I've seen many shops offering K700 with R2AA, then R2L is definitely an OLD release.

Then, why the h&ll SEUS still offers the obsolete release R2L??

Yesterday, I've decided not to buy their phone in a shop, just simply 'couse it was R2AA and I would like to have a R2AE fw... damn! (and using DaVinci or other *guaranteeless* way is out of my thoughts)..

As the subj: has anyone written an email to to ask why the SEUS is going to offer for only the oldy R2L ???

can i just ask what is wrong with r2l?
i mean i first had r1a when i bought it so i updated it to r2l and i still (after 5 months of usage) hadn't found a single bug in r2l,
so why do you even want to upgrade it? i only upgrade it when there's something wrong or if i know that it's much faster.... but even with r2l the speed satisfies me completely
anyway se should put a r2ae file, that's true, but not buying a phone because it has r2aa and not r2ae seems a little foolish to me....

you're right mmsman, there's absolutely nothing wrong with r2l........................

anyway so r2ae is fantastic, multicharacter search, better bluetooth, overall a great improvement.

I did find out from one of the more knowledgable tech persons at SE and he said the site is undergoing maintenance.

You may recall a few months ago the update service went down for a good few weeks. This was an effort to correct the problem of the corruption of firmware when using the service (they received many complaints about this) then when it came back it seemed a bit better but since using it I (and others) have experienced corrupt firmware and had to resort to using Total Multiserver to flash to R2AE. In short, the update service still does not work right!

My advice to everyone is to NOT use the update service. If you need a firmware upgrade, go to your local service centre, get it done properly.

@mmsman:

Well, AFAIK, R2L hasn't a voice autoanswer through a BT h'set (only wired) as R2AE has... and that'd be good stuff 4 me...
Then it has a multi char search capability, a longer lasting battery saving algorythm... and so on..

Since I don't need an impelling change (I've already a mobile) I'd like to have an up-to-date fw as R2AE is...
Obviously, even if a new fw is released in the next weeks, unless it has a huge improvement against the R2AE, that would still be my primary choice; just because the small improvements stated above are what I've looking for...

@Macco

I still claim it's due to the fact that the service [seems to] randomly corrupt the firmware while performing the update. Sony Ericsson refuses to take the service down (wouldn't look good), instead they keep an "old" firmware online so they wont have "too many" phones corrupted these days (since most phones at this time already have at least the R2L001 installed as they provide at that service).

Here's my original post about problem: http://www.esato.com/board/vi[....]opic=72651&start=15#post972152

I also think this is why many network providers with branded phones have left the service lately/refuses to join the service.

I completely agree with you: as far as SEUS is unstable, it'll offer R2L fw only.

That's effectively because I don't expect using the service and prefer to wait a surely stable fw (e.g. R2AE) instead of picking up the first mobile a shop offers me (with R2AA "2sec bug" fw)...

Opting for going to a SE service center and having a reliable fw upgrade is not always a fair practice; moreover I'd not know the right location (in that regard it seems the SE site lacks any info..)..

Damn..
There was a post of someone in Deceber stating exactly that he succeded (as it happens with Txxx phones..) voice answering through a BT h'set...

It's fairly strange that se continues to forget such a simple yet useful function!
