Can someone confirm, is the XZ2 premium using the same primary camera sensor from the XZ2? Not the black and white sensor, just the normal one.

Curious because if it is the same sensor I wonder if the next Gen will use an improved sensor.

Sweet. I had thought I read that, but wasn't 100% sure.

Considering it's a 2 year old sensor that they're using that's quite good. I wonder what improvements the next gen of sensors will bring.

Hi guys,

I'm new here.

Regarding the XZ2P's sensor, AFAIK the sensor itself is the same, but some other things are different:
- According to Sony it's a redesigned 7 piece Lens G with f/1.8 aperture vs f/2 on the XZ2 or any other Xperia using the IMX400.
- The SD845 has new processing capabilities that Qualcomm developed together with Sony.

Here's an interesting thought: the monochromatic camera doesn't have stacked memory. This feature enables super slow motion, predictive capture and continuous focus burst. So in these situations the monochromatic camera won't be able to keep up with polychromatic camera.

Upper camera is the monochrome. There is a 12.2MP ( 1/2.3" , 7.81mm, 1.55 micron).
Behind lenses of 25mm and f 1.6.
Sensor like Spek said is a variant of imx380.
It has same specs of the sensor used by Pixel 2016.

Lower camera is the Motion Eye.

Someone somewhere ( DPREVIW I guess) explained that a monochrome can catch 2x or 3x more light compared to the RGB of same size.
So it is like having 3 or 4 rgb doing the job in the dark.

The link posted by @blackzeros shows XZ2P taking a pic in almost total dark, not using the flash.
I just did a test here, mine at ISO 12800 cant show my bed if I record a video nor taking pic without flash ON.

If XZ2P had flash ON, pic would be much better.
Everything on the wall was very easy to read.

Not even P20 Pro can do that with 4s shutter of Night Mode.

Thanks Capt. Obvious . I already said back in a while the monochrome sensor doesnt have stacked memory. However it will got one and super-slowmo data fusion is a thing in the future...Maybe not XZ3 but slightly later....

Sony published this info during the MWC...

Still, it's interesting how these two cameras will work together.

Long-term XZ2 review. GSMArena thinks it's a good phone, but not without its cons. No big complaints, just small ones. He's impressed with its performance, battery, display, UX, and maybe its camera.

But to be honest, I'm impressed with the phone's features other than its audio performance. I don't know, it sounds like my old Z3 has better audio quality both with built-in speakers and earphones. Or what if there's something wrong with my XZ2?

Even XZP is much faster than pixel Xl2 and yet they have the nerve to call XZ2 almost as smooth as original pixel. Google must be donating a lot to tech sites.
It's been a while since I took any of tech reviewers seriously.

^ Yup, Even XZP is faster than every phone that came in 2017. Xperia XZ2 slaughters its competition as of now. GSMArena is at its sane (as of now), not as s*** as before.
