- 2 hours of display on
- more then 24 h of WIFI
- 30 min of browsing
- 2 hours of listening to music

What?! 6 days?! There are reviews saying it barely remains 12hours!

What do you mean when you say 2hours of display on? I don't believe your 6 days story, anyway.

6 Days for an Android with that kind of Usage

that's unbelievable, most android/smartphones right now don't last for more than 2-3days with that kind of usage

If 3G was on, definitely not possible.

As I clearly stated : I did not activate automatic synch.
I have an SE Arc too, and when disabling auto-synch : no whatsapp, no gmail, no facebook etc, with display on 50%
with 3G on, i manage 3 to 4 days with moderate use.

I don't care if you don't believe me, I'm not selling you anything anyway.

From techradar.com Ray's review:

http://www.techradar.com/revi[....]a-ray-1028477/review?artc_pg=9

""It seemed too good to be true, but you know what? We're really thrilled to say it wasn't. Because here, in the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray, we have an Android handset where we can confidently say the battery life does not completely suck.
......

We got some fantastic readings out of our evaluation unit.

We're talking taking it off charge at 7am, some pretty heavy twitter usage for a couple of hours, an eight mile run (using both the RunKeeper software and FM radio simultaneously), about 20 minutes worth of streaming music over Bluetooth to the car stereo, sending about 12 texts and eight emails, plus about 30 mins worth of calls. At this rate, we still had 32% by 7pm.

That's quite commendable since Android smartphones (even Gingerbread handsets) aren't known for being phenomenal with battery. If you barely use the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray, you'll notice it lose about 1% an hour on battery, but these things are always subjective and depend on the strength of your signal and various other factors.""

Even if he did get 6 days where is the point or the fun in having a smartphone that does all these things yet you gotta turn them off??

Posted by mr_lou
I'm also getting very good battery time with my Ray. 50% left after 2 days with my usage, is something I've never seen on any other Android device.

Posted by Bonovox
Is that with sync on or off??

Posted by adsada
surely it must be due to the large battery and the small screen? As the display is always the most power consuming, and the battery is the same as large phones like arc, yet with a screen much smaller.

Posted by Bonovox
The screen is smaller with less pixels on the Mini phones but I never got battery life like that.

Agree. you buy a smart phone, Switch off everything, and say battery lasts for 6days. I don't see any logic.

There would be no point in having all them features then to turn them all off & not use the smartphone as intended

I can see a logic when you have 3 other phones and wifi everywhere.
No need to bash!!!
Forget it, it lasted 20 hours.
Happy now.

Is there an option to disable automatic brightness in Xperia Ray?

Yes, this option will be available when you update to 2.3.4

Only Xperia Play will have this option.

Posted by Zzzyzx
Is that 100% confirmed that only XPERIA Play will get that feature to disable the automatic brightness? How come SE wouldn't enable it on the other XPERIA devices? When I am at a room that has low lighting, the screen can get pretty dim too. By the way, I own an XPERIA mini and I am contemplating on whether to switch to XPERIA Ray hoping that I get an Auto-Brightness enable/disable option.

Posted by massimax
Xperia Ray (with stock 2.3.3) does NOT have automatic screen brightness. You set brightness level manually and it doesn't ever change

Posted by daydotz
considering this instead of mini pro(still waiting for o2 to get them)

the reviews mention wifi issues have you suffered any ive a zte blade which is so temperamental with signal an connecting id like to avoid getting a phone with not so good wifi

with it having a odd screen size have you found problems with apps an games can it handle the latest hd gameloft games with reasonable audio quality ?

i guess i can use the led as a flash light ?

i loved the xperia pros corner icon docks has the ray got this or know how i add it

how does the headphone socket feel the zte blades just didn't snap in a positive way

how does your ray handle content on iplayer 4od an demand5

thanks all

@daydotz, I too loved my Mini Pro's corner icons, and the new xperia mini line's multi-app corner icons as well. But alas, the ray doesn't have these. But you can make the 4 apps at the main bar folders.

no automatic screen brightness with the ray. maybe it doesn't have the light sensor? So far, I'm loving it...

Putting together a comprehensive review... will keep everyone posted.

Posted by bronxdude
jplacson - please include quality of music playback via headset on your review please. thanks

Please include:
* VERY IMPORTANTLY, the TOUCH SCREEN SENSITIVITY, please.
* some camera samples (in bright light, night time, real low light photos, with the photo light)
* Audio clarity (not how loud the sound is, but the clarity of the sound, please)
* typing on the keyboard (with and without swipe)
* battery life
* screen; how pleasing it's for eyes?
* miscellaneous.
Please consider this as a humble plea and do consider it. i'm planning to buy the ray and wouldn like to know whether it's worth my money.

Think most (if not all) of them actually got that option 2.3.4.

Not sure but I was read summary software review about android 2.3.4 of xperia 2011 line up by xperiablog.

They wrote that Arc / Neo / Ray in 2.3.4 still did not included an automatic brightness option.

That is good news. Although I am a bit confused. On paper, the ambient light sensor is listed as one of the features of the RAY. In the XPERIA mini, the light sensor is located at the topmost part of the screen to the far right if you are facing the display. If you cover it, the screen display dims out dramatically.

May be it's similar to the Arc? I have heard no issues about the screen brightness getting erratic on the Arc or Neo. But I wonder why people complained about it on the PLAY?

Posted by Zzzyzx
^^^ I stand corrected. I've read some complaints about the auto brightness option on the NEO. People are getting annoyed by it. How come SE doesn't enable that option for all its devices post the 2.3.4?

Posted by Bonovox
I just realised after reading Samboukas post on 6 days battery life. You said it included 24 hours of wi fi?? Impossible to use wi fi for 24 hours and get 6 days battery life.

Auto brightness will never be an option for the Ray because it doesn't have a light sensor.

If you're talking about an ambient light sensor, you're wrong. Xperia ray has ambient light sensor.

Posted by Zzzyzx
^^^ This is confusing. When I looked at one of the pictures of XPERIA Ray in Phone Arena there seems to be a small circle located on top of the display to the right. Also, if you look it up the at the official website of SE, it is listed as one of the features.

Posted by massimax
ray DOES HAVE light sensor: it is shown on the user manual indeed. BUT ray doesn't use it for automatic brightness adjustment (don't know why... maybe a bug... somebody with the just released 2.3.4 should tell us if they fixed this issue)

@bronxdude, review with the included headset or just playback in general even using much better headphones?

Jplacson, i wish you don't miss my post as well.

Have played once again today with a Ray in O2 store. I really wanted to like it but it is just so underwhelming Feels so light like a toy & the only nice thing is the screen which is not a good reason to buy a device.

Still,at least it is better than the Alcatel next to it
