just got my k700i last dec 23, 2004 from one of the local shops here in angeles city (philippines). it came with r2aa003. this is not the latest firmware, right? question is: should i rush to the shop where i bought it and request for an upgrade to r2e (btw, is this the latest?)? is there a noticeable difference in the performance or otherwise? i've read somewhere while this will upgrade the cam driver to 3.10, menu access will somehow slow down...

Thansk all for the reply

this is my first post , forgive me if i've made some mistakes...

R2AA is the second most recent, R2AE is the most recent.

Phone will be much more stable on wap...no restarts now. It also speeds up. Battery life also improved. Dunno wat the camera software update does coz i dont see any difference in camera. And the phonebook bug has been removed. Get it upgraded as soon as possible.

Update service does not provide the latest firmware. R2L is the firmware on the update service.

It may be some time before the update service has R2AE, the update service is still quite unreliable at the moment and I advise against using it!

hey guys, would i be able to put the k700i's R2AE into my k500i? If so would that enable me to disable the camera shutter noise? If not then oh well -.-" Hehe.

Because the platform sends bogus messages while charging, that is why!!!..But why this change of heart?..We sense a charger connected, oops, we will not shut down after all!!!..*********************** UI BASIC, HOLD YOUR HORSES

I really think SE sucks big time with this update stuff!

I went out and bought the DSS-25 cradle so that I could update through the SE Update Service (SEUS). Now I find out that there has been 2 updates released since the version on SEUS!?!

Now why would SE do something like that? I'm pretty convinced that they are pleased with the number of DSS-25's they've sold to suckers like me. And apparently they don't give a damn that we still have to go to the nearest service center (which is not so near) to have it updated.

Get your act together SE, or you'll end up with a bunch of annoyed customers.

Oh yeah - and not to mention that it is impossible to see which version is being offered through SEUS.

I think not all country has the latest R2AE yet because of the phone language support. Maybe that is the reason why version R2AE033 is not on the SonyEricsson.com update service yet. Probably wait until every country has the version, then only they will upload to the server. Just my thaught.

I have just sent SE an e-mail asking for info on the update service. It probably wont do any good, the people who respond to these things probably know less than us and always try and palm you off any way possible!

I asked SE a few days ago about their update service and they said they don't when, if ever there will be any other additions to it. So guess it means R2L is there to stay.

Just got my response and they reckon the update service is undergoing maintenance. They have no idea when it will be back to normal.

My suspicions about the update service were correct. I knew they had a problem. You all may recall a few months ago the update service went down for a good few weeks. This was an effort to correct the problem of the corruption of firmware when using the service (they received many complaints about this) then when it came back it seemed a bit better but since using it I (and others) have experienced corrupt firmware and had to resort to using Total Multiserver to flash to R2AE.

My advice to everyone is to NOT use the update service. If you need a firmware upgrade, go to your local service centre, get it done properly.
