Sony did all things that huawei Samsung Apple are doing now.
Buying a higher score.
But now they don't buy it for the cost down.
Cut the useless cost  . |

DXO used to be reputable, Sony like all other companies hand out devices and goodies for review. DXO would get contributions but since they're getting more exposure it's more like an auction now. Xperia 5 camera is excellent, not Huawei P30 quality but definitely in the flagship bracket. Apart from the HDR mode, the still images are better than the S10+. The Xperia 5 got great reviews everywhere but the availability is so low that nobody cares too much about it. |

What's point of testing phones if score is not real?
Photos of note 10+ and iphone 11 pro are better than X1? Yes.
But not that much for a 20, 30 pts difference.
The review of my phone was exactly what I could see.
Strong corner softness. Issues with blue hue while using flash ..
DX0 tested z5 at default 8MP.
Tech sites tested at 23.
Of course it looks better at 8.
Any photo from any phone will look better downscaled compared to full resolution.
XZ2 still has best samples from gsma photo tool.
Among all phones.

OP7 Pro was tested with a firmware not available to units that were going to be shipped.
There was another phone with same situation, not sure if it is the new oppo reno.

Xz2 has the best mainly because gsmarena samples are taken on a tripod. (they also take out the focal length difference) 1/8 sec shutter and new algorithm played an important role. It's the sd845 they worked on the isp with qualcomm.
Xa had better stills, many Sony phones with mtk performed better than their snapdragon siblings of the same year. M5 was a good example. I believe Sony's bionz software and qualcomms isp somehow clashed resulting in worse photos, that must be why they worked together for 845. You can see this effect with the XA2 too, exact same camera but significantly worse stills(in low light) .
If they have kept the 19mp added ois and raw nr it could have beaten X1 even at handheld.
