A shame about the Note7, this was bound to happen as OEMs strive to fit more power and functions into smaller packages, Samsung being at the cutting edge of this were bound to hit a wall. At least they now know where the limit is.

There is a Silver Lining, they have learnt where their limit is, and just how badly a faulty design can become a huge PR disaster, so going forward they will implement those learnings, also, they are going to focus on making the S8 and S8 Edge truly worthwhile and further improving the already great S7 and S7 Edge for the holiday season.

The S8 will just a small upgrade over the S7 just like from S6 to S7.

Samsung Phones are very overated with their crap panels, when move Samsung from AM oled panels to far more better IPS panels, those have much more natural colors reproduction.

Let alone other things.

I don't think I agree with the limit suggestion...isn't Note 7 basically a S7 Edge with pen? Why isn't the battery of S7 edge exploding then ? This looks to me like a faulty manufacturing process and it us crazy they are still not aware about what was wrong

Anyway after we had 2 years ago phones reaching 6 inches now we don't even have 5'7 ones anymore (Nexus 6p but not easily available). Shame as I really liked Note. Now rumours are because if this all Note series will be canned which while understandable is really sad for me (i was one if the first to use Note ) Let's hope they will bring a nice replacement next year ...with s pen

@miss uk

I have 6s plus at the moment and am being tempted by 7 plus. But....I am having real problems getting used with the idea of the lack of earphones jack

That is nothing to "cheers" about. The ONLY reason Samsung is doing this, is simply to speed up the process to:
a) Avoid legal charges from governing bodies
b) Avoid users from keeping their Note 7 (that they think has no issues), and then end up getting burned and leading to another news embarrasing issue or worse a specific lawsuit, although meaningfully in this potential aspect frivilous, would still capture negative consumer imagination that lasts years.

Why would you want to risk more bad publicity and lawsuits? I think this is the right way for Samsung.
Apple would probably never acknowledge or take full responsibility if anything like this were to happen. They would blame the users and probably charge the users instead for causing bad publicity.

...and if Samsung dint do this people will crib that they didn't do anything . I consider it a great gesture.

Meanwhile, Samsung's chief Koh Dong-jin came in front of the Korean press, bowed down to them and apologized to consumers for any troubles the issues with the phone might have caused them.

Samsung Electronics' mobile chief vowed to find the exact cause of the defective Galaxy Note 7 units, so the company won't make the same mistake again. He also promised to do everything in his power “to restore trust of consumers so that they can use Samsung products without any safety concerns.”

Lol, nobody crowned the XZ anything, with phones like the S7 Edge, OnePlus 3, LG V20 and iPhone 7 Plus out, the XZ is just another average effort from a dying OEM.

A S7 Edge with SPen, 64GB internal, and USB Type-C, I guess it's down to you what you prioritize but part of the attraction to Note7 for me was the 64GB internat standard as I have finished the 32GB in my Note 4 and getting closer to finishing the 128GB MicroSD, I barely use cloud storage.

What is up with that trend of phones maxing out at 5.5inch these days!??? Huawei and LG are part of the few that make +5.5inch flagships, Huawei Mate 9 is nearly here by the way, may be something from what I have read.

The Note range has spoilt us with 5.7inch displays in compact bodies even vs. some 5.5inch phones out there.

I'm a nice guy by nature, so when I see how everyone (even Sony fans) ignore hello1000's nonsensical ramblings, I can't help but feel sorry for him, he is crying for attention.

I will ignore him from now on his posts are very entertaining though, its like his in a whole other reality.

FALSE: Apple is already doing their investigation with just 2, count them 2 reports ... not over 15 and huge media coverage. Therein likes the difference ... when it comes to faulty products (Apple G4 Cube acrylic build issues) Apple is mum, but when it comes to consumer safety they don't play around.

Samsung "vowes" ... yea I recall Sony saying the same thing with user's credit cards and privacy when they where hacked too not too long ago. Their executive staff also bowed, forcefully in public BEFORE getting anythign done ... 3 times the embarrassment. I don't see ANYTHING different from a bloated family run Samsung who HID knowledge of this battery issue to protect sales of their own battery division
