Use DBPowerAmp -

www.dbpoweramp.com

Convert your files to mp4, they are a bit smaller than mp3 files with the same quality most of the time and you'll also need to download the FAAC mp4 encoder from the codec page (link is available on the page i already specified)
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence of your attempt !!

SoundForge is a really good sound editor software. Unfortunately it's not free. For the sole purpose of conversion however I think it is an overkill anyway.

Some freeware software that you might also want to consider that has audio conversion capabilities are CDex and iTunes
resistance is futile.

If you have Windows Media Player 10 then you can convert any music to MP3.

Why not use Apple iTunes? It's free and converts to AAC format as preferred by the K700...especially in its latest firmware R2AE. Better quality at smaller files sizes than MP3.
