Yeah, think I've seen that in a video, previews outlook style whilst in landscape...

Only managed to see and feel a dummy model today but must say I'm impressed with the design, the phone is thin and feels smaller than I thought it would.

Really wanting this as my next handset now...

Wanna have a proper play with one...

The IPhone and other devices work perfectly on the same signal!

My Arc works superb with WiFi.

BUT MY REMARK:
Some networks - I have no idea why!!! - work with one device and not with others.
Why? I experienced this few times when I was not able to connect with my devices but my friends could do it. It also happened the other way around.
So it may be just THIS network.

Well 6th day and I'm very happy.
Battery became "normal" in usage too.

Posted by justus333
That would be a real bummer as Im having quite a small data contract.
Removed my network, resynced and now it doesnt even connect anymore!!!!
A nuisance, especially as the browser experience is just overwhelming, almost as fun as with the Ipad!
Also camera, I dont know what some guys expect but I think it is awesome (will upload some pics later)
Yes true, there might be other good phone cams or even better ones, but that doesnt make this one a bad one, on the contrary, for the first time Im motivated to just point and shoot because it´s that fast and the immediate result is great (coming from an IPhone 3gs and well, that is a big difference).
Another great thing, not to be underestimated in a telephone, call quality us the best I´ve had so far!!!
Battery life sucks though! But of course that might be due to my playing with it 24/7!

Anyone knows some great games? Have to fly soon and need something to kill time (no angry birds pls!!:-)

OUtside of Sony/// responsibility: Android quite sucks compared to IOS!

justus333,

Try Totemo its a very addictive game.

Posted by bl-gr-n
Try Gamelofts "Let's golf 2"
A beautiful 3D game, that's runs perfect on the DHD. As the Arc is half year newer it would run better on the Arc

Posted by doministry
I think Arc is very stable.
I just control Apps open in the background, there's a nice control for that in Menu.
I'm satisfied.

And I also think made a very good job on UI.
Looks miles better than stock Android and I like it more than HTC Sense.
And SPB doesn't match this anymore. Just saw MobileReview review of it.

for those with wifi problems. try changing your channel in the router if you can.
i had mine set at wireless N channel 13 and my arc couldn't connect much less detect but when i changed it to channel 7 it connected immediately.

On one Arc review I've read that the new UX feels more Vanilla than those of Nexus S.

Reset your router. Happens to me all the time on my Linksys. Other devices can connect, specially those that never logged off, but my phone, which I use to log into other networks has trouble every now and then. This is a dhcp issue, not a phone issue.

First of all thanks to all replies and the gaming tipps Tank hero looks good, the right thing for a long plane ride

Woke up this morning turned on Wifi and....it works like a charm and Im in love again with this device!
Discovered another killer feature this time related to Android and that´s maps! So much better than on the IPhone! And the navigation works great and it´s a non-paid feature. Grinding my teeth thinking that I paid 75.- on Navigon!!!!

Uploading some pics to the other thread, curious about your opinions....

P-S anyone an idea where to get movies, series for the Phone. On Ios you could buy them on Itunes, but it doesnt let me transfer them....

Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo delayed to Q3, Arc and Play facing limited supply due to Japanese quake

There hasn't been much good news coming out of Japan lately and this sadly keeps up with the unhappy trend. Sony Ericsson has officially bumped the broad launch (it's already available in limited quantities) of its Xperia Neo handset to at least July, explaining the delay as the result of "supply chain disruptions." Additionally, the Xperia Arc and Play devices, two other members of the company's new Android Gingerbread family, will be available in smaller volume than expected, at least for the near term. We guess that might go some way to explaining why the Xperia Play failed to reach some UK carriers in time for its April 1st launch date. Skip past the break for a statement from Sony Ericsson, who promises to be more explicit about the situation when it delivers its latest quarterly results on April 19th.

I called the Manila Sony stores today, the Arc & Neo availability timelines have definitely slid. No word on what the new dates are. Having said that, I pray Japan & its people recover from that triple quake-tsunami-nuclear disaster. If the supply lines firm up soon that's one good sign that the recovery is on the way.

Well probably depends on which part.
Image gallery is stock Android - and it's great.
But than almost everything else is including icons and it is great.

It's no silly question.

Micro-HDMI to standard HDMI, in sweden we got it with the phone. Model: IM820 if you want SE cable. But I guess any Micro-HDMI will do

Edit: Micro HDMI is the right one, not Mini...

How impressed are you guys with the screens visabilty in direct sunlight? I am very impressed!

Forgot to mention! That´s another highlight of the Arc. Readability in direct sunlight is nigh perfect!

Must admit, the Arc has some strong assets going for itself!

You guys in Sweden seem to get everything thrown in the box with the phone .

Especially when it comes to having the pouch included. I have had to buy one off of ebay for £10.

Find out if your bootloader can be unlocked [Guide]

Sony Ericsson plans to open the bootloader across the new range of Xperia Android smartphones. Whilst we wait for Sony Ericsson to provide the official details on how to do this, we thought we’d provide a quick guide on how to find out if your handset has the capability to have its bootloader unlocked.

finally, I got my xperia Arc today. Here in Malaysia, the price is RM2099 (about GBP 424 or 480euro). In the box it comes with several accessories:-
- wireless headset with FM radio MW600
- HDMI cable Im820
- Screen protector
- Car charger AN401
- 8GB memory card
- charger and USB cable.

First impression... very very very fast, even from first boot. very smooth. very good camera. very nice screen (bright) and so many good things.

negative side... not found yet. Will keep looking.

WOW! Shutgun solution.
Why not first check if you have a default gateway assigned to the Arc first? Why not check if MAC filtering is enabled? Why not assign a new IP lease on the router from the service provider (new IP address lease)? I'd check these first before resetting and setting up the router and all your devices to be reconnected.

a DHCP issue is not resolving www.esato.com to the correct IP address.

Well I've bricked my two-day old Arc. Had a few issues, including bluetooth not working properly (force closes every time I try to connect to it with my Mac), so I decided to update it. Update failed halfway (as has happened before for me with SE updates) and the phone won't turn on any more. I no longer get the option to repair the phone, and the computer won't recognise it when I plug it in (it seems to be stuck in a loop of connecting and disconnecting).

So tomorrow I have to find a service centre and try and get myself out of this mess. Say what you like about the iPhone, but I never managed to brick one, unlike SE (bricked two). It's a bloody shame, cos I really like the Arc. I'm gonna keep it once it's repaired, but I certainly won't be updating it again.

Seems like your transition from WM devices to Android is working out well.
OMG … ProfiMail is available for Android now?! Sweet this app was KING in the Symbian S60 world and for good reason. Have a question … on Android is there an app to RDP to a Windows Machine (possible to remote connect to a Mac OS X machine ??)?

Glad to see the Arc getting some love and also sales - unfortunately SE has one manufacturing plant. Hopefully they learn and make another in a different country.

Not even a yellow triangel when you turn it on? Are you sure you have any battery left?

Nope, no yellow triangle. Battery was on about 95% when I started the update, so it *should* have been okay. I have read on Google that it's possible the battery drained fully during the update, so I've got it plugged into the charger at the moment, and will try again in the morning to turn it on. It's 00:30 now, and I have to get up at 7

@shanespencer Did you try connecting to the PC in flash mode with SEUS? Also did you try taking the battery out for 30 seconds? A conbination of the 2 might work.

OT: where abouts in China are you? I'm in Beijing, went down to the nearest Suning and saw arc for 5888yuan, went to the market downstairs and managed to haggle to less than 4500yuan but they only had blue (I really want silver) and the package they had didn't have the HDMI cable . I still have a pre-order with expansys but their page has said it'll be 5 days for about a week now and if I can get one in hand downtown then I'll cancel with them.

No luck on either of those, Ricky. The only sign of life I get from the phone is the little green service light which flashes every two seconds. Holding the power button in makes the phone buzz as if it's coming to life but then nothing happens. I'll take it to the service centre today and see what they say. By the way, I'm in Dalian.

No. Not LowYat. I got it directly from Sony Erricson in MidValley. I went to sonystyle store (KLCC), the phone was sold out. Even the display unit gone. I went to Maxis roadshow at MidValley and again the phone was sold out. Luckily I got one from SE and they have very limited stock.

Took my Arc in for repair today, gonna be out of my hands for three days...

Till I get it back, I have a question for those that know: I have predictive text turned on, and I can't for the life of me figure out a way to override the suggestions it gives when I type. I've tried adding words to the dictionary but they don't show, so even something as simple as "haha" means I have to turn predictive text off, type each of the four letters manually, then turn predictive back on - a major pain in the butt, and I'm sure I'm missing something that would make it easier! Can anyone help?

Also, the reason I originally wanted to reinstall the firmware was because bluetooth wouldn't work when trying to connect to the phone from my iMac. Every time I initiated a connection, the phone told me bluetooth has stopped working and must be closed. Anyone else get that at all?

@shanespencer which keyboard do you use? I know on the Chinese keyboard, the first iteration didn't have the option but after going through the update option in the keyboard setting and removing the old keyboard, the prediction can be turned off quite easily.

I use(d) the default keyboard. I was hoping not to need to turn off prediction and turn it back on. I was kind of hoping there was a way like on the iPhone, where the phone makes suggestions, but you can easily add your own instead?

@shanespencer: That functionality is present in the HTC IME Mod keyboard, which i found at XDA, but only in landscape mode, since in portrait mode, the keyboard is a 12 key one with T9 support (which i love to use, over the compact querty)... Ive noticed that when i write a message in landscape mode, the word i write becomes one of the options present with the suggestions, so i can simply select it with a single tap.

I hope this helps a bit.-

Try swiftkey. I think it will do what you want and more.
you have to use it for a while for the full benefit though.
