Bro, the evidence is clear. XZ2 is taking good images and video but not better than the S9+ which is a fact and its surprising that the video stabilisation isn't so good now because it has always been great with the EIS. In a spur of the moment situation you need to whip the phone out and take a photo or video without faffing about in manual mode and the quality should be great. It's not feasible to carry a tripod or fooking floodlights everywhere.

We can talk about design all day but everyone seems to do slimmer and sleeker phones with similar hardware so it seems like designers aren't so good at Sony. Is that not reasonable? The XZ1 Compact is the perfect size and design, it's genuinely compact. It just needed more screen and not even 1080p judging by the battery results of the XZ2 Compact. I get full 2 days and more on heavy usage and Bluetooth etc. and it beautifully fits in my pocket plus it looks great even if a little bit fat.

Everything I said was reasonable, show me some evidence that I'm wrong. Also, I've not purchased a phone from anyone other than Sony since the Xperia P came out.

^ Agreed, I want a phone that can make a great photo in any situation, anytime. And you cannot achieve that with Sony at all. Auto mode is terrible.

LOL, the tested phones are not even the flagships of the respective companies (except for the iphone X).

If Sony truly has been working on the dual camera module for over a year now, then it seems to me that what they have in the XZ2 now is just "good enough" to release as something "new". It's not like they can release the XZ2 and say "well, this camera is just a slight modification off our old ones.. nothing new". Of course, as a company, they need to hype it up like it's the best thing out there. That's just business sense and marketing.

I'm looking forward to the dual camera setup to see if it can really deliver on the supposed "nightvision" capabilities.

as for fitting more in a slimmer design, I think sony can do it if they want to. they were the pioneers of fitting things into tight spaces. The VAIO laptops had the slimmest and lightest models while having powerful features. I think this ambient flow design language won't last. Much like the loop design (which I think is nicer), it'll probably only be around a year or so.

I also agree with others that a camera phone in 2018 should be able to take a quality photo at any time in any situation without having to mess with manual. The AUTO mode should just work 95% of the time while manual gives you the flexibility to cover the last 5% and artistic discretion. Hopefully this will be the case with the new dual camera module.

that comparison makes a lot of good points. while the 1080p on the sony is better for detail, samsung's implementation is more complete. not only does it let you take the super slo-mo but it gives more options and features to really use it. automatic capture is a great idea, though it is of course limited to certain situations. having the video editing and enabling focus in the slomo mode are things sony should have provided the first time around and definitely the 2nd time around.

that being said, sony's colors are more natural. otherwise they're basically the same thing on a bright sunny day.

Galaxy S9 vs. Xperia XZ2 shootout

TL;DR: They are neck and neck

Samsung: Less noise, easier software for slow-mo, OIS for better low-light when handheld, 4K/60FPS
Sony: More details but with more noise, can take better low-light photos on tripod mode, 4K HDR

Just finished that GSM Arena comparison, I agree with their conclusion. Sony did a good job with last years camera tech, but it can only go so far and it has obvious limitations.

With the S9/S9+ Samsung has already launched their new camera tech for the year. Gotta wait for Sony's new tech to see how it competes.
