To be honest, why do gsmarena do such kind of review? Do people on social media actually pixel peep? For me, if it does not effect the overall quality of the photo, why bother at all? I smell a dark propaganda..

Because this is the only real way to determine the sensor quality. People on social media might not pixel peep, but is the only purpose of camera in a phone to post pictures on social media? I don't think so.

In today's world 4K monitors are more and more popular, this means that these monitors are practically pixel peeking, as they are showing the picture in 8MP mode.

I've compared ISO of the low light church photo, LG and Samsung did ISO250 at 1/33. Sony used ISO800 at 1/50. It is the time for Sony to finally acknowledge OIS and implement it in their phones...

Some were saying in the comments that Camera B (XZ Premium) shouldn't have even bothered to enter the competition, due to the incredibly poor images it produced the internet is cruel.

With all the hype created around its camera in this thread I was waiting to be amazed by its performance, what a shame, it's just another below average effort.

I guess that'sā€‹ it for the XZ Premium, let's hope Sony actually put some effort in the product they bring at IFA.

Cheers

WOW sold out in 16 minutes! Hope I will be able to get my Chrome ~~

BTW, if the photo taken by Galaxy S8 was using a Sony sensor, imagine what Sony can achieve if they come up with their upgraded camera software!

I believe GSMArena's Samsung units are usually European units and those use Exynos and so should be using the Samsung ISOCELL sensor. I could be wrong, but from personal experience each time in recent times when a Samsung comes with the in-house SoC it usually comes with the in-house Sensor to.

^it uses a Sony sensor. I see some similarity on how the way the image were handled.

Anyways, I am still going to buy XZ Premium. Yes, low-light photos have a lot of noise but the color and saturation are top notch. And I can always use the manual-mode if I want a cleaner shot. Or a tripod perhaps.

At least now, Sony has fixed most of the issues that are plaguing their flagship cameras. I hope when XZ Premium succesor comes out, it will finally have 3-axis image stabilisation. I remember Sony said couple of years ago that it will take couple of years before the OIS start to appear on their flagship phones. I hope that tike is next year. And maybe, 1080p slow-motion.

@xj your roxfit hard case came already? I thought it was still marked as coming soon on their website?

I'd like to see what dxo says about the camera. Or dpreview.. websites that are much more comprehensive with their camera tests. I don't think xzp will.be #1 cause of low light perf due to lack of ois but it's still produces fantastic shots most of the time and I'm sure manual mode can give much clearer shots. Besides.. the video features blow any other flagship out of the water..

I can settle for slightly less detail and more noise in low light shots

Thought Sony made some progress but it seems they have not. Until Sony adds OIS, I will hold off on buying any new phones.

XJ - nice. I just realized roxfit has a USA dedicated site. Though it's probably still coming from the UK. I'm curious how your case handles the screen protector.. will it push it off constantly? Please give your impressions when you can put them on your xzp.

From the look of the case on the roxfit site..it might be perfectly cut to match so there's no pushing of the screen protector off. Plus the fact that it's a hard case .. I may have to order them so I'll have it ready for my xzp on 2 weeks

Btw, doesn anyone know why XZP is heavier than Z5P?

XZP is 195g while Z5P is 180g.
Size-wise, XZP is slightly bigger but thinner too. XZP has less battery.

I'm not sure how 15g difference actually feel.

^It's likely to be structural so the frame or chassis will be stronger.

It's funny how gsmarena try to downgrade Sony phone when most of the people praise it. This is how they made the Sony phone look bad.
1. Why did they didn't show the full size image in the 1st place?
2. Why the zoom look all the same on all 3 phones? Sony has the widest camera angle and if it were cropped at 100% the size of the cropped pictures wouldn't look the same on all 3. If samesung has the same wide angle as Sony it would look like shit too when zoom too much. It's ridiculous that they don't show 100 % crop on all 3. Gsmarena.com never stop being a Samsung fanboy. They're worried that Sony would sell millions and would hurt samdung sells that's why they pull this shit.
@tsezp why this samdung troll still here?
The full size images in daylight looks the best on Sony. I don't get the reason for pixel peeping
