Could O2 UK users who have sucesfully updated their phones let me know what their CDAs are. I am finding it strange that a couple of people have claimed a succesful update with an O2 UK phone, which should be CDA102511/41. CDA information can be retrieved from the Service Menu - see the first post for details.

last time I checked (not too long ago) there still wasn't an update from the first firmware for Orange UK (Or Orange France, I'm not sure what I'm on), tempted to use WOTAN.......

I updated my '3' K800i phone on Wotan to the latest firmware but since doing so can't do some things on 3 because of missing certificates that obviously 3 put on the phones themselves.

Does anyone know how I can get these certificates or reflash back to '3' brnaded firmware. Can't download any games from Planet 3, opertaion failed message is received but I am still charged for the privledge. This is the same for things like MSN etc.

Had a look at certificates on my phone before and after and there are certidicates definetly missing, any help appreciated.

I have a Bond K800i from Hong Kong. All Bond themes were kept when I upgraded to GB firmware with SEUS.

My reception on T-Mobile USA in Los Angeles, CA has also been improved to five bars.

What I know PS is Packet Service, meaning GPRS, which charges you for each kilobyte you use, while CS is Circuit Switched, meaning it charges for how long you use internet. PS is using IP address while CS dial up number. PS is faster than CS and in some cases is cheaper. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Ok thank u, let's say we choose PS, which one is faster?? the one u r on gsm networks only or the other one which u have gsm and 3g networks???

If you have activated 3g for your sim card, always use 2g and 3g. If not choose 2g so the phone will not try to find 3g signal and waste batt power. When available, 3g is faster than plain gprs. Check the 3g icon next to signal strength icon. If it is there then you get 3g signal.

Hi, I tried to upgrade my EROM via Wotanserver just now. The credits left are still 10, and Wotan detected my phone CID 51 just fine...it said that my EROM is way too old...I followed the instruction, pressing 2 and 5 together...and it started to update mine. Yet, it said that EROM: Upgrade header failed or something. It showed FAILED. Have tried 10 times with the same result. Can anyone help? I did so because my mate offered me his Wotan Credits...what's wrong? Is it because of CID 51 EROM?

Anyway, my phone's EROM is still R3A011...

How can i upgrade the CID? What's so great upgrading your CID and what is it for? How can i know which CID version i have on my phone?

Just updated via SEUS and have the same problem with the backlight not coming back on when pressing keys.

In addition to this, when viewing photos, the 3mp symbol and zoom level icon are floating in the middle of the picture

Generic orange firmware, the one with G in it

EDIT: the led/illumination test doesn't work. When you switch the phone on it works, but when the light switches off, it doesn't come back on again. flash works though

EDIT2: When it fades out, it switches off. Leave it for a bit and it comes back on, but not at full intensity, shows the screensaver then switches off again. This is straaaange

OK, I finally cancel updating my EROM via a mate's Wotan account. I don't want to ruin my phone. The only reason why I tried it was just he had many credits left--and he said it was free just to update EROM, but NOT to flash. I ran SEUS again just now to check whether my K800i was still recognised by SEUS after my failed attempt. Alhamdulillah, all is just fine. I didn't click Continue Anyway option..what's for?
To others with 67% update status, then it went back to START, I'm afraid to say that SEUS only updated yours partially. The failure of keypad light shows that some f/w files are just missing. Try to fix it in SE Service Centre. Good luck.

this firmware is great

looks like it could be a problem with the orange firmware itself (67% failure, light problem, on orange too) i.e. someone hasnt put it on SEUS properly

For all those who question WOTAN SERVER....or....SEUS
Had an unfortunate experience with FW R1ED001 where it locks you out of GAMES/APPLICATIONS folder saying "OPERATION FAILED". Tried updating via SEUS but besides updating FW to R1GB001 SEUS also changed my phone to CID51 from CID49 without any warning of that change, before starting upgrade.
And of course, SEUS didn't resolve "OPERATION FAILED" message with that update. Contacting directly SE technical department didnot help either since they had no knowledge of such an issue so:

1.NO they don't spend time reading these forums
2.they are full of sh** saying that they don't know of common bugs in FW
3.Use SEUS update service only IF you really have to(there won't ever be a major UPGRADE of FW that will make huge difference in phone performance)
4.Don't bother sending phone for repair Unless it's free of ALL charges (shipping and labour)
Solution:
1.Purchase wotanserver credit (it will cost you less than shipping phone to SE service center and down time while your phone is being fixed)
2.Download LATEST client from them BEFORE you start anything
3.Remove SIM and MEMORY STICK + CHARGE THAT BATTERY!
4.DON'T use your computer for anything else while you're flashing the phone (flashing takes no longer than 10minutes!!)
5.Change Language pack as you want but leave other settings at DEFAULT in wotan client program(example:Do you really need that 0min call timer?)
6.Observe messages displayed in wotan client for any errors
7.DON'T TOUCH anything untill it says ==FINISHED OK==

In my case it was first time I used their service today, and everything went smooth.
1.Updated phone with LATEST FW R1GB001
2.Changed language pack
3.Fixed "OPERATION FAILED" message
4.Flashing took 6min and 11 seconds
5.WAP and MMS settings were dowloaded as soon as I powered phone up

P.S. DONT UPGRADE EROM ON YOUR OWN UNLESS YOU TALKED TO SOMEONE WHO KNOWS ABOUT THAT STUFF. BE SMART,NOT A FOOL!

yeap... i've been o service centre... They told me that "Flash memory has broken" and the phone will not accept anything to be changed(MAIN and FS)... so... they'll gonna change the phone for free(object of warranty) and they'll gonna sent it to factory...

so... i'll get a new K800i

Found a new bug on R1GB001: when I answer a call and hang up afterwards, the keylight stays off! To fix this you will have to put the keys on to lock and the lights are fixed. Very irritating...

Sorry no O2 or any Carrier specific FW. All those are non-branded firmware files.

I'm having the exact same problem, I got someone to ring me to see if the phone screen would light up but it doesn't, making it very hard to see who's phoning >_>

Is there a way to use the generic firmware on an orange-locked phone or will it break it? Should I just wait for a fix?

Other finding on R1GB001:
Very very occassionaly the phone is unable to display the 'green balls of volume' when you press the volume key on the right side of the phone. When you are playing music via Media Player or File Manager, then trying to turn up or down the volume, the phone works normal as intended, BUT very very occassionally fails to display the volume status. It has happened twice on my phone. The only solution to get it back is by restarting the phone. I still don't know how to reproduce this malfunction intentionally, as it is highly intermittent. For most days, this never happens at all.

i get that too sometimes, i had this issue with both R1EG001 and the new firmware. All i do is to go back to the standby screen by holding ther back key down and then locking and unlocking the keypad. That solves the problem for me...

I updated my phone to R1GB001 today using SEUS. All went smoothly . The games and applications folders work fine although when i start an application/game for the first time following the update, i think the app reinstalls itself before starting. I think this could be bcos of the java update from v7.1 to 7.2.

R1GB001 solved this problem.

So, the intermittant missing volume indicator is confirmed. I experienced it randomly, many times, and suddenly it comes back by itself some time later or by rebooting the phone.

> So, the intermittant missing volume indicator is confirmed

I think I have noticed that on previous firmwares too. I don't believe that it is a new bug in R1GB, although I have to say that I haven't added it to the first post despite seeing it myself . Can anyone remember when they first noticed this issue?

Posted by altemyr
I just installed R1GB001 over the 3G network, it took about 10 minutes in all. So far, I haven't foticed any problems, but on the other hand, I haven't noticed any significant improvements either. One difference is, that the selected icon on the "desktop" is now kind of flashing, which is somewhat irritating compared to the prevous behaviour, when it was only slightly enlarged and with the highlight image behind it.

I tried it again today and it wrote the firmware 100%, I turned the phone on and it said 'please wait' for about 7 seconds and now the lighting problems are fixed

I noticed on the SEUS it downloaded a new update, well it got to 2% downloaded before starting to flash, instead of staying at 0%, so try again today maybe they sorted it out

Pressing buttons makes the screen bright again! Yay!

I made the upgrade with the M2 card installed, (I read the notes about problems with apps and games on the M2 card in this thread after I made the upgrade) and those games and programs that did function before the upgrade still functions, but the ones that didn't function before still do not function. I can't get Opera Mini 3.0 to work, for example, and was hoping that the fw upgrade should fix that problem. I have even made a master reset of the phone with no difference.

Just retried updating, all is now well.

It did linger on 94% for a long time, but then jumped to 100%

Someone mustn't have but it on SEUS properly first time round

i removed my m2 stick before updating as well but all my apps were installed on the phone memory so im not sure whether that solves anything....

@mwarner - i think i first saw the volume indicator bug on R1ED001.

Is it really a bug and not a feature??

Posted by aremaboy
It's not a BIG bug, but a little bit annoying. You can do the trick of putting the Background and Pop Up Image of the same color or either simply importing an image to Pop Up. But, this didn't occur in previous f/w. I have redesigned my themes by inserting image in Pop Up and all is back to normal.

Here's another missing functionality in the new firmware R1GB001.
If you want to access the internet from your K800i via your PC using PAN as in ( http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=124714&start=61 ), forget it with new firmware. This firmware doesn't create the bluetooth data account needed for this functionality. This was OK on R1ED001. If you created this account earlier, then make sure you don't delete it ever (like I stupidly did).

Has anyone managed to downgrade the firmware?

I'm quite sure it was there before, if you mean the one with the digits 1-9 where each slot in use for speed dial is replaced by that contact's image.

Tried Wotan again, it said ERROR: debug file info is gone or something. I give up! Wotan couldn't upgrade its client version.
BTW, I ran SEUS again to update my girlfriend's K800i just now. I removed her M2 and chose United Kingdom as the location, although we are in Indonesia. I did it as Indonesia was stuck at Finalising stage all the time. It worked just fine afterwards. No non-working games and applications. SEUS was still the same--just downloaded 28% file, then updating to phone up to 50%, and abruptly became 100%.

Posted by capuera
Please help me!

I installed SEUS on my computer but I think I have to change some of my browser settings or something like that because my SEUS won't connect to the server.

Does anybody knows why and what changes to make?

Posted by hanugro
Well, kulan said that no loader for CID51 EROM is exist yet (as of today) so those who already update using SEUS (EROM CID51) must wait a while before able to fix/update EROM. However ppl can still change language/update firmware with current client even using EROM CID51.

So to summarize in short: CAN NOT update/write EROM if EROM CID is 51 but CAN flash firmware even EROM CID is 51. Hope that is clear.

Posted by aremaboy
Aha, that's it. Never mind. Have no problem with EROM. No freezing, No WS0D..besides, my friend's Wotan credits have been used up. No more Wotan...no problem.

Wow so fast 10 credit in just few days. Are your friend doing that for client?

Posted by aremaboy
Uups..mistyped. I didn't notice that correctly. Not 10. Did I say 10? Upps..it was only 3. My eyes..hehe..I did try 10 times to update my EROM but consistently failed. So, it was a kinda mix up, 10 and 10..ah, my mistake.

Anyway, why did SE change EROM CID to 51 which makes it impossible to update to R3A016? SE may be happy to see many end-users updating their EROM via 3rd party clients by themselves, not involving SE at all, which means SE can save time and energy fixing broken phones...isn't SE supposed to be benefited from the ease of updating EROM? Is this EROM CID 51 is intended to make K800i R3A011 equal to R3A016? You know, not all end users are able to perform EROM upgrade by Wotan or DVT or Kulan, so SE formulates this CID change to fix the problem? There must be something 'deep' with this EROM CID 51 change.
Besides, the decision to upgrade EROM to R3A016 is not standard. In UK, yes, it's the solution. But here in Indonesia, SESC said: 'what are you talking about? What is it for? How did you come up with such an idea? Bla. Bla. Bla.' In my opinion, we have known 'too deep' about what 'we shouldn't have known', which then makes us guess blindly. We are so 'anxious' discussing EROM, CID and other technical things, while SE only says: 'Come on people, as long as the phone works OK, don't worry. Don't ask too much. Enjoy our products.'
Anyway, has SE publicly and officially released any info about this EROM jitters before?
If I'm not mistaken, this EROM issue was only 'limitedly' revealed first in SE bulletin only for technicians in UK. Our fellow darrengf was the early poster of it, right? If this is a standard and official service, then SE will make a kinda SE EROM Upgrade Service (SEEUS) similar to Wotan which only takes less than a minute to do. Why is it a difficult thing for SE? Just officially releases it and people will happily pressing 2 and 5 together to make the phone work better..
So, I believe this EROM CID 51 has something deep..
Please, correct me if I'm wrong..

Does somebody know why the K800i has no Mega Bass?

I have downloaded the K800i whitepapers from Sony Ericsson Developer's World... The whitepapers say that the K800i is able to play MPEG4 files encoded with the H264 encoder, but when I encode such a video with H264 codec (video) and AAC codec (sound) the mobile is unable to play these files... The same with WMV... In the whitepapers I read an article that K800i's are able to play them too, but I don't get it running... But I can listen to WMA files on my K800i, can somebody tell me why I am not able to play these 2 video formats?

Posted by aremaboy
Ah, even SE can't playback some of their own original content available and said to match K800i..Jangler.mp3, AlienNoise.mp3 and more. Check SE Fun&Downloads section. They are there, but fail to play..so if K800i can't perform what it was specified in the White Paper, don't be surprised, my friend! Just enjoy the phone.
