Update from anonymous source(the same that told us about GG5 on both sides and gave info on XZp)

One other thing, the XZ Premium has seen massive amount of intrest and Sony expect pre-orders to be the strongest to date when pre-orders officially open in early May))
Could you tell me what are GG5 and XR5? |

josephnero, thank you for clarification
So nexy year model means Xperia XZ1 Premium maybe?
I'm a bid confused here.
Archdragoon mentioned the new xperia at IFA this year (XZ1?) will be very different from XZP. |

Sony isn’t that interested in phones anymore, looks to VR
The good news: Sony President Kazuo Hirai thinks that smartphones are still a viable business. The bad news: it really doesn’t care that much anymore.

Some say that the difference between XZP and the new one at IFA is like day and night and that next year there will be a major design change. All we know is the XZP has only 3 months remaining .
I guess at the latest we'll find out at IFA, if it will be this year or next. It could also be planned for this year, but Sony could change it, maybe due to XZP being available late or due to some other things happening in the background (theoretically even after the announcement ("design and specifications are subject to change without notice")). But regardless, thanks a lot @Archdragoon.
@josephnero: From what you could gather, will it be rather MWC or IFA 2018?

It's probably wise that they're not going for growth and keeping the smartphone division on an even keel by picking their battles and focusing on the regions that are most likely to give them a return.
A small and lean operation is way better than bleeding money trying to get into the top five, which could only be achieved if it could beat the Chinese OEMs on their own turf.

It would be mental from Sony not to introduce XZ1 Premium @ next MWC since the XZ premium has raised such strong interest. |

Update from anonymous source:
Sony will be at IFA this year but not to replace the new Premium although unconfirmed a new XZ and a flagship compact are expected with only a small design tweaks and the new design will debut at MWC2018. The XZ Premium will have a long shelf life just like the original Premium so anyone expecting it to vanish after a few months is very wrong indeed. |

The longer shelf life for the Premium is understandable, heck I even welcome the 1 (true) flagship per year rate.
Can you please ask your source about what are the chances for XZ1 Premium being introduced at MWC '18?

Of course man, I understand. Whatever answer you get, you can estimate an XR rating so we don't take it for granted this early. Big thanks for the info so far!
