Not sure where all this 'Pro' talk came from.

There will only be two new phones launched - Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact. Fact.

What I find strange is the fact that Sony haven't even teased us with anything yet, normally there's some kind of cryptic trailer or at least a hint at what to expect but we've had absolutely nothing.

If I recall similar situation last year, I checked the previous rumours thread for teasers and all I found is this

https://www.esato.com/board/ui/65Z890Bw5oTZ6R94Q7QQ.jpg

Sony also sent out MWC invites last year
http://www.xperiablog.net/201[....]ile-mwc-2017-press-conference/

I am sure they did this year but i can't find any leaked photos of the invites personally. I am sure it is out there.

The only mention of their press conference I found on personally was on a polish xperia site. Doing a reverse image search does yield the invite on several other sites.

Basically it says, we invite you to come and see the new innovations of Sony mobile. We'll see you at MWC 2018, Monday, Feb 26 at 8:30, entrance 8:15, Sony Booth, Hall 3, Fira Fran Via, Barcelona.

This is the rules for FCC fillings, via the change in filling name submission,

https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/47/2.933

§ 2.933 Change in identification of equipment.

(a) A new application for certification shall be filed whenever there is a change in the FCC Identifier for the equipment with or without a change in design, circuitry or construction. However, a change in the model/type number or trade name performed in accordance with the provisions in § 2.924 of this chapter is not considered to be a change in identification and does not require additional authorization.

(b) An application filed pursuant to paragraph (a) of this section where no change in design, circuitry or construction is involved, need not be accompanied by a resubmission of equipment or measurement or test data customarily required with a new application, unless specifically requested. In lieu thereof, the applicant shall attach a statement setting out:

(1) The original identification used on the equipment prior to the change in identification.

(2) The date of the original grant of the equipment authorization.

(3) How the equipment bearing the modified identification differs from the original equipment.

(4) Whether the original test results continue to be representative of and applicable to the equipment bearing the changed identification.

(5) The photographs required by § 2.1033(b)(7) or (c)(12) showing the exterior appearance of the equipment, including the operating controls available to the user and the identification label. Photographs of the construction, the component placement on the chassis, and the chassis assembly are not required to be submitted unless specifically requested.

(c) If the change in the FCC Identifier also involves a change in design or circuitry which falls outside the purview of a permissive change described in § 2.1043, a complete application shall be filed pursuant to § 2.911.

So with Sony removing the filling, it means the design, circuitry or construction has changed. So this could be anything basically. lol.

According to last year's MWC invite, I think it tell us color of XZ Premium (Luminous Chrome) and its loop theme.
Wondering what is this year invite telling us. Maybe water drops theme like XA2/XA2 Ultra, new color and ... new screen ratio (imply by picture ratio) ?

EDIT: just cropped the picture and scaled it... the ratio is perfect 21:9... seriously?!

Cant you just leave ADIDA alone at last? Its almost like a witch hunt. As much as he may sometimes err when it comes to his "inside" infos, he never insults anybody, contrary to some others here......

Here's the English version of the invitation

I think the picture used in the invitation is one of the wallpapers in the flagship model. I'm expecting something big here, but I'm afraid that I'll be disappointed when they announced it. See this MWC 2017 invitation of XZP's wallpaper.

I have to get this out of my system, though: They called themselves innovative, but this year, they used basically the very same words as last year's MWC 2017 invitation.

I do hope Sony will up their game this time. Since Xperia Z they have been cutting down their RnD and marketing for mobile year after year. I hope they can take more risk this year.

Is that based on any specific insider info?

If the FCC is like any other regulatory certification, it could be as something as simple as changing the name. Or maybe you're right. Perhaps ear phone jack. Or change of radio's. Or no telling what else.

Resubmission could mean any of these "change in design, circuitry or construction". So unless blackzeros knows something, the design change could be anything.

One thing confirmed here is nothing externally changed, and 3.5 headphone jack is still gone.

Not a surprise. If 3.5mm is missing it, re-engineering the device to add one in would have involved a lot more time and I doubt a new fcc filling would have been done so quickly.

I guess a MWC reveal is still likely then?
