is TCL even offering the display to other companies? from the product page it only looks like TCL products are shipping with the display.
Moogoo, is this the link you are referring to about the new version?
https://www.tcl.com/global/en/tcl-nxtpaper-technology
I don't see any mention of OLED on that site. There is this
TCL NXTPAPER's multi-layer filtration prevents eye strain, reducing harmful blue light down to 3.41%². Unlike other LCDs with yellowing software, TCL NXTPAPER ensures vivid, true-to-life colors.
the devices linked on that site, also use LCD tech.

Unless you meant this news. Which doesn't look to be in production yet, just concept.

yea the link is the same as in my original post. it is showing the older version. the news from MWC shows the new version that uses AMOLED technology. doesn't look like it is in any devices yet, but speculation is that they will have it in devices by the end of the year.
here is a hands on article with a concept device that has the new nxtpaper in it. https://9to5google.com/2026/0[....]oled-display-upgrade-hands-on/
As I said in my earlier post, it's probably too late for it to be in the m8, but maybe the m9.
And while TCL does not currently provide the display to other companies, they might with sony because of the MOU signed between them for TCL to handle sony's displays going forward (also linked in my prior post).

as far as I know, TCL is only supplying panels for the TV division and home audio, not mobile.

Yes, the MOU is for home entertainment and the bravia branded products. Just speculating and admittedly, hopeful, that maybe they'll provide displays for mobile too. again, probably not too relevant for this year's model. perhaps in the future... if there is a future model.

Interesting. Question will be - If tempered glass were to apply to the display will it also still be greatly legible, even under bright sun visibility? Will anti-glare property stay same? If yes, will it still consume less battery life compared to normal displays previous Xperias type display used?

Funny thing is the inkjet printed oled tech was acquired by TCL from Joled which was established jointly by panasonic and sony. The funny thing is back in 2000's sony had an incredible in house display development but for some reason the fumbled pretty bad after that. First they formed a joint venture with samsung super lcd where they moved much of their tech but later sold the 49% shareholding to samsung along with some of tech that was previously developed by sony. Than japanese came together to form japan display which had 25% stake of sony, toshiba and Panasonic while the remaining 25% was held by other smaller firms. It was pretty impressive in early 2010's but since have been in shambles. It's to the point even sony doesn't use led panels from japan displays for their tvs. Further sony showcased flexible oleds back in 2008 which was also amalgamated into joled later on but that joled couldn't really get their stuff sorted and pretty much quit the market. Currently sony owns about 3% share in japan display |

I think it comes down to money, money, money, as always. They may have had the tech and know how but didn't have the money to develop it into a marketable, consumer product that would turn into profit. Sony isn't the giant it used to be. These days, playstation, cameras, and bravia TVs are probably where it makes the most of its money. Audio is not what it used to be. Movies have never really made them that much, and as you know, mobile has been reduced to a niche pet project, essentially.
I've always been a sony fan since I was a kid. But companies must adapt to survive and sony adapted too slowly while carrying a premium price tag. They were architects of their own downfall. At least some of their bets have panned, but without playstation, they may not have survived at all.

I'm expecting a camera bump like that of the X10 7.
I hope they keep the ribbed frame and textured back.

i think that would make more sense. what's on the leak just looks weird to me.
Also, this leak doesn't have the ribbed frame like the VII. would be strange if they went away from that considering it was one of the highlights of the VII design.
2 more months until some official news?

Can't come soon enough. I have a feeling the next 1 will be a bit different.

If they have moved the camera modules around that means bigger battery and probably main sensor upgrade. I doubt we will see tele improvement unless they really wanna go all out which I doubt. |

What other way could they improve on the optics of the 1 m7? If they have moved the camera bump around it would have to be with good reason.

not necessarily. rotating the camera module could just be to make room for other components they plan to stick in there. of course they will need to move other stuff around too.
it would be nice if they used a new sensor and improved optics instead of simply relying on AI like everyone else. AI can do some good work, but it takes away a lot of the natural feel in a lot of cases. I don't want that.
