If it is flagship, it needs same stuff of big brothers.
It needs to be a mini X1.
If my math is right, 5" 21:9 has 11,68 cm x 5,00 cm with 12,7 cm diagonal.
Area is 58,4 cm2.
Screen of XZ1c has 58,3 cm2.
The comment does not say it is 21:9 or 18:9.

If it has 21:9 it'd have more side bezels than top&bottom.
And 5" 21:9 gives only 4" 16:9 viewing. Maybe it's narrower idk. Could look nice. Nobody tried a really small bezelless phone.
I don't think it needs to be a mini X1. It can't if XP proportions are going to be used. Like XR, it's flagship segmentation. Could have 2 or even 1. As long as it performs like a flagship.

Let's suppose it is flagship.
Nobody is going to pay at least $600 if the phone has single rear cam, 5MP selfie and maybe less than 2500 mAh.
If they make it just an Ace with SD855, waste of time and money.
Fans of Compact line would love a mini X1.
I still think the 14cm rumor has higher chances.
Something closer to XZ2c.
LOL, I was just checking old small Xperia and just found out E1 does not have front cam.
He was a candidate when I was looking for my first Xperia.

iphone se was $400 when it launched and was a budget flagship.
Pixel 4 will have 2 cams, iPhone 11 will have 2, non pro OnePlus I believe also has 2, s10e has again 2. At se proportions they don't have much of a choice. And people who are in the market for a small phone know its shortcomings.
Sony can't do midrange anyway. Something like an se would be a good middleground. If that design is real with no bezels I don't think people would complain about other specs that much given they would deliver a balanced package.
I personally don't think any of the compact rumors are true. At 68mm X2 will be compact enough, and it has the same xz3 height. If they price this right it can sell well. |

So looks like the main cam of X1 will be UWA of X2.
I think there will be 3 phones.
Sphinx is J80, X1 is J81, Horus is J82 and there is browser benchmark of J83.
J83 must be the smaller one.

12 mp 1/1.7 inch sensor could challange and beat anything on the market and it's a big improvement over xperia 1.
i'm very doubtful about it.

If that's true it would be a fairly radical change in how they develop models. The 1 already introduced a whole new set of cameras, to change them all again already would be very unusual.
If they do this, then it's a good sign of their intent to make Mobile successful.

Mr Buks posted about 12MP 1/1.7" while ago.
Z1 introduced imx220.
Z5 introduced imx300.
Sony sells the sensors.
Of course Mobile knows what kind of hardware other will be using.
Maybe they felt they had to make this move sooner than expected.
They should at least make it 16MP and increase RAM to keep same speed.
1.9 micron is unnecessary for a phone that will use ISO below 500 most of the time.
BONUS: rumor that Pixel 4 (non-XL) will be $ 1099.
Then people say X1 for $950 is a crime. LOL.

If this 12MP 1/1.7" sensor exists, it either would be on a X1 5G or X1M2. I don't believe the leaked smaller phone could feature this. |

What if they are bringing 3 high end phones like 2015?
Only 4 phones so far.
2016 = XA, XAU, X, XP, E5, XZ, Xc
2017 = XA1, XA1U, XA1+, L1, XZs, XZP, XZ1, XZ1c, R1, R1+
2018 = XZ2, XZ2c, XZ2P, L2, XA2, XA2+, XA2U, XZ3
There is the UAprof of J80 and J82. At least I have never seen fake Uaprof before.
Xpericheck has Sphinx J80 on their list.
The benchmark browser of J83 and gossips about new Compact.

Zackbuks said Sphinx is the 5g device they are using to test with carriers. I don't know if that means it's just a prtotype or an actual device scheduled to be released.
I don't expect anything new other than the ones already leaked. If ever they announce something else, I don't think it'll be available soon.
They should cut the midrange line up too. Merge L3 and 10, and make one higher midrange. |
