They say google earth is a threat to national/international security in the sense that anybody can get detailed satellite images of key military/political institutions.
IMO google earth may just be the next coolest thing on the net.

Has anyone actually found a secret military installation using Google Earth?

The images are no doubt civilian images, which means they will not be in real time so that troops placements, etc cannot be tracked. Also the resolution of the images is at civilian levels, you will notice that you can only zoom into a certain extent outside of the major cities. Military satellites can read a car number plate and possibly the time on your watch.

Posted by Davo_169

Download WorldWind from NASA then, only area 51 is blocked if I remember right + what you download you can have it on your harddrive, no streaming but needs alot of Gb (unless you put a limit).

Posted by blayv
Those shots are very old. E.g. Shots of Belgrade are at least 2 years old. Is this the same with world wind?

Posted by batesie
you can d/l it here....

pisses me off that they spelled the country I've liven in for so long wrong.
Named the Gulf after it even though it's not.
Didn't even INCLUDE MY country, spelled my capital wrong etc..
PLUS it seems like the photo of my country was 20 million years old, it has nothing but sand... and a few huts.
Where's the largest mall in the Middle East?
Where is the beautifully lit Corneche, where is pyramid theatre building, where is anything to be honest.

Posted by EastCoastStar
i noticed that too (not about your particular area) but about my area, the pictures are over a year old. they are before last years hurricane damage. maybe its only like this in the free version though, so we will buy the better version, ya know?

but them not spelling your capital and all right is no excuse... Thats kind of weird that they did that.
