Has there ever been a pink Xperia 1 before? This is a screen shot of one of their latest videos.

I think that's just the VII in lavender with particular lighting and possibly incorrect white balance with the camera taking the images.
There has never been a pink xperia 1 before. there have been pink xperias in the past though.

I really do wish they would bring back the iconic notification light.
That's definitely what bugged me the most when I got the Xperia 1 VII, got used to the form factor pretty fast and the display is great, doesn't feel like a downgrade from 4K at all.
But to remedy to the notification light, I've been using aodNotify Pro (aosp version) and it works flawlessly, use it with a long display time, short intervals and a whatever seconds pause you want, with even adding a display notification... It's super customizable and it uses barely any battery. |

looks like the lavender color to me. the other colors don't look like what you'd expect either. black looks very gray in the video. so a very light lavender makes it seem like it's pink.

@funkadopest
That's amazing just looking into this now.
Edit: I installed it. Although it doesn't alert for missed calls.

Interesting take! I feel like I would really miss the 21:9 4K screen and other small features that have gone, like the notification LED.
I'm hoping the 1m8 goes beyond the 7 and shows love to sony fans, but I have a feeling we're gonna get expected upgrades in processor and camera and then just get a whole bunch more AI stuff thrown in there.
I hope to be pleasantly surprised. Sad there are no leaks yet but information has been scarce for a few years now. Guess we will have to wait until May before we know anything concrete.
Me too. I'm hoping to be surprised. I'm looking for something more that Sony can offer. I need to upgrade my current Xperia 1V.

Yea, an upgrade is a must for me. I'm currently hanging on with my 1m2 with cracked screen

not long ago sony signed a MOU with TCL for them to handle sony's home entertainment, including TVs and displays. https://www.sony.co.jp/en/news-release/202601/26-0120E/
at this year's MWC, TCL unveiled NXTPAPER, which is a bright e-paper like display technology. https://www.tcl.com/global/en/tcl-nxtpaper-technology
wouldn't it be amazing if we could see this nxtpaper in the Xperia 1m8?
I'm admittedly dreaming here because it's probably too late in the development cycle to be in the m8. maybe the m9 if sony continues releasing phones.

I like the anti-glare quality feature and I'd like to see this close up.

That antiglare looks great. it definitely seems like an e-paper display when direct light is shining on it. There's no gloss to the display either, which is nice.
didn't realize nxtpaper is their ongoing technology, which they've further improved. i definitely would not mind seeing it in the m8. if they can make it happen... it'd be a fantastic upgrade imo. for a phone, battery life is what matters. with this display, you'd get better battery life, anti-glare for daylight viewing, and what looks like great quality resolution and refresh rates. win win win.

Yes, it looks like it would be a fantastic upgrade and something to set it apart from the other flagships. Seems like a no-brainer.
Are there any negatives to it?

it can supposedly get up to 3200 nits, which is brighter than most devices out there.
disadvantages would probably be image quality in terms of sharpness and color gamut and contrast? in that review video, things looked pretty good, but if it is truly e-paper like, then i would expect colors to be a bit muted.
perhaps fixing those flaws is what the latest version is all about?
EDIT:
so with a bit more research, it seems the NXTPAPER in that review video is an older version. the new version I linked above, is based on AMOLED and has up to 3200 nits brightness and full p3 color gamut coverage. it should look amazing and even better than what's shown in the review video. However, they are still working on this and the earliest we'll see it in a device is end of 2026. So it definitely doesn't sound like it will be in the m8. perhaps the m9.
That being said, I don't think i would mind getting the version of nxtpaper in the review video. looks more than capable to me and for phone usage.

I was looking at their tablets, too. If I ever purchase another tablet then it will definitely be considered, if only to experience the paper screen. The glare on screens has been a problem for a looonng time.

10000%
It would be nice to see this trend spread to other companies. Displays that mimic paper are much easier on the eyes and perfect for devices we stare at often including phones, laptops, tablets, and even monitors.
I will be needing a new laptop/tablet device in the near future. Would be nice to have this type of option to consider. TCL doesn't sell these devices in the US though.
