My family knows Sony makes cellphones because I use one.
Except PS, none of their stuff has advertisement on TV.
The worse part of it is the fact Sony has a TV channel.
But does not promote their stuff on this channel.
I see S9+ propaganda at least 10 times daily on Sony Channel..
Sony Channel here is where ppl can watch Women Tennis, Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, How to get away with murder, Daredevil ( of netflix) , Teen Wolf, How I met your mother, The Voice, American Idol, America's Got Talent, Young and Hungry and Shark Tank. |

They put it in James Bond, Spider Man and upcoming theatre The Equalizer 2
It good as you can get, for such a tiny promotional/product placement budget.
I used to complaint about it for years, was around Z-Z2 at that time.
As they have AXN, Sony Channel but Sony Entertainment
maybe not in the same umbrella with electronics division
hard to talk between cross cultural maybe?

Many times Sony has contests that they give stuff as prize.
Xperia Lounge.
Everytime I try to participate, it says experience is not available.
Mine was even Gold because I have ex-flagship.
Anyone been through this?

XZ2 was recently certified to be sold here.
Sony does not have it available yet, but some stores brought from outside the country the 4GB version/single sim.
Price is equivalent to $1360.
Zackbuks posted on weibo that the 2016 devices wont have Android 9.
Same for XA1 trinity.
All 2018 devices will have, except L2.

The XZ will set new standard with full 2 years consecutive security updates by Nov'18
plus two major updates of Nougat/Oreo each has arrive before year end.
I would be little bit shame, to ask for extending supports
but but but XZs has same platform.... oh damn then I will try my hardest not to jealous

Not XZ, but X Performance. It lives on XZ and XZs, maybe the longest support Xperia ever...4 years??
I heard rumors SoMC wants to kill it but found no reason...

Spek, folks I have highly respect to you but I just can't agree on this one
King Google has promise that Pixel devices will enjoy
full 2 years OS stable supports and 3 years for security patch.
I think, vendor that can offers 4 years software supports
maybe only Apple will make the cut and it set standard of it own
or actually, they made it with iPhone 4s which has five major updates.
although, those device maybe too aged and too slow to handle new OS anyway.

Google have the position to push HW vendors support for its products. Not Sony
One prime example is Nexus 6P, it has Oreo and other OEM, including Sony, EOL'ed it...And Google Glass, its SoC maker TI must worked their ass up to support it even TI already scrapped it SoC department months before.
Sony not only relies on Google but also SoC chipmaker and some vendors (like WiFi/Bluetooth and sensors, eg. light sensor,...)
ZL/ZQ only supported for like almost 3 years, nope.

It could be hard as Sony may update some devices straight to Android P and with P they'll have to add Treble support, what I don't see them doing for any other device than XZ Premium. |

With Android Enterprise Recommended more devices than just Pixels will get 3 years of support.
By joining Sony promised 3 years (of security updates) for Sony Xperia XZ1, Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact, Sony Xperia XZ Premium, Sony Xperia XA2 and Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra.

Regular consumer get 2 years of OS and security updates, while Enterprise cert device is on different track.
Not sure how you could compare them?

With project treble in mind, yet again vendor require to do device re-partition drive
which is higher risking to brick customer device in-between the process of update over the air.
Treble is much easier to handle from vendors when rolling fresh out of production line.
