Hello all,

I dont know whether it has already discussed or not, because the search function doesnt work on html light for some reason.

Well anyways, is it possible to make a small java program that would start-up on sms arrival and play a tone different from predefined ones. The other day i was browsing the permissions menu in apps folder on my k500 and was struck by this idea

Actually it would ask at least once for permission, but i think that wouldnt be too much trouble if we get customizable tones

That certainly is not possible I'm afraid. Java apps on SE phones cannot interface with the file system in that way.

You can use SETOOL to change tones on the K series. They only support polyphonic SMS tones though!

Yes i understand that java programs cannot interact with other files on the phone, but it should be possible to include a few midi files inside the program. For sms there is no need of long tones, so the resulting jar file shouldnt be very large and should load quite quickly.

For me setool is not an option, because i dont have usb cable and wont be able to get the original one anyway, here in Rep. Of Georgia

Greets...

There is no way the Java applet would be able to tell when an SMS has arrived and as far as I know there is no API for that.

The phone simply wasn't designed that way. You'd need either a Symbian or Windows Mobile phone for that.

Sorry for being so persistent, but in the permissions menu under More/Permissions (in the applications folder) pressing the Info button (right soft key) on item named "Automatic start" reads the following text:

Quote:
Change settings to restrict or allow access to register to autostart the appl., triggered by alarm or text msg alers.
UnQuote

Can it mean something else rather than what I thought?

because you are using html lite, which doesn;t add the tags but adds your regular signature to your posts.

I've no idea what that quote means because I don;t recall seeing anything like that on my phone, but could be that the automatic starting of an application (autostart) is accompanied by an alarm sound or sms alert sound... so you know it's running?

I could be wrong of course....

hmm..

@Vlammetje @govigov
No no, I think anyway that I was meant to start the app at sms arrival. Are there any SE people on this forum that can confirm or deny this?

Maybe this is the K series specific API and not general MIDP API?

Thanks all for attention anyway... I will try to search the internet for this...
