A potent combination of slim UMTS phone and high performance media player, the W960 Walkman® phone packs enough punch for up to 8,000 songs* and includes a Walkman™ player for finger-touch navigation around playlists on the large screen. The 2.6” display serves as an excellent viewfinder for a 3.2 megapixel camera and as a widescreen for watching video in TV quality.

The Sony Ericsson W960 Walkman® Phone (mooi)

Store more
Up to 700* albums and PC-to-phone transfer of 1GB in less than 3 minutes

Touch and play
Navigate the latest Walkman® player with touch of a finger or stylus

Explore more
Surf the Web via Wi-Fi™ or at 3G speed and watch videos in TV quality

Music marathon
Up to 700 albums - around 8000 songs* - can be stored on the 8GB memory of the W960 Walkman® phone. Managing tracks is easy and it can transfer up to 1GB of data, including music tracks, from your PC to the phone in less than three minutes. With two stylish headsets supplied in the box (one of these the new Stereo Bluetooth™ Headset HBH-DS220) and a music listening time of up to 27 hours, you’re free to dance much more than the night away.

Visual feast
Album arts, TV shows and games. You can navigate the W960 and browse media files with the touch of a finger (or stylus). Just press the touch controls to find your way to whatever type of entertainment you need. If video is your choice, the phone supports video playback at 30 frames per second, which is the same as TV quality

Go Wireless
The 2.6” touch-sensitive display is great for Web browsing. Hook up to the Web using the 3G network or a Wi-Fi™ access point. Visit your favourite pages, buy music online, and download new programmes to make the W960 truly yours.

Performance photos
To catch the fun, the W960 Walkman® phone boasts a 3.2 megapixel camera within its 16mm frame. Auto focus makes your photos sharper, and with picture messaging or email you can share them instantly. Another way to spread the word – or photos – is to post them on your own blog site.

Sort it out
As with the W910 Walkman® phone, you can organize all of your content for the W960 using Media Manager PRO, a PC programme for optimizing music, photos and videos to be used on your phone.

Wise up
As with earlier Walkman® phones, the W960 incorporates TrackID™ music recognition software. This lets you record a clip of a song on your phone and find out instantly the name of the artist, track and album. Handy for those moments when you hear a song you like, but do not know who sings it.

On the W960 (and W910) this feature has been taken to the next level. You can now receive detailed information about the song identified – the background of the artists and the album. New ways to search have been added in, other than just by capturing an audio clip. If you know a bands name and not much else, for example, you can text search to find out more. Search by artist, title, album or lyrics.

Listen up
The W960 Walkman® phone really is the centrepiece of your music listening life, which is why both a stereo portable handsfree and a Stereo Bluetooth™ headset for music streaming are included with the phone. When you want more, the new Street-style Portable Handsfree HPM-83 adds urban style to the W960. Its flexible neckband gives a secure fit and wraps behind the head, so as not to get in the way if you’re running or at the gym. If you want to share your music library with friends, the Bluetooth™ Music Receiver MBR-100 plugs into your home stereo and lets you stream tracks directly from the phone to your stereo’s speakers. Why keep it to yourself?

Nicklas Sivander, Product Manager for the W960 Walkman® phone, Sony Ericsson, sums it up: “You couldn’t ask for a better music mix of high performance media player and intuitive phone. The touchscreen is complemented by a regular keyboard and the phone itself is amplified by the Media Manager programme and the many music accessories. The days of taking an MP3 player, a camera and a phone with you when you leave the house are definitely over.”

i was just thinking are these gunna b annonced After i read this post in the anoncments bit lol about gracnote

Posted by goldenface
It sounds good already. 8GB of flash is quite large so a good intelligent search function is great.

Posted by Aware
I need to dissappear for approx 5 hours, it seems... ...back when there are some piccies!

Posted by baika
I think it will smart phone like W950 with 3.2 camera.

Posted by Aware
Ok...

....anyone fancy an educated guess on a release schedule(sometime Q4 for me)??

Posted by goldenface
@Aware.

Well 4 months seems a long time if October is the release date as some have said. I think it will be closer.

The P1i is already available on a Norwegian site for over 600 euros and that was only announced in May - last month.

I would guess August early September. I can't think of any reason why it would be delayed like the P990i was.

....Shinobu sales, maybe?? Not forgetting P1i itself, these handsets could be considered alomst combined in W960....not that I wouldn't like to see it available sooner, it's just SE seem very 'structured' in their product timetable this year!

Posted by ares
IMHO most of these devices are ready for release, just need some tuning...SE has been preparing this for a really long time. I think they will be quickly out in the market

Posted by dr_thug
I hope next gen phones comes with remote in the earphone.
Taking out the phone from the pocket to change track or changing volume is cumbersome.Would like to see a lcd screen in it too.

Posted by mrmilo69
I'd like to see a nice LCD on the headset too, and definitely some new bluetooth headsets to come with it. Maybe some added goodies if you connect the watch and the headset to the phone.

It looks like this will be the new flagship phone

For my part I thinks it is not the Future Walkman Flagship because if it is the W950i successor the price must be too expensive to be a mass market phone.

Posted by masseur
Flagship models always are high end-high price

Posted by Yanosh94
The K800i was not too expensive at its exit ,450euro it is reasonable for a mass market , 650 euros (W950i) it is too expensive

Posted by rosco911
This might be what i`ve been waiting for ages! didnt wanna get a new cell, cuz i love my w900, and then i wanted to get a w950, but it didnt have a cam, and im a picture whore lol....
It might be time, immma get a free nokia 6300 with my carght away, that will help me get the money for whatever is that SE will announce today! (well as long as its worth it lol)

I bet this is gonna cost half the world.

Posted by leerichards
Think the W960i might be for me (depending on how much it costs of course!). I've always had the cybershot phones previously, but I'm looking for a larger screen and WiFi next time. Just a shame they couldn't squeeze a 5MP camera on this one. Oh well, maybe that will come in time for my late 2008 / 2009 upgrade

Lee

Posted by Paul_s
I'd really love the w960i, but, just as last year, it's going to come out months after my upgrade which is in a week or two.... I can't hold on til nearly christmas for it

I'm thinking about getting the P1i when it's released, then maybe the w960i next summer or something.... Or maybe selling the P1i at Christmas to fund the w960i...

Posted by ares
I don´t see UIQ 3.1 refered on the official page...that is BS for me...it won´t make sense

Even on AAS they don´t refer it

Do uknow the difference in real life experience between hsdpa and umts?! It's so liitle!!! this is not comparing gprs and umts! So I think thats not a big stuff! The phone is brilliant although the lacks of hsdpa!! For me it's brilliant! It's all I need in one - walkman + symbian uiq 3.1(+all great apps & etc stuffs around the OS) +wi-fi+bluetooth stereo headset and bluetooth hands-free in-box+8gb in-phone memory+great desighn/small sizes+nice touch screen(touch scren is very important for OS based machines, only because of this main minus I dont like N95..)+many others!

So, be happy, or at least I'm happy watching what SE did in this model:P

Cheers

Sure, it's only ~3Mbit vs ~350kbit... Really nothing.
