right - but doesn't the multiple FLs allow them to get more data and produce a single image with higher quality and detail? That's what the LIGHT camera company does with their L16 device.. and if i recall correctly, sony is working with them, arent' they?

Light tech is what you see on Nokia 9.
If you try to merge from UWA, wide and tele (like lg v40) you get that "3D" effect like google street view.
Light tech tries to emulate a larger sensor by using smaller ones.
You can have for example 5 sensors of 1/2.3" and keep slim device like 8mm.
Something you cant with 1" or more.
In theory, nokia 9 should outperform 1".
Surface of light catching is 166mm2.
If we consider 1 mono = 3 rgb
It is also cheaper for sensor manufacturing because they waste less silicon by making smaller sensors.

Light's own camera has 3 different FLs and claims to have variable zoom.
The phones with hybrid zoom should already be combining 2x and 1x data. iPhone's crop outside the frame also should be using all cameras for the composite image.
Most plausible rumor for the X1 successor is that it'll have 3+1 setup. 1 being tof and one of the cameras having a big sensor, most likely the 1/1.7" 12mp. This was outed by a noname from Reddit and Zackbuks. 6 camera phone is not a successor to the 1. If it's real it'll be higher tier.
I wonder if this 1/1.7" will also have variable aperture. It could maybe gather as much light as the 1/1.3" f/1.7 one with an f/1.2.

Problem is ..... As you increase aperture, more of frame goes out of focus.
Easier to see when you use closer to subject.
I dont know how Light does it.
For example all phones with monochrome use same FL as wide.
How would you merge photos that have subject placed in different sposts?
RGB + mono already does crazy process because they are not equal, but binocular.

The rumor is that variable aperture lenses are 1.2 to 2.4 so it wouldn't be always 1.2. Lens quality is also a determining factor in edge to edge sharpness.
I don't think it would be much different than merging same focal lengths. You'd have to use smaller part of a sensor or merge the longer lens into the wide and then crop. Apple does merge different fls for cotf feature. It could be why it has such weird cam array. Rumored s11+ also looks like it will have an unorthodox array.
Even for multi frame nr, there's partial merging for moving and stationary parts of the image. Could be hard in real time but for photos similar things are done already.

Not lens being more or less sharper in the corners.
I say the natural effect of shallow DOF.
For example XZ3 vs XZ2P.
Both same sensor, just different f.
Both used to take a photo of a flower that is 30cm away.
XZ2P shot will have more of the scene out of focus than xz3.
Because of bigger f.
Edges will show natural bokeh that goes to center as you increase aperture.
I suppose this is why samsung uses f2.4 in good lighting.
Someone that has 1 or 5. Could share if anything new has been added?

Well, with all the power of 865, I am not sure if Sony still needs to use stacked sensor.
Qualcomm is taking game to the extreme.
Gsma says file is 725MB.
That's odd.
Usually new android is way over 1,4Gb.
My android 7 was more than 2GB.

I don't think it's conflicting info. 1 flagship at mwc with the rest being midrange this lines up perfectly with 1II,5II and 0 for the whole of 2020 |

Many samples on internet show 1 and 5 have white balance issues in lower light.
Warm colours. It happens since xz2.

One+ will make a midrange.
Even more competition now.
Sony needs to do midrange with 7xx, IP68 and HDR screen below $500.
