K700: Re-install firmware (not just upgrade it) |

"The only solution for you is to take the phone to a service centre. If you are lucky they can re-install the firmware. Otherwise they will have to send it to Sony Ericsson in order to have it fixed. There is currently no way to re-install the firmware using the Online Update service."
I wonder, is this re-installation of the firmware something that a very limited group of service centers can do? It seems that not all service centers even know that there is a possibility to re-install firmware.
My story is: I upgraded my firmware to R2L001 at a Sony Ericsson service center (Aircall Kungshörnet in Uppsala, Sweden) about two months ago. I got some bugs after the upgrade:
• The built-in games 3D Tennis, River Riders or Darts didn't start, they just said "Application Error"
• I couldn't use a background picture anymore - After going to settings, selecting "Background picture" and selecting the picture I wanted to use, the setting just reverted back to the old one, i.e. "Theme" or "No picture".
• Some of the built-in images appeared as generic icons and couldn't be accessed or deleted.
I waited for some time for a better firmware with new features to show up. Yesterday (2005-01-19) I handed the phone in to Aircall for a "total reset, reflash it totally" as it was written on the service note. Today, I went to fetch the phone. The phone was reset, yes, but it still had the R2L001 firmware. Apparently, there were something wrong with their communication with SonyEricsson, becayse they didn't even know that anything newer did exist. Well, after I showed them a mail from SE Support with a reference to the R2AE033 firmware, they contacted SE and managed to upgrade my phone to R2AE033. The new features, like phonebook search, worked fine, and the phone lock bug (having to insert a code for sim card change just because you turn on/off the phone) is fixed. BUT - the errors/bugs introduced after the R2L001 upgrade were still there.
So I tried to tell them that they had to do some kind of total reset. They didn't know what I was talking about, they said that all bugs should disappear when the firmware is upgraded. I told them that I'd read at these forums that if some files got corrupt, they weren't automatically replaced when doing a firmware update. They still didn't have a clue, so they took the phone and are going to send it to some other service center. It might take 2-3 weeks before I get it back.
If that other service center doesn't know how to re-install the phone, what should I do? Contact SE Support? | |

They should be able to get it fixed. If not then contact SE customer service. I assume your phone is under warranty so if they have fecked it up then they can buy you a new one |

Well it seems like they must have totally upgraded your phone to R2AE033, and so any bugs there are will be in that version.
You can try and upgrade the firmware yourself, its very simple and recommended by many people, visit www.setool.net for more details.
Because the platform sends bogus messages while charging, that is why!!!..But why this change of heart?..We sense a charger connected, oops, we will not shut down after all!!!..*********************** UI BASIC, HOLD YOUR HORSES

Could you clarify what you mean "totally upgraded"? I believe they've made a ordinary upgrade, and that's why the errors/bugs after the last upgrade are still there. They've made a "total reset" of the phone, but that's something I could have done myself via the phone settings and it didn't help anyway.
What I need is not a simple upgrade, but a re-install of the firmware. If I've got it right by reading these forums, it can only be done at very few places and not by these online upgrade services. I hope that the service centre my phone was sent to can fix it. |

You need to reflash both the firmware and the filesystem. If you have a DSS-20 or 25, you can flash with DaVinci. Note that you'll lose settings and contacts and messages, so write it all down beforehand. Well worth it. I just turned a K700c into a K700i using it.
Or if you have a T28 service cable, you can use setools, as our i-like-to-plug-setools-on-every-post-i-make friend gbrooks3 pointed out. |
