maybe i am expecting too much, but i'm not too impressed with the low light photography. i would have expected better clarity. yes, the images are brighter and there is more detail captured. but overall, it's not great for hand held. i'm sure tripod would give better results, but most people aren't gonna whip one out.

I guess i will wait for the next iteration of the dual cam to see how it improves. just seems like they made everything brighter without truly improving the image itself. what is the fusion processor for then?

hopefully better samples will appear once it's actually out, but by now, the software should be as good as finalized.

Just checked some photos.
Iso-wise, This phone is a beast. I don't know to you guys but for me, high-iso with this clean shot is better than less-noise images(lower iso-ois combo) but with blurry moving objects at night. (I can't take a damn good blur-free photo with my note 8 at parties )

I don't know but imagine how good these pictures can become at lower iso.

I don't know to you guys, but I'm a fan of the camera but unfortunately not for the whole phone

In fact, I do like the samples, and it seems that ISO 6400 is very good. I really don't know what other phones is capable of this.

BTW, has anyone seen the capability of its bw sensor? There is no demo for it yet.

I will have a chance to hold one tomorrow. Does anyone here want to know anything that I can test?

I don't know if it's the algorithm of what but the nights are quite soft and sometimes even blurry.

for iso500, there is a bit of fine noise here and that is a shame. Even resizing the image to 1280 still shows the noise.

Looks like something went a miss here with the dual cam setup, the noise for iso3200 is very good but I feel there is a lot of smoothing going on, since the photo is not that sharp.

for such a large photo, it does seems a bit blurry or lacking detail. The iso performance is nice but again is it partly due to the algorithm smoothing things out a bit too much and blurring the photo?

I am sure the software will be improved in the long run as with most sony camera SWs in the past.

@yuunanase would you mind taking 2 separate photographs, one with forced dual camera mode and another one in superior auto mode, rest of the settings untouched and see if there is any difference? I'm just wondering if there are any benefits to B&W sensor when shooting in non low light scenarios.

If you have XZP or XZ2 with you, can you compare screens? Thanks, and appreciate you doing hits!

@yuunanase

Can you take a photo of the same perhaps 2 scenes, one well lit and one darker in manual mode and slowly go up in ISO, from lowest to as high as it goes. thanks

Unfortunately, there are not many dark places, and I only had so limited time, but I did a few shots for comparison.

Also, I was told that the BW mode was not ready. High sensitive mode was limited to full HD as well

Sorry, a bit disorganised, but a few shots anyway.

Have preordered it so will be getting it on 20th

Thanks! What are your first impressions? How is the display? I pre-ordered as well, which color did you get?

Ordered it in black, as I have not used a black phone since the Xperia Pureness. Anyway, first about the screen, I found the screen size huge. Much bigger than XZ2 or XZP. Colours are as good as XZ2 as expected.

The camera though is just amazing. Not that it's noise free or anything. I am talking about night shots with lights. The colour performance is just impressive, as long as you do not pixel pip.

No worries.

anyways, posting this link from the rumours thread

http://m.eprice.com.tw/mobile[....]ony-xperia-xz2-premium-review/

it has a comparison of the dual vs single setup, dual being the Ultra high sensitivity mode: On (left side) and single being the Ultra high sensitivity mode: off (right side). The images are full size btw.

The iso 50 single lens setup is also using the longest shutter speed, 1s. if you compare the first dual vs single, iso 200, then the dual setup is better, more sharper and less noise and of course a bit brighter.

Jumping to iso1600, dual setup brigher and less noise, so this dual cam method is working. ISO 12800, the last where single lens can take a photo, single cam is garbage, but the dual cam has some issues as well but is sharper for sure.

Interesting enough at iso 25600, the exp drops to 1/2s and at 51200, even further to 1/10s. Wonder if you could do 1/2s or even 1s at those isos, probably not if the high sensitivity mode is automatically selecting the ss.
