Oh my god you have to do all the above steps jsut ot sync your phone witha Mac and you call that easy. . On the Pc you just have to put the phone on the cradle rightclick the phone icon and click sync.
Also if I understood correctly from what I read above you have to buy a software called phone agent for $30 to connect a mac with 610 and you guys still call it easy ?
Well to be frank I am not very surprised you are thae same guys who say draging the file to the trash bin is easy than clicking the 'Delete' button on the PC.

Mac and User friendly, I don't think those are two words which can be used together with out a 'not 'between them

PS: Just curious does the mac recognise the .sis files or does it deal with those file the same way they deal with .exe files?

I don't want to get into the MAC vs. Windows discussion here, just want to make things clear for anish:
If you have the currently supported MAC OS and a bluetooth dongle, there is nothing to be installed at all. Just pair the device with the software built in the OS, and start transfering files, syncing your contacts, calenders, etc...

And what are .sis files? But I guess the the Mac handles them the same way as .exe files -> it doesn't do anything with them...

@s40convert

The programs and games made for the p800 and p900 phones are .sis files which are executable files and thats why I guessed the mac won't recognise them and you wouldn't be able to execute them on a Mac.

So what do you do to install a game or an application on the P8/900? Do you transfer the whole file to the phone first and then execute it there?

On a PC you just click on those .sis files and it installs itself to the phone.

I also didn't want to start an argument but I saw some people above saying Mac is so much better than 'Windoze' . I tottaly agree Mac is a prettier piece of equipment (because I have a Mac Powerbook 17 Inch laptop, provided by the company) but when it comes to user friendliness and ease of use I beg to differ.

Yeah, c'mon guys - no Mac v PC here: it's not what the thread is about...

PC people have their programs, we Mac users have ours. At the end of the day, the aim of of the game is to get stuff up/down to the phone the easiest way possible so let's leave it at that and carry on supporting each other cos that's why we're here

Good article on The Register today about Clicker

http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/39/36030.html

And another good program I've used is GSM Remote:

@thewiccaman sorry, that was not my intention...

@all the others: how would I install program on a P800/900 when those .sis only work on PCs...????

And I agreee with everyone regarding the Salling Clicker! One of the few companies not ignoring the small MAC community!!

JoolsG3 has come up with a whole other thing here - the gsm side of the phone. What I mean is using the phone in conjunction with the Mac as a modem/internet connection - you get my meaning? :-/

I have tried to do that when I still had my t68 and managed to get as far as half the google home page before everything got pearshaped. Anyone have success with this?

Also, some gsm software, none of which I've tried though:

And guess what, some is for os9!

*Message to Esato Admins*

Just a thought: as so many of us seem to be using our SE phones in conjunction with our PCs of what ever type, would it be possible to set up 'forums' specifically for PC and Mac users, one for each?

I know there is the 'Technical' forum but as it seems to cover such a wide range of technical matters, often just related to phone issues, it is hard to find specific info about phone/computer issues when using the Esato search function.

I would be interested to know what you/other Esato memebers think.

When I installed Salling Clicker, I double-clicked on the installer's .sis file and the software got installed onto my P800 through bluetooth.

If only there is a way to do so with every other .sis file.

Hey Jonas Salling, are you listening? Do the Mac community proud by writing a .sis installer program.... pretty please...

@thewiccaman

I didn't mean to hijack the thread, sorry about that.

With regrad to installing the .sis from a MAC, as I said above I think the best way is to beam the file to the p800/900 and then run the sis file from the phone then after installing delete the original sis file. This will require more space on the memory but that will be regained after deleting the original sis file.

Connecting a MAC to your phone to get an internet connection is fairly easy as well. Note that you should have GPRS set up with your service provider! Regular dail up speeds might not satisfy you!

At first, you should get a modem script for your phone! Best source is http://www.taniwha.org.uk/ where you find other useful stuff like APN settings for your service...

On OS X, create a new network location and configure the TCP/IP to be PPP. Under PPP choose a name for the service, enter the user name and password and enter the APN under "telephone number".
Under "Bluetooth Modem", you'll have to pick a modem script and there you go!

@anish @s40convert No worries

@s40convert The APN thing is why I had so many problems when I tried to go on the net with my t68 - I think I must have been using WAP as I had a phone number, *not* an APN number to 'dial-up' with.

Must give it a go - tnx!

wiccaman,

I'm right behind you for the mac/pc split thing.
Could honestly say it would make a heluva difference to mac users here... We are a growing trend, and have been for the past umpteen years now, soon everyone will be saying"You using a PC? what's that? Boring! Get with it, get a MAC! HA! HA!"

C'mon BOSSHOG, where's your vote?

@anish, and anybody else that struggle connecting a unit...

Ehm, the following is the difficult process I had to go through in order to backup my phone and transfer files between my T610 and my pBook (both on Jaguar and Panther):

SYNCHRONISATION
- Connect the Bluetooth dongle to Mac (recognized and ready for usage after 3 sec.)
- Start iSync, search for new device, synchronize

FILE EXCHANGE:
- Right click on the Bluetooth icon on the menu bar, browse device, drag & drop files back and forth in FTP style.

I never had to install 3rd party software, drivers, or ANY kind on stuff that makes your life difficult... Cause after all, it's a Mac!

NOW, I would REALLY like someone to tell me, HOW much more userfriendly can something get? You people running other OS, you go through this in some easier way? What? You just point your phone to your screen and you 'beam' all the processes, or something?

Anyways, as for the rest of the Mac'ers, I can't see any greater value of these 3rd party software. iSync + Bluetooth File Exchange + Address Book + iCal = Complete communication with my mobile.

- iSync
Does all the backup I need (Phonebook, Calendar, etc.)

- Bluetooth File Exchange
Like it is titled, I exchange any kind of file between my Mac and my T610 (Images, sounds, themes, games, programs, contacts, etc.) either by dragging and dropping the file on the Dock, or by browsing my mobile and do it via FTP style.

- Address Book
Organize the phonebook entries (Name, phone numbers, email, etc.), add and remove entries, AND, one of the COOLEST features, send and receive SMS messages on your computer's screen(!!!) while you continue working on your current programs (without even touching the mobile)

- iCal
Organize calendar entries, add and remove entries, etc.

...And best of all, all of these generously included in your Mac OS!

PS. Yes, I know, with PhoneAgent for instance, you can create on your computer's screen the MMSes and send the on. But is it REALLY worth 30 bucks just for such details? Don't you think someone can make it just with your OS's utilities? Unless, you are really lazy or you want to show-off by changing song on iTunes, from your couch, through your mobile, then OK... Salling Clicker it is...
