Active Steady Shot stabilization is still limited to 1080p@30fps videos.
so confirmed that sony's digital stabilization doesn't even work for photos? |

EIS has never been used for photos.
The older phones had for SCN an option " anti-shaking" as scene.
Never works really.
4K has regular SS.
Full HD 30fps has Intellingent SS ( must be 5 axis ) |

This is exactly why I want OIS =...=
a hybrid would be great.

Does XZ2 have a new camera?
From an insider™️ on Weibo who was just back from the launch event of XZ2 in Hong Kong, translated:
...(camera features on XZ2 which we have already known)...
In addition to these, Xperia XZ2 uses a brand new lens module, greatly improving the performance of capturing still images.

Just saw this on weibo. I don't know the credibility of this information. The "lens module" could also mean the camera module with its sensor. It's a bit vague though.

It uses the same sensor as last years phones. |

Yeah probably he only means the post-processing unit is new. But he was just back from the Hong Kong event so he might know a bit more. Could the lens be new?
Anyway, I am happy with a better camera no matter what has been changed. |

Same sensor but different lens module or not, the difference in image quality is visible, but that only makes it more difficult to say what part of that improvement is due to the lens or the algorithm. |

Also a rumor about compact models from the same persion (https://m.weibo.cn/status/4217458304604215), translated:
There's only one Compact per year. XZ2 Compact should be the last one with the same CPU as the flagship which has a small screen. Now it's hard to say which model from either half of the year is the focus.
(In reply to:) Isn't the second half of the year is the focus of Sony in general? Will there be new model in October this year? I want to buy a new phone. Should I wait for the second half of the year or buy xz2c now?
He also said that the next compact models will use mid-range CPU in the comments. |

Had a work day with the XZ2 Compact to compare with my XZ1 Compact. Good device but some bad design issues. The FPS is too low, its more noticeable because the phone is small. I found it very uncomfortable. Its ugly apart from the front, its ergonomic and fits the palm nicely but it looks like a poo particularly the material. The XZ1 Compact in black is sleek, professional and has a monolithic look despite being a fatty. Overall performance and stuff is great otherwise but it just looks horrible that I would never buy. My XZ1 Compact has its issues but I'm it looks great and that's important considering the amount of money you pay for such a device.
I've been told that the XZ2 Premium that was supposed to be at MWC would follow the same ambient flow, not sure if things will change much now. I don't know how you would make it look more high end, XZP had a mirror finish but they'll have to think of something else. It is ready enough to come in Summer but I suggest they improve it and bring it to IFA. I really hope they drop ambient flow. |

I know ehh ?!
I hope IFA 2019 flagship will have a better FPS position =0= because I might replace my phone that time.

Sensor hasn't changed, Sony said it's a carry over from the XZ1, whether anything else is carried over who knows, doubt Sony would invest money into the module.
https://www.gsmarena.com/sony[....]_xz2_compact-review-1731p4.php
. Sony is actually pretty open about the carry-over, even going as far as to admit that its custom stacked RAM buffer solution for the camera sensor is identical. |
