Yeah, it looks like are on the warpath with their new phones, they're obviously trying very hard to repair the damaged caused by launching last years phones with Donut.

Posted by badassmam
I'm sure staff said that 2.4 was not really that, but 2.3 at the Arc announcement. I don't doubt that it will get 2.4 but the show units were not running true 2.4 as far as I am aware.

They will not make the same misstake again as they did with the x10 and the minis. Their new handsets is optimised for easy updates with their SE implements as apps and widgets on top of the android core. On the X10 they had it so deep in the android core so it took ages to complete an OS upgrade. Everybody is pissed of at SE for not upgrading to Froyo but the truth is that they would probably just mess it up and make it worse. That will never happen with these new handsets.

The design of Xperia Arc gives it plenty of 'Wow Factor' which will make it hard to ignore when displayed instore next to other, probably, more powerful devices.

Well unless they display it with it's screen facing the wall, very few people will notice it's cool back. Nor will it make any difference to them, they'll only be interested in how it looks from the front.

anyone know if you can change the blue theme on the Arc (or the Neo)

I know its possible on the Play, well I have seen screenshots on that chinese site where you could change it to different colours....

so those who have used it or trying it out, can you or na??

Posted by pavlov's_dog
i think themes are supported for this new batch of xperias. i saw a vid of the xperia pro. you can change the theme from the homescreen. the themes look the same though - the wavy thingy - but they come in different colors.

For me, right now, arc's camera seems to bring nothing new to the table.

It's a mobile camera, i think the x10i is great for a mobile, and the arc brings SPEED you can take like 10 pictures while the x10i manages one. that is a excelent "new thing to the table" imo who needs more than 8MP anyways. give us better optics (but it's a thin mobile, you can't fit it) if you want a camera buy a camera.

it has a dedicated miniHDMI so i guess 2 image output is 1 to many.

Xperia phones will use Bravia Link in order to connect HDTVs. It's not exclusive to Sony TVs either.

Arc's photos are noticeably noisier than the X10's (this may change on the final version) but the colours are a lot more natural than the X10. Beside who blows their phone photos up to full size.

On that basis Arc is slightly better camera than X10.

I have a decision now to make between the Sony Ericsson Arc, LG Optimus Black or the Samsung Galaxy S 2. At the moment the Optimus Black is right favourite.

You can change the color from blue. Saw it in a video on youtube.

HTC Desire S due in April for 500 euro, Incredible S priced 520 euro. And you're saying Arc is expensive If I'm correct, the major differences between Incredible S and Arc are in the screens (4" vs 4.2"), RAM (768 MB vs 512 MB), camera (Arc's one will certainly be better) and Android version (2.2 vs 2.3)

The same site has Xperia Arc at 600 Euro and Play at 650. So ? Arc is 80 Euro more expensive than Incredible S and 100 Euro more expensive than Desire S.
And 120 Euro more than Xperia Neo.

How bout we save the price arguments until the devices are released. Then you can argue REAL (final) prices!

moving on...

not sure if this has been posted... but the Exmor R actually works, and works well by the look of it:

And f/2.4 is also new cams' strong point, but sample photos have sony NR written all over them and I really hate that kind of approach to NR.
On the other hand I believe it will still produce decent photos inferior only to i9100 in android camp.

I rather see the arc being released sooner than later. By the end of the year we will see a lot of dual core phones competing for the xmas season.

Thinking about getting this or the N8, I prefer Android but want a decent camera too, I don't think the X10 camera is that good, For me the Arc's camera needs to be a big improvement especially indoors and in lowlight.

Why are you not happy with X10 camera? I'm surprised by your statement cause I feel it's got one of the best camera smartphone in the market.

X10

N8

In low light you can see X10 photos have better detail, brightness, spot on colours while maintaining lesser noise, that's like better in everything. I seriously don't know what the N8 buzz is all about, anything N8 can do, X10 can do better IMO. I seriously doubt the Arc would take a step backwards

Posted by HxH
If X10 lower EV 1 maybe 2 steps, I think light should have better control as N8 did.

Is both picture from your hands my friend Mode?

Posted by mode
Both full auto in my hands my friend. Don't worry about the glare from the lights, that's normal for a picture with such brightness. Take note that if I lowered the EV by 1 or 2 steps the X10 photo would've totally trashed N8 as it will have even lesser noise, better contrast etc. The N8 photo here will totally be noise ridden if I increased the EV to look as bright as X10. Both photos taken in auto to the best of my skill.

*edit*
Btw even at 6mp the X10 photo has better detail than the 9mp N8 photo.

SE are neglecting this phone, all the fuss is about the Play.

I can understand the logic to an extent, the Play is where they feel they can make a lot of money from and it being a 'Playstation' phone attracts a lot of attention.

I am only interested in the Arc cause it really is the kind of phone I was hoping for from SE.

i have missed this clip about the ARC showing of it's HDMI capabilitys and i was shocked that you can use the TV-remote in gallery/youtube that is awesome!!!

Posted by Xajel
^^^

Yeah I saw that, thanks to HDMI's control channel and Bravia Sync.

The only flaw here is the lake of any Dock for these new phones ( specially Arc. / Play's dock does not connect the HDMI cable )...

It will be very nice to have a dock with Audio, HDMI & USB and put it near the TV, so connecting the phone will be very easy to all these connections... Audio for the home audio system, HDMI to the TV and the USB to charge or the HTPC...

some peoples may not need the audio jack as they have a AV receiver with HDMI audio in... but some may not have so having every port in the dock is nice...

I hope consider these small but important things in future phones... specially the next high-end phone...

Posted by SKIBBE
@Xajel you mean there will never be a dock? thought i saw that the PLAY should get one?

nope I meant there's no dock for Neo, Pro & Arc even thought all of them support this feature...

The Play's dock only offer USB and 3.5mm ports, no HDMI...

Posted by SKIBBE
I see, but they have to make one. seems stupid if they dont?

Here is "my" video http://www.youtube.com/watch?[....]5he1S8&feature=player_embedded .

Does it play .mkv container? (thirdparty?, guess the remote wount work then) if not the hdmi for movies is kinda useless no one (including me) will not hazzle with reencode every movie for the phone

nice review! Can you tell me what language that is? It is like the coolest rap-like laguage I´ve heard. From 0:30 to 1:20 it actually sounds like a song, awesome!

It really has a good design but...it seems that it's still laggy...too laggy for a 2011 android.

Ehmm, with that horrible quality and bad framerate, how can you see if there is no lag?

That video is recorded at 10fps...it's impossible to notice if there is lag or not because the video itself isn't smooth enough:
