That's purely a 5G test device, it's not even a prototype for a consumer model. It's only to see what they can do with 5G in real use cases.

A lot of people are praising the Xperia 1 because of the bezels, not having a punch hole or notch is a big thing. The 5G device will be a bit fatter but that's all. |

Most probably but also there's a rumor about a 5k phone too. But I don't think it's going to happen soon. Rumors tend to get too out of hand with Sony. 1 was supposed to have a tof and 50+ mp but none of that happened. |

Someone posted on weibo a benchmark of J92 with SD855+.
I think it is fake.
I doubt they would give different cpu.
Same cpu is easier to create formware.
They could have have Z3 with 805 and XZ with 821 , but did not.

If it has 855+ it would be something better than the 1. Not the 2 we're hearing about.
So far we only know 2 and 20 for ifa right? Which are not note competitors. I don't think we'll see a better flagship this year. |

There will be the Xperia 20 and most likely a 2K flagship, the camera is probably going to be different and a change in the design a bit. I feel like there will be an Xperia 15G version so the current Xperia 1 gets a price drop. |

According to software info there are Sphinx (J80) and Horus (J82) . Both 855 and 5G.
But there is rumor of Sphinx being cancelled for something else.
This is Sony, no way just 2 flagships in one year .
They did in 2016, but it was odd year.

Well, this year is kind of a transition year too. And one flagship on mwc shows it's possible that they may release just one (X2) on ifa. Super flagship/Rollable/Foldable is always a possibility but I'm not expecting it, given the rumor levels and Sony's way of playing it safe.
Badassmam have you seen the next flagship? There are leaked renders that suggest same front of 1 with cams at the corner a the back and smaller overall. |

I've not seen anything and I've not heard anything consistent or concrete either. The Xperia 1 has done relatively well in sales so the question is if you take out the 4K screen for a 2K, will it be desirable? For such a device to be desirable it needs better camera, better battery life, cheaper and smaller than the Xperia 1 to go up against the S10 and OnePlus. Some people are saying that all the flagships from now on should be minimum 4K because it is the one feature that is exceptional. |

I dont know about midranges, but X1 is indeed selling better than XZ2.
An older post from Mr Buks , not sure if I understood well, seems to be about 10.000 sales in China and 100.000 in Japan. And in Taiwan X1 was the #12 of June , ahead of S10+.
If they decide to make all high end only in 4K, they need a bigger phone.
Smaller phone with higher ppi would be weird and not fair to who bought X1.
All I would change about the design is thicker phone to decrease cam bulge.
It is not bizarre like iphone, but it would be better 100% flat like z phones.

I don't see why not. The panel is rumored to be fhd (1440p is unlikely imo at 6") if they do the 1234p thing they are saving 1 panel every 6 panels, no notch or a hole yes it might be more desirable but it's still cheaper to produce. No curves, no jack, no in display fps and if they keep the Samsung sensors even 650 dollars would be possible. Still would be good for 750 too. |

Samsung had to cut more, they have more in-house stuff to keep price lower and still could not reach $700.
How can Sony?
X2 for same price of xz2c? I doubt
Mr Buks has a post he says 12MP 1/1.7". I have no idea if it is the 26mm.
Bonus: Mate 30 Pro = 40MP 1/1.5" 😒

Well I only said possible. Knowing Sony probably they will release it for 750. But any more than that and it's a lost cause imo. In sept X1 will be cheaper, if they make this X2 $800 who's gonna buy it? If this 1/1.7" sensor is in X2 then it's a different story. How big would be the pixels at this size?
That Sony rep said they want to deliver to the ones who want the best screen and a great camera. They need to make more effort for the latter. |
