Differences between the Nokia 8850 and 8855?

I've just acquired a Nokia 8855, which I believe was never officially released in the UK and are quite rare here.

Now, the phone needs a new facia, and I'm struggling to find one - I can only find a cheapo non-genuine one shipping from Australia or a 'genuine' one costing over £30 delivered from China!

I'm wondering if I can fit it with an 8850 facia, it looks very similar, except perhaps a few slight key shape differences. Question is, would one fit it OK?

Also, what are the differences between the two mobiles? From what I can gather, the 8855 has GPRS capabilities whilst the 8850 doesn't. Is that right, and are there any other differences?

Sammy, I had 8850 about 4/5 years ago and at that time there was another model which was named 8890 and both these phones were similar, exactly the same in their looks. One might had been dual band the other Tri-band thats the only difference I can think of right now, but no other physical difference in their shape..

So comparing those two with the picture of 8855 it seems that this phone is from the same family and Im quite sure the housing of the other two willl fit the 8855...

I had gifted my 8850 to a friend, and I did regret it later on as it was one of the slickiest phones of that time and in this day and age I still would love to walk around with that phone in my hand a beautiful piece..

I've not yet held an 8800 in my hands, which im sure is the greatest version of that 88 series

im the man for this question!!

i've got both..

8855 has wap basically.. via csd.. not GRPS!
8855 also has the coolest screensaver that analogue clock is wicked|!

and no an 8850 housing will not fit. i do however have an oem 8855 housing lying around somewhere...

so you maybe in luck sammy boy!!

great stuff fatreg, how much do you want for it?

yes, that analogue clock screensaver's great! this phone should be fully working with a new facia. btw, there's a small button on the top right of the side of the phone, what's this for? should the slide mechanism push down when this button's pressed, a la 7110? if so, i suspect my 8855 is missing a spring or component!

Ah right, so it releases the battery cover? It probably doesn't work on mine as there's a clip holding the aerial cover down missing, probably why it doesn't work, hopefully it will do with a new facia!
