GSMARENA REVIEW:
https://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_1_viii-review-2963.php
Looks like some small upgrades here and there. Major upgrade is telephoto sensor being 4 times the size. GSM arena says telephoto camera is locked. The video seems to show a proper periscope lens though? 1TB model is available. Other than that, it's just more AI slop.
I do like the fully textured body.
Top model is 1TB/16GB. It also has the SD slot still, so not sure why you'd pay for the 1TB slot unless you're shooting tons of 4K video and don't like swapping SD cards.
Pricing:
256GB/12GB - 1500 euro or 1400 pounds or about $1760 USD.
1TB GOLD model will be 2000 eros or 1850 pounds or about $2350 USD.
Preorder bundle (where available) includes the XM6 headphones.
JAPAN PRICING
256GB/12GB - Y235,400 (taxes included) or about $1,500 USD
512GB/12GB - Y251,900 (taxes included) or about $1,600 USD
512GB/16GB - Y268,400 (taxes included) or about $1,700 USD
1TB/16GB - Y299,200 (taxes included) or about $1,900 USD

It seems that the reviewers’ unit doesn’t have the final camera firmware as GSMArena’s camera review is not so good. |

As a user of the Xperia 1V and 1VII, I think this is far from true. If they can produce a superb camera on 1VII, I don't see they can produce better than that.

Or the review is not that professional and knowledge based. |

You can not blame reviewers and specialized phone websites every time you don´t like what you read regarding a phone. Similiar websites will probabbly write the same..

I checked Amazon.jp and they have listed a black 16/1TB 1 VIII XQ-GE44 B4JPCX0, buth they don´t ship to Sweden.
Seen a black 16/1TB 1 VIII on other Japanese sites too, but they don´t sell outside Japan.
In Europe there are some countries that you can preorder the gold 1TB from Sony. Can´t find info if it´s 12 or 16 GB RAM.
I don´t like the gold colour. Prefer a black phone.

Expected delivery in Japan is around June 11. So about a month after announcement. I have not seen the 16/512 variant anywhere outside of Japan. Only the 12/256GB or the 1TB/16 gold.
No notification LED. I have seen a couple reviews but nothing too in depth. The new AI feature seems okay. Price increase is about $100 USD over last year's model, which is about 6.25%. This is consistent based on increased component pricing in the last year and a larger telephoto sensor.
I am waiting to find a more in depth camera review on youtube. I would like to know if you can start zooming on the main and it will automatically cycle through all the lenses seamlessly. I realize it is all digital zoom, but all the more reason they should be able to do it.
To me, the upgrades are minimal and include: new telephoto sensor, new processor, new body surface texture, improved speakers, software upgrades (AI, raw multi-frame image processing on all lenses). That's pretty much it.
Whether you get this vs the VII depends on how much you value the design, the telephoto sensor, and having the latest processor.
@profyler - the thing about cameras and photography is that not everyone can do it well and whether or not you like an image is very subjective and personal. GSMarena never says how they take photos just what they think of the photos and the technical specs. There are many actual photographers who use and love what xperia cameras can produce. I'm not saying anybody is wrong or right. Just saying that it is one of those things where you have to decide for yourself given more evidence.
@maratonmannen wow you've done some research already! In my experience, most, if not all, Japanese retailers will not ship outside of Japan if you shop online. Some will ship internationally if you visit the physical store, for an extra fee of course. You will probably need to rely on other shipping services like JapanRabbit or do ebay. If you can find someone visiting japan and is willing to bring one home for you, that's the cheapest as it will save on shipping and taxes (~10%).
