my friend had his gprs activated last week by just giving his mobile number to the smart cs operator. his number is prepaid and he has been using it for 2 years now so that means pwede gprs sa prepaid. same thing happened to my other friend who got his gprs activated yesterday and he uses prepaid talk n text.

technically, there is no reason why prepaid users can't use gprs. it just a matter of "flicking a switch" on the operator's side.

but, a customer service representative alone *cannot* activate gprs. it needs to be registered into the system, in fact you need a form to confirm your desire to have this service activated to document your request. smart is strict on this matter.

it could be an OTA bug, with which the activation is automatic. so when the system receives the SET GPRS command from 211, it does not check whether the number is prepaid or postpaid (just a hunch, not a statement).

nevertheless, to those who have it, just enjoy it.

my friend's first 4 digit mobile is 0919 and he did not do that OTA thing. i asked him that and he does not know about it. he just called up the smart cs (888-1111). he did some deception and asked questions like what is gprs, mms, wap etc. and he knows what all of that means. maybe he used his charm on the gal?

arnold, I'm using the SmartGPRS profile (set via OTA config) [I have three profiles, SmartMMS (APN=mms;CID=1), SmartPC (APN=internet;CID=2), and SmartGPRS (APN=smart1;CID=3)]. I've also read the first post of this thread which requires me to enter smartwap for both the username and password which I also did on the T68. What else could be wrong?

@pran, for the profiles SmartPC, SmartGPRS and SmartMMS there is no user name and password. also, your default WAP profile should be SmartGPRS.

the data account and profile called SmartWAP is only used for CSD (may bayad) and the profile SmartWAP requires the username/password smartwap

arnold, I've deleted the username/password in the WAP profile SmartGPRS but I still couldn't access any WAP site. I'm still receiving the message Wrong access point name (APN).

arnold, yes the WAP profile uses the SmartGPRS data comm. entry. I just confirmed that the SmartPC data comm. profile works (connected my Palm via IR to the phone and browsed the web using Xiino). Could it still be the phone? I've already e-mailed the Customer Support of Smart regarding this but I haven't received any reply. BTW, I'd like to confirm if the WAP gateway for Smart is still 10.102.61.46
