1. Spontaneous and continuous camera tracking is nice but I see this as a software implementation that i'll be looking on XDA Developers to hijack and make available.

Samsung 820 cpu yeah an improvement yet not so significant in terms of battery life or overheating which Sony did do a REAL WORLD job on the Xperia Z5 lineup. 13MP Front Selfie camera - I'm no model so this is of NO CONCERN to me. If I've got problem skin no better camera is going to fix it just highlights how much worse it'll look. No thanks lol

To be honest I see BETTER show from Sony in terms of their new headset Sony Ear. Their taking the "Google" out of Google's "Ok Google". A more natural way to interact with your phone. Take heed competitors ... Sony is embarking not on IoT here, a buzz word that has yet to rake in ANY REAL profits/revenue for any corporation but in making AI more friendly, usable and socially interactive. If neither of you watched that video you MUST!

THINK:
Get in your car in the morning with your smartphone, start the car ... you're greeted by name. The phone announces it's already pulled up the pre-cached route to work and asks if this is your destination. You say "Yes, but I'd like to pickup my girlfriend on the way" and a new route with updated traffic/road conditions is loaded along with your favorite hot-chick-swoon tracks Now she jumps in gives you a kiss - the phones auto pair yet with cameras seeing the kiss emit a smooth soft yet blissful sound you've both pre-selected/pre-agreed upon (noice touch). The phone in your car has been updated with her pre-selected destination and asks to confirm (finding best routes). This is subtle but it's VERY significant use of AI and connectivity.

Thus far MWC 2016 is a complete TOSS OFF thus far! Samsung won the smartphone race this year. You're going to see HUGE sales from this - if Sony doesn't get their marketing crap and launch dates together. I'm PISSED OFF no Compact 4.6" LCD smartphone announced with Snapdragon 820 CPU.

If I upgrade I'll be getting the cheaper grey market price deal on the Z5 Premium and Z5 Compact.

The official answer is that Sony cameras are optimized for "performance." Performance meaning how photos and videos from the camera look great both on the phone's screen and on a computer screen. The selfie camera, in particular, has been tuned to view on large screens.

Sony stop making excuses for yourselves ... hire expert algorhythm writers and professional world renowned photographers to work on contract with bonus incentive to create better quality camera software !!! If this was in the days of God of War you'd all be gutted like fish!

Finally, we got a chance to ask questions about the 4K screen on the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium. Sony is happy with how it performs and says it gets the job done for people who need 4K resolution. There are no plans to add 4K support to more of the Z5 Premium interface and app package.

Is it confirmed that the Xperia X Performance will be released in June?
On their homepage it doesn't say anything. Sony usually write expected release month.

Most likely.
mobile site MobileSyrup (Canadian based) states that ALL Xperia X lineup WILL come to Canada this summer - carrier announcements with specific pricing to be confirmed but Sony staff in a statement directly to that site confirmed they are ALL coming!

I guess no one among us Esato users is getting an Xperia X Performance?
Personally, I am tempted just for the sake of being different. Once the Note 6 is released, that phone will be my main.
Sony please tell your engineers and software programmers to hurry the F up. April would have been fully acceptable.

Well kind of difficult to buy something when it comes out in the summer with unknown or varying availability, at least here in Europe.

Oh, there's one to download. Didn't see that. Thanks! That made me disappointed indeed.
As I have always suspected, this is most likely just something to fill in the gap while preparing for the true flagship at IFA.

I am not sure it is the final white paper, they do get updated. The issue is this, there are videos on youtube claiming to be from the x performance shooting 4k video, something missing on the white paper, press release and sony's website. There is also conflicting information regarding IP68 certification, again missing from the press release and Sony's website and finally the white paper.

I know various websites have specs listing IP68 but I am not sure it is confirmed yet, even on Sony's various twitter accounts there is conflicting tweets.

No doubt the sensor and sd820 is more than capable of shooting 4k.

Still this video shows no 4k

To me the possible scenario is that the "Sony" representative thought it was an Xperia Performance which I am pretty sure it wasn't. People who are working on events like this are usually hired from a third party company.
The Xperia X Performance has brushed metal, and I have no reason to believe Sony would have two different choices of metal on the very same model. Colours yes but not metal. I don't think Erica tried to misinform us. She was just misinformed herself.

Well clearly in her video the device she is using is the x performance, the cpu is the msm8996 = sd820, you can see the SoC near the end of the video.

she has another video comparing the x to x perf

Clearly I was wrong yet again.
I didn't watch to the very end because I was sure about my theory.

There still might be hope, the devices are still not coming out for another 4 months, perhaps by then the X performance will magically receive a camera update that features 4k.

You may not be wrong on your theory there ... depends on your you look at the FACTS going on at Sony.

News Media: http://www.engadget.com/2016/[....]ny-earnings-financials-q3-2015
PlayStation sells well (again), but mobile is hurting Sony
Firstly, mobile: Sales decreased 14.7 percent compared to the same period last year — Sony says this is borne out from it's decision not to pursue scale in mobile phones for profitability, and why operating income improved significantly for the section. A significant decrease in image sensor sales is where Sony felt the bite most this quarter. Camera sensor sales to other smartphone manufacturers dropped by 12.6 percent year on year. This resulted in a quarterly loss of $97 million, compared to a profit of $445 million the period before.

FACTS by Sony directly on Mobile Division ...

From the Q3 FY 2015 Consolidated Finanacial Results webcase held by
Executive Deputy President and CFO, Representative Corporate Executive Officer Kenichiro Yoshida
URL: http://www.irwebcasting.com/2[....]95d76e9f3c/mov/main/index.html

From the Q3 FY 2015 Consolidated Finanacial Results webcase held by Executive Deputy President and CFO, Representative Corporate Executive Officer Kenichiro Yoshida

Q3 FY2015 (year-on-year)
Sales: 14.7% decrease (FX Impact: -2%)
- Significant decrease in smartphone unit sles resulting form a strategic decision not to pursue scale in order to improve profitability

OI: 13.8 Bln yen increase (FY Impact: 18.8 bln yen)
- Improvement in product mix reflecting a shift to high value-added models (Think Z5/Z5C/Z5P)
- Reductions in marketing, R&D and other SG&A expenses
- Decrease in smartphone unit sales
- Negative impact of the appreciation of the U.S. dollar, reflecting the high ratio of U.S. dollar-denominated costs

FY2015 FCT (change from October forecast)
Sales: 50 bln yen downward revision
- Expected decrease in smartphone unit sales.

OI: Remains unchanged from October forecast
- Decrease in sales
- Higher than originally anticipated selling prices of smartphones
- Additional cost reductions.

FYI historical link of ALL financial quarters of Sony business arms (including gaming, medical, mobile etc)
http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/library/er.html

So ... I think Sony is testing the market frugally and smartly here.
1. They expect a decrease in sales going forward this quarter or fiscal year we're already in by 2months. They've implemented additional cost reductions, especially in R&D. Don't expect huge innovations in mobile this year - and not just from Sony but from ALL tech mobile device company's ... Software is the dollar efficiency here for innovation, creation, and marketing at reduced costs. Add to that the higher ratio of the U.S. dollar-denominated costs affecting SALES pricing we're seeing across the board on everything soon even Food will be significantly affected (I'm not joking here this is a FACT)!

Now ... Xperia X/XA/X Performance models have a slight updated camera modul, better refinement with Android Marshmallow, cpu choice same 3GB RAM and screen size (reduction of manufacturing costs), no higher resolutions or newer panels just better backlight (cost reductions yet again and this ads up to decreased handset sales on a global scale BUT increases profits!

The high price is not Sony's fault, nor Samsung of their latest Galaxy lineup announcement ... BUT the economy and stronger U.S. dollar in almost 10yrs in currency exchange which ALWAYS negatively affects the yen even at basis point changes

Sony "may" and most likely will increase R&D, marketing, that'll lead to a 'product mix reflecting a shift to high value-added models'!

Read into this how YOU will but to me this says Sony is intelligently playing it safe here! We'll see what IFA2016 brings.
