Pad is the Dutch word for toad.

The success of the iPad will depend on the content providers; if all you can read on it is the NY Times then it'll not generate enough sales and fail. But if as I suspect many Newspapers, Magazines, Journals and Industry publications as well as Book Publishing Houses get on board with content for this device then it'll become the standard setter among eReaders and succeed extremely well. American publishers will need to start the ball rolling though, then other countries will follow.

The iPad is targeted further upmarket than the iPhone and sales will reflect this. If it succeeds then it'll probably attract a midrange market too and challenge the viability of paper-based content. How long before Google decide to compete in this market with an open source standard and HTC designed device?

HTC ditched plans to release an Android based 'pad' earlier this year... I wonder if they will u-turn that decision?

I think Archos will have something similar along soon as they have the Archos 5" Android device out, 7" will be available soon and I can't see it being long before the 9" will be announced.....

Similar to Swedish. The word for toad is padda.

The ipad on the whole has had some pretty bad reviews i would say its been a disappointment even the usual apple fanboys have have given it a mixed reception so it remains to be seen how the ipad fairs upon release?

if its good enough for Batman...

Posted by Nanu
@Masseur I am very sorry to burst your bubble...... but that ain't the real Batman!!

The real Batman helped Apple develop the iPad with Alfred, and there has been one built into the Batmobile for some time now. FACT

Posted by lukechris
He's right you know, I heard that too

Posted by masseur
Apple sells over 300,000 iPads on day of debut (msnbc)... and...

... iPad owners downloaded over a million applications

Harsh, its not even a software problem, am I the only one who can sense a recall ..........................

Posted by goldenface
Sad! Lets hope they can sort it out quick. Early adopter syndrome has struck again.

Posted by lukechris
Well yes, but everything (by anyway) has its problems straight after release right?
Don't know why I'm being like this I ruddy hate the things

Posted by pmerryman
Surely, they must have known something was a miss. It should have been tested fall all types of failures.

Posted by lukechris
...... but thats what happens when things are rushed

Posted by pmerryman
Bit like the Xbox 360 really. Wonder if people will get a free 3 year warranty with this.

Posted by lukechris
This is Apple you know, their not that generous

Posted by pmerryman
You may get a free App

Posted by masseur
its nice to know that the US gets to sort out all the initial iphone/ipad problems before we get it

I have to say I'm definitly hooked and am now sure I'll be getting the wifi+3g version. I already have many ideas of how I'll using it around the house... in the bath... on the toilet... in bed... basically everywhere where I squint trying to use my iphone when I haven't got my glasses on me!

can't imagine using it on the train though, where I normally watch alot of video podcasts going to/from work. Mind you, having used mobile phones since mid 80's I said the same thing about them in those days and now look...!

Posted by masseur
iPad gets a camera (lol)

Posted by julias
I am also looking to get the wifi+3g version does anyone have any idea when we in the U.K are likely to get it?

Posted by masseur
looks like the ipad is delayed in uk as the UK Apple iPad page has changed from late April to late May, with pre-order starting on May 10th

Posted by tranced
Yes, Jobs said that they had a higher demand from US.

Along with another 3G data plan?

The CEO of a new mobile network in NZ said that he expected up to 500% market penetration (5 connections for each user) and was laughed at by many people but when you consider iPad, iPhone (or other smartphone), laptop with 3G USB modem, a landline and an ADSL Broadband connection his statement is starting to look more reality than fantasy.

not sure yet. I'm seriously thinking of doing what alot of US people are doing and just get the wifi version and one of those mifi devices that generate a personal area hot spot around you from a 3g connection.

It will still require another sim, but:-

a) it will be a standard sim, not the smaller sim the iPad uses and so therefore the sim could be used in other devices
b) the simcard in the mifi hotspot will be usable by more than just a single device.

Posted by carkitter
Is there a mifi app for the iPhone? If not then it might be a good app to create considering both Apple Macs and the Palm Pre can be used as a Mifi device as part of their standard feature set.

I think a dedicated Mifi device is unnecessary really. It's just waiting for an app to make it obselete.

Posted by voda_jon
@masseur... i have the 3 Mifi and its ace. i use it with my nettop whilst on the move and i cant fault it. starts up everytime and i just top it up when i need to.

Also much more handy as also allows me to get apps on my ipod touch when on the move and out of wifi coverage and allows much more freedom of where to acess the internet on the move.

In regards to the iPad... i've ordered one from a UK based company who have them for £450 delivered. Got confirmation today its posted out so should have it by monday at the latest )

Posted by masseur
thanks for the mifi info. I've been trying to decide whether to go with 3 or get one off ebay unlocked and use a tmob sim.

what capacity ipad are you getting for £450? I see the 64gb are going for £600+ on ebay at the mo

Posted by tranced
Just in case you need a stand for your iPad:

Found this on slashgear

Posted by Miss UK
that doesn't look very stable like that
I saw a Video on Kelkoo who happen to have the first one in the UK apparentley,
the un-boxing doesn't look very amazing plus the whole iPad seems to take up the whole box inside

Posted by Liontiger
really want that ipad too it's like a tv

Posted by Miss UK
@ Liontiger, well you can get it and give us the verdict on it since
you live in Apple country erm America

Posted by julias
What will be the official U.K pricing for the ipad?

Posted by masseur
your guess is as good as mine.

I assume we'll find out next Monday when pre-orders open, but don't expect an exchangerate conversion from the current US prices. perhaps do the conversion and add 30%!?

Posted by julias
Alright but why 30%?

Posted by julias
Here is the news we have all been waiting for mobilenewscwp.co.uk have announced

The Apple iPad will be available from £429 when it is released in the UK on May 28, with the most expensive model costing £699.
