Is the screen on the Arc likely to suffer from screen burn at all??

Its probably because of costing back plastic is cheaper but over all it looks good

Sure it is, but if the price will be similar as when X10 was released some metal parts would not hurt to justify the price.

Especially when you're at 117g, they could have added 5-6 g easily

It doesn't really weigh anything. Feels very light, taking the the size into consideration.

In Danish, but worth viewing.

Also, here's my quick sneak peek at Arc and a quick comparison with the LG Optimus 2X:

Yeah, I know what you mean. Some metal parts (e.g. the back cover or the frame) would have made the phone a bit more luxury.

One reason I got the black X10 was because of the matte back cover. I do think however, that any weight they can shave off is worth it, a few grams makes a difference imo.

@ Mizzle, am I hearing this right when Mobil.nu says the price is gonna be 4000 danish kronor (~530 euro). If so it's cheaper than I expected.

Yep, it was confirmed to us by one of the Danish national account managers. That's including tax.

Then it goes from interesting to really interesting. It still not cheap but its not top high-end expensive either.

How much ram does the Arc have??

Posted by tyko
I think Richard Skogberg at the product launch blog mentioned 384 available RAM, he has been wrong before though

Posted by Bonovox
What?? That cannot be right I thought the old x10 had 512

Posted by tyko
This is what he said "Different manufacturers use different type of numbers in their specs communication. Amount of total “RAM” in my sample according to some benchmarking apps and the inbuilt system info seems to be around 313 MB and the amount of storage memory for applications seems to be around 380 MB. (Important to remember that my sample still has early SW so don’t take these numbers as facts!)"

X10 doesn't have 512 AFAIK, rather 384 or something in that order

Edit: my X10 have 165 MB available RAM after startup.

honestly this phone remind me of the days SE have T610 or K700.
on hardware/ electronics.... those phone was far behind what Nokia offering during that time.

even for W880...when it was out...spec isn't good but selling point is thickness

now SE also have similar situation for Arc...hardware...it don't have AMOLED but well...majority of the phone maker is trying to avoid it due to capacity issue in the industry....and other stuff on electronics as well.

because SE focus on the style...just like T610/ K700 which were HIT product even with an lag behind electronics put in.
Those two product have very lousy display and camera compare to others when it was out.

Now I just wish the price is right with proper marketing since Arc is in my opinion the nicest looking ANdroid phone announced so far in 2011....all the others maker are sickening....Samsung and LG in particular....its just like they get a copy machine taking the stuff out from iPHONE..... really feel like Samsung and LG is trying hard to be "SHAN ZAI" brand to APPLE.

opssss enough nagging hehe...once I got the budget, I will definitely look into what to get....Arc or the still unannounced Zeus. Arc got the advantage due to its style.

+1, and I think that you should also consider the hallon.

@S4k1s: no dual core=2010 phone for the geeks ( ), plus it hasn't got an oled/amoled/super amoled/ superamoledplus screen...

Why does it need a oled/amoled/super amoled/ superamoledplus screen if its screen is just as good or better?

And why does it need to have dual-core? You need to look at the package not only the cpu. It's pretty retarded to just look at the CPU and say oh that phone is ages behind the rest.

Posted by KU
becose actually a smartphone doesn't deserve to be good or ever excelent, but it deserve to be the best or it is just sh*t for some people every detail are very important...
But the lack of front facing camera is really a bad thing, So I hope the hallon is great or I am gonna pass through that and get my Xperia Arc.

Posted by S4k1s
Yes, because video calls are so amazing and widely used

Posted by Ravager
Front facing camera.... The X10 is the first phone that I've had in the last 6 years without a front facing camera, at least 6 different SE phones with that stupid camera that I never used. Then Apple releases the Iphone 4, wow revolutionary, a camera for video calls, WOW! Maybe the times have changed a little, with the ability to call via Skype and so on, but to be realistic, very few will ever use it!

What I miss from apple isn't the technology, no, it's the build quality. Give me metal, as it used to be back in the old days, T610 and K700 with aluminum panels and great design! Give me glass and buttons that still have the "chrome" coting on after 10 months of use. And hire a team of skilled Chinese people to assemble it.

And to the developers in Lund, Sweden, I'm sure you will do great work once you learn the "tips and tricks" in android. It's not easy to perform a great interface the first try, and i hope this time you will hit the nail on the head!

Posted by S4k1s
I think the interface on the Arc looks amazing 0_o

Fake metal is crap yes

Posted by Pjuklarven
I thougt this might be interesting for those interested in the SE Arc.

Source

Run it through Google translate, its in swedish.

The story is that the just announced Honeycomb from google is in fact android 2.4 and not 3.0.

This feels like the truth if you consider that SE has announced an update for Arc to Honeycomb and we have seen pics and video footage of an Arc with 2.4 running on it.

I might be wrong ofcourse but it seems wierd that one of the Arc's just happen to run 2.4, don't you think?

for you maybe its update .... for me I don't mind its not having all the latest stuff

but did you notice people hoping something like duo core....more megapixel...amoled in? maybe I read it wrong
but I remember some where in other thread here...some are asking why its not the latest etc etc... but honestly
not every general consumer will really need those duo core... 1.2Ghz or what so ever stuff...people at the end
still going to look for something tht is affordable...nice to use... and have nice industrial design....also a phone with no funny bugs that need special way to hold the phone or having risk their Alarm won't work

best looking smart phone so far I love it i didn't get the X10 so looking forward to getting this

but when you read around...you see a lot of Retards claiming Arc is behind

that;s why I like to refer Arc back to T610...when it was out...some friend told me...Nokia 7210 if not mistaken is better due to better color on the screen...better camera (that time smartphone is rare or non existent)

but T610 as I remember beat 7210....same for K700 which beat up its 1 megapixel competitor from nokia even K700 only have a VGA camera.

honestly people look into AMOLED thanks to all the marketing about Galaxy... and also those LED TV ...people saw LED...they think its going to let them do many things.... of course with super amoled...they can get better visibility under day light but LCD also can do the same as long as the air gap between touch panel and the display unit get removed and many seem don't realize if they plan to use a phone for quite some times....AMOLED might one day give you a super lousy display that cant reproduce blue...since when it come to LED...the substrate that produce blue have shorter life span which they compensate but making some reduction on the brightness of the display. (Wiki it out...its there and well known industry fact whcih everyone still working to improve)

anyway many things are get boost by marketing gimmick. As long as we know what we want....that's good enough.
but I still hope SE found a way to make a product people love.... they just need to hit the right spot in knowing what people want....not going for the latest gadget.... well even the hardware for MOtorola look interesting as its the fastest but their design showed in CES seem boring like LG/ Samsung.

what i hope now is SE keep the hype with their product launch blog...show us more tricks.

since Arc have 2nd mic hope they demo what they can do with it beside noise cancellation

and hope more details on camera/video performance will be there

Anyone knows if it has DLNA support?? Would be great to run it as a mediaserver along with a PS3. I do it today with Satio and it works great. All music and photos in full HD on the TV without a cable.

Yes, it does. Sony is very big on wireless interconnectivity and they haven't forgotten the Arc where this is concerned. It's on the official spec sheet.

Posted by Platia1
Rog's video shows the Media Server app on the Arc actually running

It should work pretty well considering the 802.11n WiFi. Almost makes the HDMI out pointless

Posted by rog
In case someone was wondering: the arc scores 62.1FPS with the most recent pre-release firmware. Not too bad...
Oh, and the DLNA server works nicely

Is the Arc's screen ever likely to suffer from screen burn at all???

It will but TBH i prefere that than a large viewing angle that allow anyone to see what you're doing with your phone...
I've never said that this phone suck nore the lack of dualcore/oled whatever screen make me sick, or that I do visio calls. the benchmark is the best of single core phones (63.x).
So yes the lack of front facing camera offense even if it isn't a deal breaker.
I should consider other SE phones that are going to be anounce at MWC, but it is very hard to pass through this masterpiece.

Anyone notice the difference in white walls on the screen and the real ones behind? I know the screen backlight make difference on shots like this, but I think the difference here is bigger then normal.

So what do you think is the Arcs Exmor-R just a marketing trick or not?

So Arc has a dedicated Timescape app after all?

Yes, it does.

But in this case, the Timescape looks different to the X10's. A new version?

Yes, it got a slightly new look&feel. You can see it in action in our video: http://www.se-first.com/de/Xp[....]c-detailed-hands-on-video.html

@ROG:
Do you get a wowfeeling on the Exmor R Sensor?? If you compare it to another 8,1mp camera?? Is it as light sensitive as they say??

@rikken: I assumed the T stands for that. But I never thought L for Low.

Could the L be for Level?
