K700i, F/W update problem |

Hi all,
This is my first post, I have looked at this site a fair bit over the last year but never registered and posted because I never had any problems myself, and don't have the expertise to help anyone else (not in this field anyway).
I've got a problem with my K700i. It was purchased from O2 UK in Jul 04, it seems to be one of the 'unbranded' ones. I was able to use SEUS with my DSS25 successfully to update to the R2L firmware around Oct, Nov. When I heard of the R2AE firmware I wanted that to get the 'find in type' function of the phone book mainly although my phone was nice and stable on R2L apart from lagging when answering calls....ok now the dumb/annoying part.
I used SEUS and it went throught the motions, around 89/90% it said 'Communication Error with Device' and told me to remove the battery. I did so and the phone restarted apparently fine..I put it back in the cradle for another crack at it this time is said the phone was already up to date...so I check f/w version it says R2AE, I thought, great!
I've now noticed a bunch of problems that leave me in a world of hurt-Camera doesn't work, says '3.9 wrong version, install 3.10 or later' The service screen confirms my camera software is 3.9. Also I've got another serious bug where I go into my phone book and entries are missing, I am only able to for example SMS them by replying to an SMS I already have (in the SMS Inbox their name comes up, implying their number is not lost) then when I check the phone book later, the contact is back. Also FMA won't connect via the DSS25 anymore, it connects but instantly disconnects with an error of their being no SIM or the phone is in emergency mode.
I realise I likely have a corrupt flash, but it gets worse  ....I thought I would try and recover the phone by reflashing it again via the SEUS but now both versions of the Update service tell me my Operator doesn't allow this service (the phone definately has no O2 branding, it's SIM lock is still showing unlocked and it looks the same as it did before)...I'm so annoyed as I had a perfectly good phone before hand, I just wanted the benefit of the improved phone book mainly.
Please could someone advise on what to do to fix this thing, even if I have to buy the Terminator dongle or whatever, I'm prepared to do that, would just like some advice about exactly where I need to go, what hardware I need etc to get a good R2AE or even R2L flash back on the phone and get it fully up and running again. I would of course take it to an SE service centre if they are likely to be able to sort it out-anyone know if there is one in Peterborough, UK? I'm not so keen on ringing SE up and trying to get it sent away as when I rang them and asked about firmware in the past they were useless, I would like to either take it to a Service Centre or buy the necessary and sort it myself.

sorry to hear about your troubles... one thing you can try is MASTER RESET ALL your phone and try SE US RECOVERY MODE. I am not sure it will help, but worth a try.
Otherwise you have to go to SE Service Center or go "underground"... check www.setool.net for some more info... you basically need to do FULL FLASH (MAIN+FS with COMPLETE PHONE) to recover your phone, but bye, bye warranty. If you don't have worth to try is www.davinciteam.com as they support DSS20/25 Sync Station.

The SEUS also blocked my 2 K700i which able to do update

Thanks for the response, looking around the forum a bit more I can see lots of people are having problems with the online update service...in fact it seems pretty useless to me, I don't understand how they can manage to make the service so unreliable. My phone's really annoying me now as I have just found another bug...for some reason when in silent mode it doesn't vibrate when an SMS comes in

No, terminator dongle cannot be used. You need a T28 or Fighter USB cable. Either from here is a good choice.
Because the platform sends bogus messages while charging, that is why!!!..But why this change of heart?..We sense a charger connected, oops, we will not shut down after all!!!..*********************** UI BASIC, HOLD YOUR HORSES

Bugger....I've just bought the wrong wire! Cheers for the speedy response...I'm gonna buy the T28 cable. That Terminator dongle I just bought will be going back on Ebay! Just what is the Terminator cable used for anyway? |

Hi all,
Thought I'd tack this q onto this thread, rather than spam up the forum with a new topic...ok I have my T28 service cable and would like to use SETool...couple of questions: 1)How many 'credits' do I need to flash my phone to the R2AE firmware? 2)When I buy some credits from for example here http://www.gsm-tech.co.uk/se_tools.php do I also get emailed a login with them so I can download the firmware file from the SETool support area?
Apologies for my apparent stupidity but I have tried searching the forum, any search on Setool just comes up with loadsa unrelated stuff. Thanks |

1) You will need one credit to update to latest firmware and u can purchase them from gsbrooks rather cheap. Private message him for more info on that.
2) Once u have purchased credits, a login name and password with will be provided for all areas of the support area of SETool.
You will also need to download the SETool application and install it before u proceed. There is also a help "manual" in the support forum, take a look @ this link:

Hi guru meditation,
Looking at the software info you posted above, it seems your main firmware and customization firmware are two different versions. One is R2AE033 and the other is R2L001. Assuming you have loaded both in as R2AE033 then a master reset is definitely advised. If the software info stays as above then try re-flashing. |

I think it's because the flash on SEUS failed part way through. I tried a master reset, same problems persisted so I bought an setool credit, but unfortunately I haven't even had any luck with setool-I don't know if it's a mistake I have made or a server side error with SETool.
I downloaded the R2AE033 main firmware file and the EU1 FS image. I specified these two files in SEtool COM logger and began the process, checking that the server was up and my username and password reported back that I had 1 credit with 0 credits used. I began the flashing process when it got to the end of the flash it said this (excerpt from the log):

Basically it tried to connect to the server, bugged out saying no server found, then I ran a credit check again and it reports that I used my only credit-now my phone boots and says 'configuration error, contact service provider' I guess this is because the process never finished correctly. I'm a bit gutted, now using my backup phone, a Nokia 6510. If it was my mistake then I'm happy to buy another credit but I'd like to know where I went wrong so I don't keep buying and wasting credits! My internet connection is cable broadband and service was not interrupted at the time of the flash-I did the credit check literally the second I saw the failed error message so I know my net was up at the time.... |

What other applications did u have running that used the internet connection?
You should not have any other applications running that could interrupt the process.

Nothing-I'm running Windows XP Pro, from a clean boot, only things that could be polling the net would be whatever Windows system processes that may decide to use the net at any time, although looking at my network utilisation in Task Manager shows nada so nothing really using it.
One odd thing I have noticed is when I click 'Info' to check my credits it only seems to work every other click, ie I click 'Info' it comes back with my credit status, time taken '0 seconds' I can then click 'Info' again it will take 20s and come back saying 'bad username/password' time elapsed '20 seconds', click 'Info' again and straight away it connects and pulls up the credit info 0s elapsed...very strange.

Unless that's because there is a time out period on the server, that could explain the 'Info' button thing. |
