Vodaphone disable the mp3 ringtone feature on their phones.
You need to get it flashed with unbranded/SE firmware to get rid off the Vodacrap restrictions.
There is also a long winded work-around by using software to make the mp3 appear to be a commercial, protected file but the underlying problem is the Voda f/w

Hej hej!
My tip is not to get a Voda-phone:P
But since it's already to late for you you should look for a thread (don't know the link) which explaines how to have mp3 ringtones on a Voda-phone (lovely joke:P). Search the Esato forum.
Good luck!
Lycka till!
Cheers!

Also applies to S700, V800 & F500.
The ultimate solution is indeed to never buy from Voda.

You can use MP3 files as ringtones. However, if your phone is Vodafone customized, you can only use DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected content. MP3 files downloaded from Internet are usually not DRM protected and can therefore not be used in a Vodafone customized phone.

Vodafone's decision to restrict the use of unprotected audio >files as ringtones is designed to protect our customers from inadvertent >copyright infringement, and to protect our relationships within the >music industry. This is explained in the user guide as follows: "If you want to use an MP3 file as a ringtone, you can only use some of the copyright-protected files specifically designed as ringtones. Please consult your network operator for more information".
