Give T610 Java MIDP 2 Support (irc/msn/bluetooth/etc...) |

Hello, I read this post here calling for sockets and better java on the t610.
So I made a petition at petitononline.com, and if you want better java, then sign it.
http://www.petitiononline.com/T610JAVA/petition.html
We need LOTS of people to sign it, and then send the petition to SonyEricsson. Its for people that own the T610 and people who are thinking about getting it.
Lots of people come to this board, so if we all sign it then we could be listened to. Also please post a link to the petition if you own a site etc... that would really help.
Even if you dont have the T610 or even want one, the faster SE sorts out JAVA on its phones, the better for every SE owner.
(I have made this a new Post in the General Board) |

signed..
I hope this will convince them..
I really wonder if SE has java dev in their crew, don't they miss the socket support? or faster java? or do they care? they just want to list up functions on the phone!?
As in their website they list that the email client has emails with attachments.. but they don't tell you that it only can see if there is an attachment or not.. If I knew that it didn't have socket support nor attachments in email client I would never bought this phone..
I have always loved SE, but this is the first time I get dissapointed.. ironically with their best phone.. I just expected to much from their "dev's"
But maybe after they see our demands.. things can change

Yeah, I'm a little surprised as well. It's the sort of thing you expect from Nokia, not SE. |

I am under the impression that is putting much more effort in supporting and promoting Mophun then JAVA. It appears that Mophun is the platform of their choice, while JAVA support was added to T610 only to satisfy the "power users".

Was really hoping to use BT API's to talk to some cool devices I have here... oh well, here's hoping for a flash upgrade...

I got a reply from SE,
I told them what we wanted and the reply was that it is possible they will update java to have this support! But he wasn't sure...
Well either they just answer like that so they can hold us put, and not cry out to all new potential buyers that T610 lacks this and this.
OR he was sincere...
I believe more on the first...
If he wasn't sure about the answer then the release of a firmware with java socket support isn't close at all, by the time they implement they will have a new model with that support and they will attract people like us buying that new model instead of T610. And if they implemented Socket support they would lose sales of the new model..
I just hope they don't do as I "forseen" , if so.. this will really be the end of me and SE phones... Next thing I'll buy will be a PALM with phone capabilities.. |

I am under the impression that have saved "space" in the phone for some not yet implemented functions, so we might see some big changes in the future (remember the T68 MMS upgrade?). This is ofcourse pure guesswork, so don't qoute me on that.

nope. it isn't the same as the t68 mms upgrade..
The t68m would have the mms support from the beginning and they talked about it alot, having the t68 as the first mms phone.. I even saw a prototype T68m before the launch having mms support..
I guess that they removed MMS when E became SE and planed a new model with that support.. and then after a while they released firmware upgrades for t68m users...
Or that they didn't meet deadline and were not 100% finished with mms so they postponed it to T68i .. |

Well, firmware JAVA updates are possible. As a matter of fact, the JAVA has already been updated in R1L. We might see more major changes in R2...

SE can do big updates when they want, the t68 is one example.
R2x software on the P800 is another example. They added alot more functionality to the camera with that such as the nightmode as well as alot of other things.
As for the Java issue, I've signed the petition as it would be handy to have an MSN client on my new t610, but the p800 does it too - and that'll still be my workhorse phone for a good while yet |

I think its a conspiracy. SE has a deal with Synergix that only offer a poor java in T610 to make people choose Mophun instead!
