Well, I've finally got my K700i sitting in front of me (I had a bit of a scare this morning when after a day of charging, I turned it on and got an "Invalid SIM" message on my desktop... got that sorted out though), and I've been debating whether to upgrade from the R2L001 to R2AE033 or better. I've spent the last few hours reading up a lot of the threads on firmware upgrading, SE-US and such, and now I'm in two minds.

1. I think I've got R2L001 working just fine on my phone now, and I don't want to make the trip to Walthamstow (got the addy of the service centre up there when I called the SE helpline) and find out that they've got an older version of firmware there.

2. If they do have R2AE033, I don't know just how good R2AE033 will work on my phone. Yes, I know the battery life may improve, and a host of other bugs which may exist in R2L001 (and this is what really bugs me... no pun intended) may be removed, but I don't want to end up with a phone that's got more problems on it after the upgrade than before.

For all I know, I guess I should count myself lucky to have R2L001 on my phone, but I haven't been able to fully enjoy the feeling of having the K700i yet because I'm thinking about how much better it could be after an upgrade. I'm probably being stupid about all of this... but being new here, I thought I'd post and see what y'all thought. I've read a lot about R2L001, but I've also read a few things about R2AE003 and the versions subsequent to R2L001.

Am I just nit-picking here? Should I just settle down to adding my contacts and using my phone and running up a huge bill (as a part of my mind soothingly whispers to me)? Or should I really rack my brains, buy that return ticket to Walthamstow and get the upgrade sorted?

I'd appreciate your thoughts on the above. And if I have indeed started up a previously discussed topic, I'd sure love to see what other users have done when faced with my dilemma.

I still have r2l. But the reason i'm keeping this is because the version at my service centre has camera hound when it is on mute. I dont want that. That is the reason. Probably you too should wait out. When you are near your service centre go and upgrade. No need to solely go for the upgradation.

I've done the upgrade (I can walk to my SC tho...).

I don't think you'll see a huge improvement. If the call-answering delay really bugs you, do the upgrade. If you've seen something else on the forum that bugs you and you _know_ will be fixed, do the upgrade (do you need the multicharacter phonebook search?). If you're one of those chapsBut otherwise, I'm not sure I'd rush out to do it; it's incremental. You probably won't notice very much most of the time...

As I said in my post, I went to a service center. I did not use SEUS.

I already ungraded mine. Worth it. If your nearest service centre has RA2E033, go and give it a try, you will love your K700i more.
