Hi everyone,

serious mishap with my S-E Arc last week, ,,,,,,

but have it insured with Vodafone.

What will they do?

a) replace with a brand new Arc?

b) replace with a refurbished Arc that has a crack at the top of the front panel?

c) replace with a brand new Arc S?

d) replace with a refurbished Arc A that has a crack at the top of the front panel?

e) let me choose ?

Any comments welcomed!

Using my W900i purchased from Marly!

How did it end up like that?

Posted by adsada
That picture makes me sad, like really really sad. That poor arc man, what did you do to it?!?! Also had you taken off the shatter proof sheet?

Posted by Bonovox
Either a brand new or refurbished Arc or if no more older Arc's available then an Arc S. That's definitely a replacement job with insurance anyway. Have you contacted them?? Its like a car crash mate its a write off

Man that is one hell of a lockscreen there....ooops... no your screen is cracked up.

Posted by ofiaich
Hi everyone!

It fell out of an aeroplane, bounced onto the tarmac and somebody had removed the anti-shatter protection coating from the tarmac

Looks like a nice screen saver design!

@bonovox yes, and the agent ( Vodafone) wants me to take it to a shop so it can be sent for repair assessment.

I hope they give me an Arc S.

Repair?? Under insurance they would normally replace that An aeroplane well if it was at 36,000 feet it might have landed on the roof of a Vodafone store

@bonovox

hahaha, yes the agent said 'repair' but she had not seen the phone, and didn't go along with my description of it!

I'll go to the Vodafone shop this afternoon!

Good luck. And as they don't make the older Arc now lets hope you get the S version I guess they have to say that as they cannot see it yet. But that should be replacement easy as that has happened to me before. As for insurance everyone NEVER use T Mobile Fone Safe. They make any excuse not to pay up delt with them years ago.

Posted by ofiaich
thanks very much!

I am told it should take 5 days to sort out!

Till then, using my W900i!

Posted by Bonovox
Ah that & the old S700i were 2 of my old faves!! Ya know when insurance people always say we will replace your phone within 48 hours. It never happens

Posted by ofiaich
Yes, I can imagine... I will call them on Wednesday to discuss...

Oh! Seeing your shamrock, my phone bounced out of an Aer Lingus plane!

Ofiaich

Posted by Bonovox
No luck of the Irish there then though maybe it will be if you get an Arc S Were you coming from Ireland or somewhere else?? Aer Lingus planes are bloody cramped

Do they need 5 days to find out what's wrong with it??

@bonovox, I hope so! Arc S or another of my choices.. I came to Ireland for my uncle's funeral. More than 600 people called to his house, where his body was lying,,, and again to the church!

If Heinekin did funerals,,,, they would copy the Irish send-off!

@mattiL, yes, phone to be sent back to a technician, then tell decision to Claims Department... then.. z.z.z..z.z.z.z

I'm doubting it, but did the phone still turn on? Like was it just the screen that was smashed, or is it completely f'd up?

Posted by blackvodka
poor you and the beautiful Arc... good luck and hopefully you'll get a replacement soon which colour Arc/Arc S have you thought of choosing?

Wow he was popular!! Sorry for your loss. I have tons of relations in Ireland some I have not seen for ages

WOW! Sorry about your Arc.
Id have a heart-attack if that happened to my GS2.

Hopefuly you get a Arc S, its incredibly fast and smooth.

Posted by Bonovox
Have you seen the GS2 v iphone drop test?? The GS2 survived but who knows if it would from a plane

Posted by Tsepz_GP
yep teased one of my friends with it as he has a iP4, lol.

Posted by Bonovox
It's cos the GS2 is lighter not heavy glass & steel

Posted by ofiaich
Hi!

@adsada! It would not power up, and small ghostly shape of an Arc, left the tarmac, joined the queue of other airliners, and it departed into the heavens...

@blackvodka no idea what colour to choose. I will call them to check things out tomorrow.

@Bonovox yes, very popular! My grandmother had 1000 signatures in her condolences book, and 1400++ attendees to her funeral!

thanks to all! I will post about how easy the process was with Vodafone. I have noted that my name is incorrect on the Vodafone Repair Booking Record!

Yes, it's true I managed to jump into a passing spacehip and took a quick photo of my Arc as it joined the queue to depart Dublin Airport.. You can see my Arc clearly between the 2 Aer Lingus jets! You can even see the ghostly shadow on the runway!

I just could not understand why air-traffic control did not give my Arc priority clearance!

Hi Bonovox,

No, it has not got wings, but you can order RED BULL for in-flight reshreshment, from the cabin crew!

@Ofiaich,

I still dont get how you dropped the phone from a jet plane!? I once dropped my n96 but that was from a small plane c-172.. So nothing happened.. but wow, after falling from such a height, the body still managed to be intact!... Hope you get your new phone soon enough..

Posted by blackvodka
take a white one like mine it's a true beauty and I'm sure you'll be always careful not to drop it even on your carpet

Posted by ofiaich
Hi!

phone was sent today, so I will call them tomorrow or Wednesday to discuss!

If I can choose, White Galaxy II or Xperia Arc S or Galaxy Nexus?

Ofiaich

Posted by blackvodka
my choice - white Arc S before upgrade to white Sony S

Posted by ofiaich
Hi everyone!

Well, the Vodafone store got my name incorrect, the date I purchased the phone and their paperwork stated my phone was out of warranty. so do not charge, but then in another box, £100 charge was added.

Customer support not good but today had a better conversation. They say in warranty and just the excess to pay on the insurance.

Seems to be no chance to negotiate on a different handset such as the Arc S or Samsung SII.

At least the insurance has agreed to replace with a new handset. Hope they do not send a lower spec phone.

Hopefully get a new phone by Monday.

What a crap! No Arc?!

Posted by ofiaich
they say Arc discontinued,

and Arc S and Samsung SII would be considered as an upgrade and can't upgrade with an insurance claim..

Ofiaich

Posted by Bonovox
Nokia N8?? That ain't similar spec to Arc Hang on a minute. If Arc S is considered as an upgrade then so is the Sensation. The Sensation is dual core
[ This Message was edited by: Bonovox on 2012-02-04 16:13 ]

Posted by dibdin
What's wrong with the HTC Sensation?

Posted by Bonovox
The Sensation is an upgrade too point that out to them. You would be better off having insurance through a different company not Vodafone. Cos Vodafone replace phones but separate insurance companies would pay up the money instead to replace the handset

Posted by ofiaich
So is the choice between a HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S PLus ??

Ofiaich

Posted by Bonovox
Galaxy S Plus is good but worse camera & no flash. HTC Sensation yes but again that is an upgrade which they said the Arc S would be too. So why not give you the Arc S?? I don't get that

Posted by ofiaich
Hi!

I suppose I do not understand well enough about dual core and the differences between

Chipset Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon
CPU Dual-core 1.2 GHz Scorpion
and
Chipset Qualcomm MSM8255T Snapdragon
CPU 1.4 GHz Scorpion

Memory on Galaxy S PLus is
Card slot microSD, up to 32GB
Internal 8 GB/16GB storage (market dependent), 512 MB RAM, 2 GB ROM

whereas for Sensation it is
Card slot microSD, up to 32GB, 8 GB included
Internal 1 GB storage, 768 MB RAM

Might well ask my friend which one she likes and then go out and buy myself a sim free handset!

Confusing I am not sure of differences either

Posted by Ricky D
I'd personally go with the HTC sensation.

The extra ram is important and when it gets an upgrade to ICS the chip will come into it's own.

Only potential negative is that the battery on those isn't fantastic. Arc's is much better.

Also the design isn't as pretty as Arc, but neither are the other offerings.

It's more of an upgrade than Arc S would be.

Posted by ofiaich
Hi Ricky,

thanks! I have the Galaxy S Plus ordered but I will either give it to my friend or just keep it as a back up. I have been using my S-E W900i as a back up and although stylish, texts etc etc... are not so good.

I will then buy a sim free Android phone but not sure which one yet. I did use a 32 gig card in my Arc so would want a good phone, updatable to ICS and also a slot for a memory card.

So now need to research 'which phone?' or wait till the new S-E Xperia range are released.

Any suggestions?

Apparently for the Sensation there is an extended battery which does not require bigger cover. It's made by Anker and is 1,900mAh and there are many excellent reviews on it.
