It will be interesting to see how the W580i slots in with the rest of the Walkman phones, the W880i seems to be doing well still and will probably do well in the run up to christmas too. They've quite a lot of phones on the go.

The K610i is still heavily promoted by 3UK. The W850i seems to have staying power too and don't forget, all the contract phones will trickle down to the PAYG sector soon, which is looking a bit unrepresented right now.

Well it looks like the W580i is bombing up the contract charts however, it has been at the expense of both the W850i and W810i both of which have dropped out of the top twenty for the 1st time. It will be interesting to see if it can knock the U600 off its perch.

I think I'm gonna throw a party if the W580i gets to No1, the U600 has been there far too long, that spot belongs to SE

Good mix of SE phones which all seem to be holding their place well. The N95 holding up well too.

Posted by bart
enjoy it SE, next years sales will start to drop.

Posted by mustafabay
SE is probably going to do even better yet. The new UI is a good idea imho and its done to be complient with the Java platform. And the SEs are going to be the best Java phones espesially with multitasking. I didn't think the W580 would be that good but then the U600 has been on top for too long indeed. Now let's see where the W910 will go when it comes out.

Posted by goldenface
Yeah, there has been great demand for the W580i. When is the W910i expected?

Posted by bart
the new UI is bassed on the UI of the other brands, that UI is for the stupid people, who needs a seperate "answer" and "don't answer" button.

Posted by goldenface
Well I haven't checked out the new UI yet; the call and end buttons do seem a step back but we'll have to wait and see.

Posted by bart
i think even a sony fan who loved the jogdial will find that the call and end buttons are usless, unlike the yes and no buttons on the old ericssons, they where logical because they also selected things and entered the menu.

Posted by m.h Croatia
Man, that U600 is so long on no.1 spot and it totally deserved that place IMO. But, we need a new top-seller. It seems that w580 will be the next one.

Posted by bart
why is the top being led by less advanced phones or crappy phones?

Good going but the topispot is stil eluding them.

Poor moto has one phone in both charts. Samsung needs to work harder for its 10 % market share this Christmas too.

Apparently the W580i is flying out because of the free Wii on £35/ month contracts from CPW.

What's an Emblaze Lobster? Is it an edible phone?

my god i never new the UK was so full of dumb people. samsung makes bad phones.

Posted by goldenface

Samsung have only half the number of phones in the chart altogether.

Posted by bart
still to many, and that U600 is ranked way to high.

Posted by goldenface
Well Samsung's UK market share atm must be half that of

It has only six phones in the top 40, a lot of work to be done if it is to clinch that 10% market share before Christmas.

While this nr. is certainly entertaining to the fans, I find the 'profit margin per nr. of handsets sold' far more meaningfull! For example, if Nokia sale 10 N95 devices and make 2000 euro profit, are better of then Samsung, selling 15 devices and making 1500 euro! Samsung might be nr.1 but that's only half the story

1 phone i'm missing in the list, and thats the P1i
and i don't really understand why samsung now has the nr 1 & 2 position.

Posted by ScottMcG
the P1i won't be in the top 15 i don't think, it just doesn't have a large enough market and isn't aswell know as other new smartphones like N95 for example.

Posted by mario2004
Is interesting to see the N95 so high. With such a expensive device and very high profit margin, Nokia must be making a killing - a thing which has been picked up by the investors (check nokia's share value increase after the n95 marked debut). Here in South Africa the N95 still costs close to 1000usd !

"If you buy samsung, then you should be locked up for being a stupid person"

If you don't mind bart, I'd like to borrow it and transform it a bit- if you buy samung, then you should be hanged for helping crap get the number one spot.

This has become a nightmare that doesn't seem like it's going to end anytime soon.

Ooh So much hatred over a phone you guys need to chillout!
the G600 looks good for free I wouldn't pay £200+ for it though..

sadley it's not got 3G..

it makes a good back-up phone though

Posted by bart
what good is something that you get from free when you can get other stuff that is better. and its not just 1 phone, its the entire brand that sucks

you may me right, locking people up costs money, beter to hang them, less expences.

strange that the nr 3 motorola only has 2 phones in the contract list and 1 in the pay & go list. i wonder where they get their sales.

Posted by Miss UK
yeah but hasn't got the K850i out yet Bart I dislike it anyway..
the G600 for me would be a backup ive got my ultimate phone a Nokia I think you would dis-approve but it's upto me which I prefer to use at the end of the day

the G600 is abit over everything, but the only thing that works well is that fact that you can call and send text messages with.

Posted by Dups!
I bet if we could research who buys samsung we could find that it's mostly women. It's a fact that guys are more into what's inside than on the outside. Samsungs are mostly one design - similar looking sliders! Where's the design innovation there?

That's it! I'm not dropping in here anymore until the damn samsungs are dethroned. They shouldn't be in there.

Posted by mario2004
Hey,don't be a chicken.Samsung are doing well because they have a 'healthy' strategy in place. They deserve to be up there.I believe they are now in second place overall with Motorola,SE,LG and Alcatel close by. (All with less then 5% difference in market share overall). Actually anyone could be second With Nokia extendinq their lead at the top,I expect this situation to remain for quite some time - actually some very looong time.

Unfortunately!

Do you think SE should just roll out monotonous slider after monotonous slider? That strategy seems to be working....

now with the SE Q3 results out you can see that i was right, sales where less high then expected.
samsung will probably have great results. man their are alot of stupid people nice up the world.

Posted by goldenface
Yeah, but bear in mind SE are yet to bring out the big guns yet, K850i, W910i. There will be some changes to the running order in the next few weeks.

Posted by bart
bringing out the guns when the fight is half way?
to many competitors, new samsung, LG's and motorol's that people are crazy about while they just suck, also some new nokia's.
and that awfull iphone thats going to hit europe like the plague.

Motorola is slowly turning into the new SE.

Posted by mario2004
@Bart, I totaly agree with you. And you know what, SE just sold half of UIQ to Moto !?!?! W.T.F., didn't SE just buy UIQ in Feb. this year? Did they need 8 or so months just to realise 'it does not work that way' Even more, there is a rumor, SE is looking left and right and we may see a WM6 SE device next year. One thing is for sure - SE will fight the bottom end with Alcatel and the rest. This year they even got Sagem on their side - that much for hi spec/quality cells Market sare went slightly down (About .25%) The 10% seems outright impossible this year. They must whatch out for LG
