@Badassmam
I'm also looking forward to seeing curved sensors and quantum film sensors get commercialized. Hopefully it won't be long. |

Rumors can be very different, but we will react not to rumors, but to actions. Of course, we are thinking about the next step in the competition, and we will have a response to the "arms race" in smartphone technologies.
But this is confidential information, I do not have the right to share it. All I can say is that we are investing money in OLED displays. And very soon you will see 4K-OLED-matrices in mobile devices, which until now did not exist.
Flexible smartphones that are suitable for daily use are much farther from mass production than it might seem at first glance. I know this because we are also interested in this kind of technique. But the next step is 4K OLED, and you will not be disappointed.

"It’s not about the smartphones of today; it’s more about looking beyond smartphones – at what are we going to be doing – and to be a player in this space; ideally to be a leader. For that strategic reason, I want to make sure we stay, not in the smartphone business, per se, but in the communications business."-Kaz Hirai, CEO, Sony
Looks like a strategy shift. Not trying to compete in the smartphone business anymore but instead play a major role in what's coming after this technological era. |

A while ago I posted that Sony Mobile had deeper pockets that before for R&D for new technologies that will start to appear in future smartphones and looks like this is definitely the case with the statement quoted above.
I've also said this year is the year that Sony will turn heads and they've kind of done that already at CES with the new XA range and expect MWC to be a start of a new chapter for Sony Mobile.

JDI have developed their own OLED before albeit a while ago. Could we see an in house OLED display from Sony rather than relying on another supplier?
This would kind of make sense as we know very little about it and things built in house have much tighter controls when it comes to leaks in the media and as we now know Sony have invested in OLED development so they don't need a 3rd party to depend on parts.

I would like to see one lens only.
But with optical zoom and ability to change focal length.

Unless, Sony can pull rabbit out of the hat, which is truly secret project somewhere happening in Minato-ku.
I personally not believe that we going to see 4K OLED in smartphone, not before 2020.
JDI has only prototype of these things for years but insufficient fund to build their own OLED plant
and make matter more fishy, in last December, Sharp (Foxconn) says they interested to join force.
JDI, has know-how Foxconn has money join force to fight against Korean Duopoly
