Ok.

I had a software upgrade today for my k700 (South Africa/Vodacom)

-I read somewhere on this forum(or somewhere else) that software upgrades are free within your 1 year waranty(my phone is 2 weeks old).
-I also heard, from the vodacom people who upgraded my software, that you loose all your files/pics/vids/data when you do a software upgrade.

Ok.

So here is my story : I got charged R148 for my software upgrade, where I still had all my files/pics/vids/data on my phone when I got it back. I am sure they didn't save everything and copy it back onto the sellphone cause I told them I already backedup everything.

I dunno what my software version was before hand but the receit says (1 Adjustment 2 Version R2AE033 3 Tested OK 4 F2 Software Upgrade)

Should I go complain to get my money back or was I suppose to pay R148 for the labour or what?

Thx

There are service centers that charge for upgrades when it is requested even though there is 'nothing wrong' with the phone. That is why it was suggested in a thread, that you claim that there is something wrong (e.g. hanging) with your phone when you want it upgraded to a newer firmware.

Hmm. Thx for reply.

But one last thing, are they suppose to charge me if they didn't do anything? Cause I still had all my files on my phone.

Can you/somebody give me a way to check when the phone was last updated? cause that would solve my entire problem.

I tried the >*<<*<* procedure, but that didn't do/give me anything.

Thx

On phones (T68i and later), firmware updates 'usually' won't cause a deletion of your installed files. This fact has been posted in several threads here in Esato and other forums.

Installed files normally would be deleted when a 'Master Reset' was done before or after the upgrade was done.

If you remember the firmware version before the phone was handed over the service center and a later check would reveal that it has change to another version, then it is safe to say that firmware update was done on it.

Firmware upgrades do not delete your files. In my case only my gprs settings were deleted. I'm not sure why they charged you though, Firmware upgrades are free under warranty
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence of your attempt !!

The initial software version is printed behind the battery on the sticker. I also says the week and year it was made. Ge that is different from the one in the service menu, them the software was upgraded when you sent it in. :-)

thx for replies.

Was just confused cause the guy told me himself that all will be
deleted, but today he and you all say otherwise. He also showed
me that it was updated and that the 'total due' was charged to
Vodacare and not to me.

thx
