Last time I read, Sony had 48% of the sales.
Also Samsung only sell for cellphones, while Sony for security, cars, mediacal machines etc ....
Yes, isocell are cheaper than exmor.

Hawk ... can you be clear/specific as to what you mean by "Last time I read, Sony had 48% of the sales" ? Sales of what exactly: smartphones/tablets/computers and in which market (Asia, China, Japan, Global)?

Sony ... as best I know does not make cars. They have 1 prototype ... 1 ever in history of making a car let alone 'cars' (plural).

excellent news! If these early 2020 Xperia's are a hint of being more synergistic ... and with Huwaei's push for phones, speakers and watches in their press release today ... you can bet Sony is going to come out with the punches: Phones, Audio, Watches ... remember they really made this category as something to profit and work on. Let's see how they can deliver here.

3.27.2020 Press announcement:
Statement Regarding the Impact of the Spread of the Novel Coronavirus

Sony has four manufacturing plants located in China (two in Shanghai, one in Wuxi, Jiangsu, and one in Huizhou, Guangdong). All of these plants were shut down in accordance with government mandates, from the beginning of the spring holidays on January 24, 2020, until February 9. From February 10, all four plants have re-started operations in increments. Supply chain issues remain, but operations are returning to the level they were before the spread of the virus.
In accordance with a mandate by the local government, Sony has shut down both of its manufacturing plants in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Penang) for the period between March 18 and April 14 (planned).
Sony has also shut down its manufacturing plant in the U.K. (Wales) for the period between March 26 and April 20 (planned) in accordance with a mandate from the local government.
Business has been impacted by factors such as restrictions on movement of people across national borders, making it difficult for Sony to send engineers to manufacturing hubs such as China and countries in Southeast Asia for the purpose of helping with new product launches or giving instructions on manufacturing.

Impact on Business

Game & Network Services Segment

Sony estimates that there will be no material impact on this business for the current fiscal year.
Although no issues have emerged so far, Sony is carefully monitoring the risk of delays in production schedules for game software titles at both its first-party studios and partner studios, primarily in Europe and the U.S.
Music Segment

Especially outside of Japan, the business has started to be affected by delays in new music releases, interruptions in supply chains for CDs and other physical music media, and a decrease in music licensing resulting from both lower advertising activity and delays in production for motion pictures and television productions. Concerts and other live events around the world are being cancelled or postponed, including all Sony-sponsored performances and events in Japan.
Pictures Segment

The motion pictures business as a whole is being affected by shutdowns of movie theaters around the world and various restrictions on people's movement, leading to circumstances including early termination of theatrical runs and delays in release dates.
Additionally, in alignment with the entire industry, Sony has temporarily shut down all of its film and television production, resulting in future changes in theatrical release dates for some titles.

Electronics Products & Solutions Segment

In addition to the shutdown of Sony's manufacturing plants in Malaysia, the flow of resources from suppliers in Asia has become unstable, having a wide-ranging impact on the manufacturing of goods in this segment.
Sales of Sony's products are also being affected by lockdowns around the world and retailer closings.

Imaging & Sensing Solutions Segment

At this time, there has been no material impact on the production of CMOS image sensors, including any impact on the procurement of materials. However, Sony's primary customers in this segment are smartphone makers who rely on supply chains in China, and although recovery in these supply chains has led to sales gradually returning to normal levels, there is a risk that going forward sales could be impacted by a slowdown in the smartphone market.

Financial Services Segment

There has been no material impact on the business at this time. However, it is possible that, as has occurred in the past, fluctuations in the financial market could impact the financial results of this segment.

Just as we all suspected ... but it's nice for Sony to come out with this in advance just after announcing synergistic in their businesses as a whole. 2020 is going to a challenge but a great time for Sony.

Last data I saw weeks ago that Sony had actually 49.1% of all image sensors made on Earth in 2019.
For cellphones, tablets, cars, security, medical etc ......

By the end of 2019, sensors marketshare was :

Sony : 49,1%
Samsung: 17,9%
Omnivision: 9,5%
Other: 23,5%

What would be the phone size if Sony made phones with these 21:9 screen sizes ....

5.0" = 13,01 x 5,61

5.2" = 13,47 x 5,81

5.5" = 14,18 x 6,11

7.0" = 17,68 x 7,61

I think with the micro matrix, they could trim bezel to half.
Not sure when this tech will be out.
I suppose just for Mark III.

I remember my first , the T300. It's what brought me to Esato in the first place.

I think now, I''m hoping for a new tablet more than anything else. My phone and laptop needs are sorted.

found something interesting at dutch forum

According to the product ID that my friend found in Thailand, the Xperia 1 II has a different "kind". it could be a new variant like "premium" with more RAM or ROM, mmwave support etc., or just a new color

Interesting.
Maybe a boosted version for China/Taiwan?
Because according to the schedule, China would get the phone just in June.
While Japan and Europe in end of April.

The Honor 30 arriving on April 15 was rumored to pack a 50MP Sony IMX7xx sensor. That rumor has turned out to be true now as we've got an image of the Honor 30, which confirms its 50MP Sony IMX700-based camera.

While details about the IMX700 are still scarce, our source tells us that it will be the industry's largest Sony custom sensor. That would presumably mean that it will match the Huawei P40 lineup's 1/1.28" sensor.

True. Biggest exmor for mobile.
Lumia 808 had Toshiba sensor.
Panasonic, Toshiba or own sensor.

I suppose 1/1.28" must be about 77mm2 .
Sony will use about 42mm2.

The Z3 Tablet Compact was IMO one of the best things I've ever purchased from Sony.

Totally agree with you and Ascariss! Reading this thread on my Z3TC right now lol. It works so great after so many years, I just had one battery replacement because it was swollen. It is the perfect size for me as well. A replacement tab would be so awesome for Sony to launch. PS I saw Nodar shoot down the tablet rumour on his twitter page....

Soo what is keeping SONY from deliver a sleek keyboard (Bluetooth) + an 8” and 10” (or whatever 13+”) tablet that would make a great working platform with office 365??
(Still pulling my XZ3 Compact Tab out of my inner poket at a meeting makes my fellow coworkers with iPads (what-so-ever) look the other way)

I like that!!

Except Apple and Samsung, nobody is selling well tablets.
We do not know if with the merging of the divisions , the budget will be higher.

I would make the X1 Tablet this way: 10" 16:9 (or 16:10 like Z4) 4K or 2K , 6GB, 128 or 256GB, plastic body, IP68, front 13MP selfie, front speakers, 8000mAh/21W. Front design similar to ipad pro.
