable PPP: Tick

WAP Accnt:
-Accnt name: O2 WAP GPRS
-Int. Accnt.: O2 WAP GPRS
-Use Proxy: Tick
-Add: 193.113.200.195
-Port: 9201
-user name: (blank)
-password: (blank)

Anythin not stated is left as default

IMPORTANT: READ BELOW IF YOU WANT IT TO BE FREE!!!!

Regarding the above settings, instead of using port 9201 on the WAP account I used 8080 and my grps is completely free now.woohoo. I also checked to see whether this was just the monthly 1MB free allowance but 2day i used about 4MB and no change on my credit.had few connection probs tho like once i get disconnected n try to reconnect i get a message saying activation rejected but then i change the port bac to 9201 and try connecting and then i still get activation rejected, then i change the port bac to 8080 and it works again. however doesnt always work after applying the little trick jus mentioned.i think it works after a little time.not sure on the exact time you have to wait.I have left my GPRS connected since morning (GPRS timeout = never) and its been free all day so im not complaining. O2 PAYG users give this a try and see if it works for you.also these settings also work on nokia 6600 (and possibly others) becuase my brothers have that phone and they to are getting free GPRS.spread the word if it works.

Good to hear you finally got it working mate.
I don't think you need to do anything to avoid the rejected message just keep retrying, it happens from time to time but very rarely where I am.

Posted by Qwerty_uk
Does anyone know if this will work if you're on O2, but not pay as you go?

It's guess it's not as easy to find out if it's free, as you have to wait for the invoice, but do the settings allow a connection for a start?

Posted by Andy_P
anyone else confirm this to be free for payg?

Would be very handy at the moment for me....

Posted by JohnM
Yes, I usually average about 30mb a day of free gprs with my o2 pay n go sim in! With regards to the activation rejected message previously mentioned in this thread, thats down to the network. I find its usually easily resolved by powering off then back on.

Damn... Do these settings work on a p800? has anyone tried? Damn I would love it if they did... Definitely saving these settings... Why wouldn't these work on other phones? I mean, what's to stop me using these on a p800???/?

Posted by MikLSP
Of course they work on a P800! What I don't understand is why you don't simply TRY!
These definately work for PAYG.
I don't know about contracts as I've never had one.

Posted by JohnM
The settings should work on any phone that allows you to change the proxy port setting, on o2 its 9201 as default, set it to 8080 and you get totally free gprs!

Posted by harvey172
I cudnt get it 2 work on my t610. Cudnt change the port number.

Posted by JohnM
In my experience, it only seems to be smartphones that allow the proxy port to be changed.

Posted by danielwong216
Does it work with O2 contract?

Posted by harvey172
Well thats a kick in the spools.

Posted by dekesh
all u guys on contract give the settings a shot.enter the settings den use some gprs and then check if u get charged when u get ur bill.i guess thats the only way 2find out on contract if u r getting charged.btw dont use too much gprs when u test out the settings otherwise u mite end up with a high bill if the settings dnt allow free gprs on contract.

Posted by nickorooster
The reason why I don't "try" is because I don't have my p800 yet, (friday hopefully) and also because I would have to get an O2 sim. Actually, I have an O2 online sim, will it work on that? It should shouldn't it? I'll try anyways.

ALso, why would a network allow a "free" gprs port???

Posted by dekesh
yeah works fine on o2 online and the old genie sims.dunno y a network would allow a port for free GPRS but it works so make the most of it.we shudn't b complaining, rite?free is free so thats all that matters

Posted by JohnM
Also works great for free internet on my pc using my p900 as a gprs modem over irda.

Posted by dekesh
@johnM

I wos wondering how you can set that up and is it possible with bluetooth and syncstation as i dnt have irda on my pc.could you please point me in the direction of a discussion that explains this or if possible could you give me a brief step by step guide.cheers m8

This message was posted from a P900

All new SEs like K700, S700, Z1010 etc. Allow it.
T610 and similar do not

Posted by JohnM
I couldn't get it to work through the synch station for some reason, probably because I'm using windows xp! I'll check my settings tonight after work and post them here.

Posted by MikLSP
I heard the 8080 port wap like a free backdoor for developers and testing etc. Don't know if there's any truth in that though

Posted by nickorooster
Makes sense, I just hope they don't change it. I mean, this is quite a big forum, search google for SE and it will pop up, so I dunno if the networks will change anything... I hope not. PLEASE NETWORKS DON'T CHANGE IT!!!! KILLING FREE GPRS=KILLING ESATO!!!!

Posted by gharknes1
if you're on a contract it should be free anyway, i have dialup, dsl, gprs and numerous others, how many isp's do we need ? mobile companies are ripping us off, especially when roaming.

How does this work on an old Genie sim as my Genie sim does not have grps and they say they will not activate it

Posted by nickorooster
Genie was the "predecessor" to O2 Online. Maybe that is why he mentioned it... Maybe some Genie SIMs were GPRS enabled before they dissappeared.

Posted by JohnM
@MikLSP where do you change the proxy port on a k700, can't seem to find it.

Posted by dekesh
it should work on da genie sims cos dats wot im using it 4m.i got it activated a long wile bac but maybe they disabled activiting it now.try checkin with o2 again cos in my experience o2 staff dnt knw everything.sometimes if i fone twice i get my problem resolved.its up 2u or u can get a sim 4m o2.sometimes dey are free as advertised on hotmail site 4m time to time

@dakesh

I finally finished reading your message. I respect that you may find it easier to type like that, but honestly, even if it is just for my sake, please type in english.
Other than that, you have a good point.

@all

The links to those free O2 Online sims come up in here once in a while. Just keep an eye out for links in the general discussion or whereever.

It's ok, just don't overdo it.

@all

Can someone help me, I'm not sure I get it. I can connect my PC to the net via GPRS, using it as a modem or what? I am interested only because I wouldn't mind remote net access. Basically my question is this. How fast is GPRS? is it faster or slower than 56k?

Cheers for that, just sorting out my mates k700.

Posted by JohnM
Well interesting to see my mates k700 contract phone has the proxy port set to 8080 as default. Found the same to be so on another friends phone, a contract samsung E800. Maybe gprs on contract is free?!

Posted by nickorooster
Maybe, I dunno, but all I know is thye better not change it back, 'cause I really want to be able to acces the net on my phone.... When I get it anyways... Has anyone tried using gmail on a p800/900/910i? Basically, does opera support active X controls, or not???

Edit: The below post is really what I wanted to know....

can anybody access full internet via GPRS on o2 PAYG for free.if so please post.or if any o2 contract people are getting free GPRS with internet then please can you post the settings here.worth a try on PAYG and see if it works

Posted by dekesh
@MikLSP

regarding the beginning of the thread jus to confirm that you are right you dont have to fiddle round with the port numbers after recieving the activation rejected message.jus keep trying and it works.

@all

on the first post in this thread ignore the bit where I wrote about chagning the ports after recieving the activation rejected message when you get disconnected.

soz for the confusion i may have caused.long live port 8080 on o2

Posted by MikLSP
Yeah, I thought so
That only occurs due to a network problem such as it's to busy or something

Posted by nickorooster
Hmmm.. Does capitalisation matter? I just tried these on my p800, and was charged....

I think i'll try using the capitals, but other than that, what went wrong?? (I am using a p800 with the latest version of Opera browser...)

I have an O2 Online sim in there... (It's a new one, does it need to be activated or anything??)

has anybody got pop3 and instant messengers 2 work on o2 PAYG GPRS?if so can u please post the settings as it will benefit many users.also does anybody know the port numbers that the instant messengers use?

Posted by Greggy
No ive never got pop3 to work i can send stuff up to 160kb by pop3 with a web email

Posted by dekesh
Oh ok.i thought that you got the p900 built in email software 2 work via the free gprs discussed in this thread.anybody know any ports we can try on o2 to enable free pop3 via gprs?

Posted by dekesh
and also imap as well(sorry forgot 2 mention in the above post).

Posted by nickorooster
Again, (because this is really bothering me), WHY IS IT NOT FREE??? I only get free internet acess when it's in its cradle (because it connects through my pc i'd assume...) and then the little GPRS globe down the bottom doesn't pop up. But when it does, I am charged.... WHY???

Nick

Posted by MikLSP
I can use pop3 email with on problem on P900 and on K700 but it is not free unfortunately.

I don't think it's possible to use instant messenger on o2 PAYG though as it doesn't allow the proper access.

I'll try post the email setup later

Mik

Posted by dekesh
cheers for the email setup m8.post as soon as you can please in your own time.

is it onIy possible 2 access o2 pop3 server?cont u access other pop3 or imap servers via gprs?

Posted by MikLSP
Don't know for sure about that sorry. I've only ever used the o2 service

Posted by dekesh
no worries m8.does anyone else knw how 2access pop3 n imap servers via o2 payg gprs other than o2's service?

Posted by nickorooster
No, not sure, but if you could somehow get your pop3 email service to "forward" all emails to your o2 account, people could still send emails to your old account, and you'll be able to get them on your mobile. That's all I can really think of, but if it IS pop3, I'm sure that there are programs for your PC that recive the email then re-send it to another email address... That's what I was planning to do anyway, but it turns out Gmail doesn't support pop3 or anything....

This free gprs also works on my nokia 6230. Great for video downloading and streaming.
