Hi Guys,
Thought we could use this thread to keep track of the things that are happening with this great new firmware.
Differences I've noticed:
+ When on Power save, resuming from blank screen, Keypad fades
back on, giving a great looking smart effect.
+ My operator logo is much larger in Size.
+ Themes are displayed differently, my flo, and blub themes look
different to what they did with R2C.
+ My Screensaver images are rescaled to fit the screen, so no bars
at top or bottom etc.
Please add more that you know of, this is just my short list of a few, less mentioned improvements.
Others: Speed, Phonebook, Camera f/w etc etc...

Navigating the main menu is definitely quicker, without the delay of older versions if you moved the joystick rapidly. However, my phone has a noticeable delay when coming out of standby and there seems to be a general lag when opening new menu screens, whereas it used to be pretty much instant with R2L. I'm sure this has only started happening since doing a master reset. |

There's already a number of threads discussing this firmware, however, here is the official list of improvements from SonyEricsson:
Made WAP provisioning data account implementation work with QUALITY_OF_SERVICE_SUPPORT enabled.
AMR AT commands AT+ACSDL, AT+ACSUL, AT+THRES have been implemented.
The implementation of AT+CIF and AT+CIR have also been made.
Support of Apple iTunes format .m4a (=.mp4) including speech encoding format AAC
If a non-scrolling text on standby screen doesn't fit in the specified field and is normally drawn using bold font, the used font will change to regular style. If that doesn't work the font will be changed to a smaller font.
Java: The Exit problem in the Threaded application is recorrected.
Changed general layout.
Changed used icon file.
Removed status bar from lists and applications.
Terminate video calls when Handsfree is disconnected and user does not wish to retrieve call in phone
AT+CHLD=0 returned error during first incoming call. This has now been corrected.
AT+CHLD=1X AT+CHLD=2X always affected the first call that was answered. This has been corrected also.
Display Smileys in MMS/Browser.
Error in WAP functionality, it was not possible to dial out any WTAI number which beginning with "#", like "#9322".

This is now corrected and it is now possible to dial out any WTAI number which beginning with "#"
Stopwatch can now be started and stopped whenever, it does not go into backlight of mode or sleep mode. Stopwatch goes into low mode where it can be started and stopped with just one key press.
If no no volume keys, the joystick should be connected to volume change when a call is setup.
The problem with disturbing noises in HCA-20 (car HF) is now corrected
There was no popup in second display when receiving voicemail notification. Corrected.
A New Constructor with an Extra Parameter is added to MenuItem.
The extra parameter allows the caller to set the TextFormat of the MenuItem object.
The image handler doesn’t handle the rendering of native image formats such as SVG. However, it should know that the format exists.
Imagehandler_GetImageType should check with the image decoder interface to see if the image format is supported there. Corrected.
Wrong colour depth is given when encoding rotated images. Check the colour depth for the target format and use that.
The phone now returns to the task list correctly, it is now possible to press any key directly after pressing back when the information "Task saved" is shown.
Before the phone didn't react on the first three key presses.
The phone now returns to the task list after view -> edit on a task. Before the phone returned to the view of the task after editing it.
It was not possible to unmark a phone number in shorter SMS. Corrected.
Added support for alignment using lower case letters in WML tables (l, c, r).
Rename of filename containing non ASCII characters didn't work.
E.g in Shortcuts menu each item is displayed two rows.
Due to size limitations in some products it’s desirable to display the highlighted item only in two row format.
Wallpaper could not be changed when memory was full. This is corrected.
Date default setting must be 01-01-04 (DD-MM-YY), not 01-01-00. Corrected.
Multiletter search box is now aligned properly in the upper left corner. This is the box that is shown when searching for a name in Phonebook.
UI: Date formats with month name written in text (e.g. 01-Aug-04) will now be completely visible in standby. Before this correction month names with low characters were cut in the lower part, thus not completely visible.
Noises in HCA-20 car handsfree are gone
Scrolling works nice in 2row laf lists when only 2.5 elements is visible
Now the timer alert sound does not ring again after rejecting a call.
UI: The signal strength (RSSI) behavior shown on display has been changed.
The signal strength shown on the display is lowered by 1 bar at a time, except for when a strong signal is measured. If so the displayed signal is raised to 5 bars.
Template with formatted text was loosing formatting on last character. Corrected.
New functions to support CSS style on buttons have been implemented.
Turning T9 off in Code Memo had no permanent effect. Corrected.
Handle Voice Activated Dialling-settings change when Portable Handsfree is connected.
Corrected Text alignment which did not work first time you enter the page.
The browser alignment was improperly set in the layout function. Any system call for redoing the layout would reset the alignment, which is an undesired effect.
The problem was corrected by shifting the alignment setting into a function which would be triggered only by the user, not by a system call.
When having an animation as wall paper and returning to standby resulted in flashing old animation frame. This fix eliminates this behaviour.
When setting an SVG animation as wall paper, screen saver or start-up screen the play back wasn't shown in full screen. This issue is now eliminated by this fix.
Corrected: Direct Links: Settings - Icon not replaced with default icon when icon is null + more.
You can now go back without entering the required information in input fields.
Java3D / JSR-184: Image2D constructor updated to correctly adapt to any image format given. Previously there was problem with alpha and luminance formats.
SAT (SIM Application Toolkit).
Changes to handle OPA interface incompatibilities with new platform version.
UI: Some shortcuts did not work. This has been corrected.
Error message is now given when auto copy to SIM fails with a long number
Preedit box used when searching with multilettersearch now increases dynamically
CSS -wap-input-format, "nN" required user to enter exactly "n" numbers rather than up to "n". Corrected.
A multiletter search can now be cancelled by pressing rocker key up and down.
Incorrect error code was returned to the user when:
- 'Auto save on SIM' was ON
- User saved the contact with numbers
- There was not enough entries on SIM to hold all contact numbers, but at least one number was saved.
Corrected.
Adding support for new phone variant
Bookmarks sent via IR, BT or text is not received properly in K700.
Problem: It is possible to edit the from address when viewing recipients before sending an email.
Solution: Changed so it is only possible to edit to, cc, and bcc recipients.
Problem: Magic Word function is enabled within Wireless Village if user changes account.
Solution: Make sure the MS is still in idle when setup of MW is done.
When receiving status flags from IMAP4 server that an email is unread, we at the same time before set the message as non-retrieved, which was incorrect.
Unable to see any contact which has at least one number in SMS, MMS UI.
Corrected: Wrong default width for the textarea.
Before changes the default width of textarea was calculated in the wrong way. It is calculating correctly now.
Rendering of unprotected content: Correct icon is shown in edit contact. Corrected
Applications; Calendar: Various errors in the calendar have been corrected in other products and these corrections have been merged back.
Dumps during local synchronization no longer occur.
All days are now boldface in the month view when creating a long event.
Conflict is now indicated also when creating all-day events (if they occur)
Corrected wrong text coordinates calculation.
Before changes the coordinates of the text were calculated in the wrong way when the width of the text was exactly the same as screen width. They are calculating correctly now.
The Call Screening list is not sorted alphabetical.
When a or " is used in username or password in IMAP4, it should be encoded by adding an extra before every such character.
When the light setting is "always off" the backlight should not blink during alarm, timer etc. This has now been corrected.
Problem: Phone status was displayed as trash codes after language changed to Chinese.
Solution: Remove status when language changes.
When an MT call was answered, the microphone did not respond quickly enough after the user pressed "Yes". This had the effect that the calling party did not hear words the answering party said quickly. The delay was at least 900 ms, which is too long time. This has now been corrected.
Call is now placed on top in the More menu.
The priority icon is now placed before the text.
Digits are presented correctly in case of multiple lines.
The calendar now returns to the same day as it was in when the user selected reschedule.
Calculator: MS now giving correct sign when dividing by one
Silent mode icon now visible in all cases when activating silent mode
When sending attachments, separate charset and attachment file name with semicolon, this was previously missing.
Problem: The soft keys were incorrect when viewing an email from outbox
Solution: It should not be possible to view the email from outbox, however in memory manager it should. Changed to correct soft keys in memory manager.
WAP : Improved error handling
When key lock is activated the backlight will no longer be turned on when key lock popup is displayed. This will correct the problem with flashing display.
The BackgroundMode of selectable SimpleText objects is now corrected.
The BackgroundMode of the charPenTable will be overwritten by the one of the selectable SimpleText object only in the case when the TextFormat of the object is NoWrap.
Corrected. Menu More-Help under Notes don't start after paring request from Bluetooth
"Connecting" is displayed until the user takes any action to get rid of the "Connecting" dialogue. Normal behaviour is showing the dialogue "Connection failed" after a short timeout-period.
When writing an SMS and changing the input language the feedback box was not always removed. This has now been corrected.
Phone lock code and state are now reset to default values by Master Reset
Correction of translations issues.
Changed the horizontal offset when scrolling within a table. Now a table will scroll horizontally by a dynamic step not by a corrected one of 24 pixels.
The dynamic offset is set to the width if the invisible part of a cell. Before changes the table on the operator specific page used to scroll by 24 pixels (quite visible and not nice). After the changes the offset will be just 1 pixel and thus the scrolling will be invisible.
Font and grid heights changed in calendar month view. Now it's possible to use different fonts for week days and day numbers.
If resize function was used for more than one picture in a message, a memory block was freed more than once. This has now been corrected.
Problem: Phone freezes when moving the cursor right in a number WML-input field on a wap page.
Solution: Phone is no longer freezing when moving the cursor in a WML-input field on a wap page. Corrected.
Phone lock and protection code are reset after Master reset.
Voice Control application was repeating playback of voices, until the user reacted on the softkeys. This caused strange user experience, if Voice Control wasn't the focused application, since the playback wasn't stopped.
It also caused problems when ring signals or system sounds are played. Corrected.
Wrong text in pop up when trying to send large photo as MMS or Postcard
The font size is now the same in all the tabs of a contact.
The layout of image / ring tone tab is now improved.
Using MMS Settings, select an internet profile, highlight another profile and press back. The selected profile is displayed. Prior to this solution no profile name was displayed.
Sound recorder can’t handle / in filename, therefore / is now replaced with _
When the user moved down on an empty page (the page that is shown when there is no previous content in the browser), the MS crashed. This is now corrected.
Phone type icons were not in the same order in tab 3 as in tab 1 when editing contact in phonebook.
The name of a ring tone is now displayed after adding to contact, both for files and links.
Browser optimization (tables, images, texts). Before changes it took about 20 minutes to load pages like www.dmi.dk, now it takes about 1 minute.
Problem: Display light settings were mixed up. This is corrected.
This problem concerns the WAP functionality. When setting border="5" in the TABLE tag this also shall imply rules="all", i.e. rules shall be visible between the table elements. This is now corrected and the rules appear.
WAP: Handling of full file system when adding bookmark corrected
The bottom border lines of the cells in the Table object are visible now.
The bottom border line of each cell is drawn one pixel before the top border line of the next cell. Thus, the endYPosition of the Table goes up with one pixel.
When selecting ringvolume, the ringvolume will not be set, if the select/save softkey button is pressed before the ring signal is played.
Wallpaper can still not be changed to picture when memory is full but now a sign is shown telling the user that memory is full and files have to be deleted in order for the wallpaper to be changed. This is the same behaviour as in file manager.
The list symbol was sometimes broken into two lines. This is now corrected.
Volume settings should be visible in standby otherwise it’s impossible to navigate e.g. in the desktop during call.
When downloading body structure with IMAP4, check max number of attachment files, not only file name sizes.
MS was restarting when voice activated dialling were started and there were more than 47 voicetags. This is corrected so that MS can handle 50 tags.
Extra width between cells is distributing in the intelligent way now.
The width of the cells was calculating in the wrong way. It is calculating in the right way now.
Only one nitz update window will be on the screen. If a new nitz update comes the window will be updated with the new time. If pressing yes the phone will be updated and if pressing no the phone will not be updated.
Java: Make sure that java and native are in synch with fullscreenmode
The behaviour when pressing long back when permission dialog is open was strange.
It has been corrected. Now the exit dialog is closed and the permission dialog is handled with a NO, when long back is pressed.
Updated fonts&icons for MR3
Improvements made sending file that has DRM content (dcf) via BT or IR.
Camera: When taking pictures or recording video clips, sometimes under certain light conditions, the camera could give camera data with shadow strings due to a noncorrect flicker detection. Corrected.
Problem with sending contacts with a large image using IR is corrected.
Keylock didn’t get focus, because missed call box had higher priority, now it has normal.
When a Bluetooth Remote Control (HID) file is received a "Use now" is pop up. If user selects "Yes", the received files should start.
Problem: When a list contains more items than there is room for, the bottom item was partly obscured.
Solution: Increased the top offset of the list. The last item isn't drawn at all.
If certain message types are set on SIM, it was not possible to change the message type in the sms settings menu. Corrected.
WAP
Problem: A locked wap profile can be replaced with an unlocked with identical name if profile sent over the air
Solution: An error msg will be displayed if the user tries to install the new profile and the locked one will be kept.
Spaces were ignored when comparing vCard items. Corrected.
WAP: Added code for input fields that are not displayed.
SAT (SIM Application Toolkit)
Problem: For SAT setup call with redial. If user terminates the redial attempt procedure, incorrect terminal response values were sent.
Solution: Updated the terminal response values for this specific case.
It is now possible to save a contact with max length from call list.
Even when FDN was activated a PDP context was possible, only for Web. Corrected.
WAP : Stopped the possibility to go back into PlayNow
Reorganizing menu items according to operator specs
No T9 symbol is displayed when you edit a new Note, Code, Appointment, Task. Corrected.
Resizing operation was repeated to infinity. (In MMS Postcard function). Corrected.
Problem: Only the first 20 digits of a long (>20 digits) voicemail number was displayed to the user when Messages->Settings->Voicemail Number is selected. Corrected so that up to 80 digits can be displayed and saved if the SIM supports it.
The prompt user feedback about the current profile is displayed correctly when a profile is chosen or the hands free unit is attached when the phone is restarted.
The contacts with number as 'Mobile/Work/Fax/Other' can now be added to 'Groups'.
Adding hourglass for postcard client to inform user that an operation is made.
PHF not always acknowledged if already inserted at startup.
After 15-16 sec Screensaver was activated (while performing progressive downloading, watching videoclip) with no possibility to deactivate it. Corrected.
Only contacts with numbers are now shown in the lookup in the call screening list.
[Java] Serial number is formatted in correct way.
"Options" is now visible when entering the Phonebook even in phones with small displays.
The music and the animation are synchronized during the startup.
Delete contact option is now present first time user browse phonebook.
Voice activated dialling using long press on LSK. /Implemented
Vertical alignment of timer and progress when playing video needed adjustment.
The background icon has been updated.
This concerns the WAP functionality
This MR provides a solution to the following problems:
- The attribute emptyok ignored. This is now solved.
- ignored in tag. This is now solved notallowed is not ignored anylonger.
- The page www.opera.com does not work. This is also solved now.
- XHTML: There is a black edge around borders in tables. This is now solved.
Corrected: Focus is below display when adding a picture to tab 3 in edit contact and scrolling down
"Default" is now positioned correctly in phonebook more menu.
Fix for: Phone status on deactivated joystick shortcut left or right.
Added support for Java to get 8 pt font for smaller displays.
When a reminder for a recurrent event which has been synchronized from Outlook, where the first instance of the event is during daylight savings time, and the phone has been set back to standard time, and the reminder expires, the user gets the notification a number of times.
